The best vegan, milklike chocolate
I just found the best vegan chocolate ever http://www.gvtc.co.uk/moofree.html
It's awsome! The only disadvantage is the price, it costs £7.99 for 132 g but it's nice to know that there are vegan chocolates which taste good :) or even very, very good :satisfied:

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Dairy free white chocolate buttons :) (found in tesco/sainsburys)
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Can you tell me what brand it is? I don't think I've seen it.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Sainsbury's do dairy free chocolates too! :)
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I managed to fool omnis with Organica's Couverture milk chocolate bars - have you tried them? I think those white buttons are very good too.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I HATE the dairy free buttons in the Sainburys here, if they're the same ones they taste like play-doh.
I like the freefrom chocolate.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I love Sainsbury's free from orange chocolate, my omni friend never realises it's vegan. No one has noticed the difference yet. Tastes identical to terry's chocolate orange I think

It's Humdinger. I always find it useful to know what to look out for.

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Thanks a lot Marrers, I will look for it next time I go to Waitrose or Sainsbury.
I remember in the past I bought one vegan chocolate which I really liked but I threw the packed so I don't remember what it was.

I concur. If you want milk-like chocolate this (or waitrose/sainsbury's own-brand "free from" ricemilk chocolate) is the best one. Tastes like galaxy!
Though I'm a dark chocolate man myself.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I don't mind whether is milk like or dark, as long as it's sweet and tasty. Most of the vegan dark chocolates I bought were disgusting so I stopped buying them. Few were so bad that I had to throw them away because I couldn't eat them.
At the moment when I want something sweet I go to Holland and Barret or Waitrose for marzipan :) but I will try ORGANICA, maybe I will like some chocolate again :)

Where can I get these Marrers? :)

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Big wholefood shops should sell the Organica bars.
The Plamil dairy free alternative to milk chocolate bar is very similar, too. I don't know if they changed the recipe but it's smooth and sweet like the Couverture bar.

Right, I'm off to buy some tomorrow! Galaxy used to be one of my favourite chocolates.

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I agree with Marrers, the Organica Courveture is fantastic - it reminds me of the chocolate used on Maltesers. The Vegan Mars bars that Vegan Store stock are great too and they have started selling Zero Zebra Rice Milk bars which are gorgeous.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I think their white chocolate is nice, although it doesn't taste like white chocolate to me, but tastes more like a caramel bar, I suspect due to the rice syrup which is their main sweetener in there, still very nice, especially if you like very sweet.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Found organica milk-style couverture bars at waitrose in byres rd, retailing at £2.44. Was pretty excited! Unfortunately it means I'll probably buy lots of chocolate now every tine I go to uni. They also had smaller Celtic milk style chocolate bars with rice crackly bits.

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
(I have to admit though I still think moo-free is better. I've been heavily hinting to my boyfriend about getting a moo free Easter egg!!)
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
must say, the organic dark choclate from woolies is 100% vegan and really tasty. It is 100% raw and contains very little sugar (which is also organic). I never eat this - I am eating so much fruit that I never crave chocolate / sweet stuff.
Have you guys ever heard of the chocolate sapote fruit from Australia - it is a chocolate pudding fruit. Apparently it is even better than real milky chocolate.

I wholeheartedly agree! I love this chocolate. I made all sorts of chocolate treats from many, many bars of it at Hallowe'en and Christmas.
It is THE dog's.

I can never imagine fruit stopping my cravings.
I prefer the white chocolate buttons...they are not too sweet, I find the organic ones sickly after one piece. Never good. lol

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
@xwitchymagicx: I could also never have imagined it when I went fruitarian :) all the fruitarians across the world experience the very same:
Salt cravings - mostly cooked food cravings.
I usually crave things like potato / cooked thai flavours
chocolate: never

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Now I know I can buy couverture chocolate in the shops on my way home from uni I've started buying it a lot! I gave some to my vegetarian friend who said it tastes just like galaxy :)

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I really like the Plamill's brand, but I do not know whether they have "milk" chocolate (am not exactly partial to that, need to have my 70 % of cocoa...

