How do you deal with fruit flies?
I want to know what is the best vegan way to deal with fruit flies? I do my best to keep all fruit/veggies garbage outside in my compost bin but sometimes my roommates will just throw things in the trash or something might get left out on the counter and it attracts fruit flies. I made a banana trap with no liquids so they wouldn't drown but they just keep coming back :( Any ideas??

Not sure if there's much you can do other than asking your roommates use the fridge and compost bin. One other idea - we used to get them much more when the compost was very close to the house, but after moving it to the other end of the garden we rarely do, so maybe you could try moving yours further away if possible.
On the plus side I don't think the flies actually do any harm do they - they're just a bit pesky.

get a bin with a lid and keep it closed & encourage others to keep it closed.
use up fruit from the bowl before it goes rotten and attracts the blighters - or keep fruit in the fridge.
they are pesky indeed!

You both have great ideas. I guess we will all just need to be a bit more diligent.