Yeah plamil have a 'milklike' chocolate but I don't really like it, I don't tend to like soya chocolates as much as rice milk chocolates. I LOVE plamil chocolate spread though, go through a jar a month just by myself.

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Just to let everyone know, Moo Free have increased their range of chocolates, they now have:
"Milk" chocolate hearts
A 53% Dark Chocolate Bar
A 70% Dark Chocolate Bar
"Milk" chocolate bar with Banana
"Milk" chocolate bar with Cranberrys and Hazelnuts
"Milk" Praline Love Ems
I only found these because I emailed the company to ask if they would consider making a fruit and nut bar like the cadburys one, and they pointed me in the direction of Alot of Chocolate who seem to be the only place that stock them...http://www.alotofchocolate.co.uk/men...ree-chocolates

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Thanks Firestorm - now they just need to get them in more shops! Time to petition H&B perhaps?

I emailed them a couple of hours ago and asked them to start stocking Moo free and Go Max Go bars.
I doubt they'll listen though:rolleyes:
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I emailed them as well ( customerservices@hollandandbarrett.com if anyone else feels like it), Firestorm. Constant dripping, and all that! I might try asking my local shop as well although I guess they can't get it if the wholesaler doesn't carry it.

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I got a quick reply:
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to contact us regarding Moo Free Chocolate.
Customer suggestions are very welcome as we are always looking for potential new lines to introduce.
Your request has been passed to the Buying Department for their consideration.
So if anyone else is interested in having Moo Free chocolate stocked by H&B it might be worth writing, just to let them know the demand is there.

Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
OOOHHH, I've just remembered, last week I tried melting Moo Free chocolate - it tastes even better!!!
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
I think these Moo Free chocolate drops are great - they make a little bit of chocolate go a long way, which is great for those of us trying to eat a bit less of it! Much better than chocolate buttons imo.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Another vote for Moo Free - absolutely delicious chocolate and tastes very authentic! I ate my easter egg early :o and also a box of pralines. Very nice! :D
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Warning for Moo-Free eaters - the new banana bar is not vegan at the moment - the banana contains honey:http://www.facebook.com/moofreechocolates
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
Well spotted, Firestorm.
Personally, after eating a fair amount of it just to check :o , I've decided I prefer dark chocolate to Moo-Free. On the plus side, though, my mother, who usually refuses to eat vegan chocolate, really likes this stuff.
-
Re: The best vegan - milklike - chocolate
The moo free banana bar is now safe to eat, apparently the manufacturer of the banana chips made a mistake. Quote from moo free Facebook page:
"BANANA BARS UPDATE: These bars DO NOT contain honey. Due to a mistake on the banana chip manufacturers allergy specification we have had to temporarily list these bars as containing honey. We have now received confirmation that this is not the case and as a result these bars will be shipping with a "honey free" and vegan friendly ingredients list in the future."

I opened a bar of that last night, its calling to me from the kitchen as I type this. Its divine. Might finish it before midnight!

Re: The best vegan, milklike chocolate
I ordered the cranberry and hazelnut one and those peanut butter cups they've started making yesterday...Go Max Go or whatever the company are called.
I was going to buy the hazelnut one but I shall resist till I'm back home. :p
I don't know why they don't sell the hazelnut and cranberry tbh...and whatever happened to that organica fruit and nut bar???
-
Re: The best vegan, milklike chocolate
Must admit I did order some (of the cranberry one I think) to bulk up my Alternative Stores order. Just hope they've got my washing up liquid in stock too!
-
Re: The best vegan, milklike chocolate
We got moo free chocolate hearts for our wedding, and despite there being loads of vegans there, they didn't really get eaten!!?? Mystery. I don't understand it. I'd say I enjoyed eating the leftovers, but my husband kind of got in there before me and ate the lot!
I think I prefer organica very slightly, but sometimes the bars aren't tempered very well (or easily lose their temper (hehe) in hot weather, perhaps).
-
Re: The best vegan, milklike chocolate
I was given a few squares of the Organica almond and raisin couverture bar the other day and was reminded how good those bars are. Very milk chocolatey.
