Re: Vegan with a Vengence
The Italian Tofu Marinade turned out good for my taste, and I'm usually not a big fan of tofu... but I used soy sauce instead of the suggested tamari/braggs, because I can't buy Braggs here and tamari in something Italian sounds weird. Maybe you'd like it like that, Oliver Oil?
Talking about stupid names, I've got a new neighbour, but haven't met him officially yet (single city aparment house...)...his last Name is Bus, and a few days ago there was a letter for him saying "Mr. George Bus" (no, I didn't make that up) :D

Re: Vegan with a Vengence
I'm really confused about this book. I ordered it off Play.com but it says it isn't out until Feb 2007 and the picture has a different cover. Is it a different version of the book or just the same book with a different cover, because I don't want to wait for it if it's just the same book.

Re: Vegan with a Vengence
i had the exact same problem. i ordered it on amazon.co.uk, and after a while, i checked when it would arrive, and it said "march 18th" - WHAT?! so i just ordered the old one.

Re: Vegan with a Vengence
Huh ?_?
I know there are plans for a new book, but didn't know they've got a publishing date already.
Or maybe the publishing house has just decided to print another edition and it takes this long?

Re: Vegan with a Vengence
I did wonder why I couldn't find it anywhere! :)

Re: Vegan with a Vengence
Someone got us Vegan with a Vengence for Christmas, but we already own it. If anyone is interested I'd take $12 + shipping. :)

Re: Vegan with a Vengence
I'm LOVING this book. Everything I've made from it so far has been fantastic. I made the quinoa and black eyed bean croquettes with mushroom sauce the other night, and it was the nicest way I've ever had quinoa, by far. I'm planning to cook my way through all of it!

Re: Vegan with a Vengence
I'm annoyed because I ordered this book and it was going to take months to come.

Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
Supposedly my copy from Amazon has already been dispatched, Amazon is usually good for me. :)
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
I saw this too on amazon Germany some weeks ago, but seemed like a reprint of the first book ?_? There's no information about a new book on the ppk site either.
PS: Just looked up the info text on Amazon... it IS a reprint.

Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
Is it? So I don't need to buy the old one as well then?
Good, that saves money. lol
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
I just got my copy through today had a flick through can't wait to try it out! but I've also ordered 3 other cook books (yea I went a bit mad the other day, been spending too much lately...) anyway I'm loving the idea of a vegan brunch cafe, but would have nowhere to host it, as York is pretty tiny, although I've got our house to myself for a short while over the easter break :p that would be soooo much fun! when I get my own place I'm definitely doing it!

Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
Has anyone made the raspberry, choc blondie bars yet ? I made these today but they are really gooey almost raw in the middle. I baked them for a lot longer than recommended, and that was with a oven thermometer so know the temperature is right...
They do taste yum though, you just couldn't cut them into bars like I hoped
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
Lol, yes I've made those this afternoon - same problem too, I think I baked them for about an hour and a half all told and still the middle is just goo!! They are absolutely delicious though...I think that they may mak a marvellous pudding served still warm with some swedish glace:)
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
It is probably the jam that makes them gooey...I mean the jam just makes the pastry "wet" if you know what I mean?
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
Someone on PPK recommended maybe baking the bottom layer first for about 10 mins so I will try that next time I think because as you rightly say they are far too nice to not cook again ...
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
That sounds like a good solution doesn't it, must remember to try that next time - thanks!:)

Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
Bought this book. The muffins dont turn out very well. The choc and raspberry cake is lovely, the cupcakes are lovely and i trying the carrot cake sometime this week. Savoury- i have tried the Knish which was lovely and the millet recipe oh and the scrambled tofu but i changed it a little and stuck some tomatoes in and that was great.
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
I made the moroccon tagine thing tonight and it was really nice. I also love the chickpea and spinach curry.
I am trying to make more savoury as I tend to bake more from the cookbooks than I do cook actual meals.
-
Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
Forgot to mention that i had to add an extra 2 oz or so to the chocolate cake as it was far to runny and used self half self raising and half plain flour. Made the carrot cake but havent tried it yet. Used 5oz self raising and 4 1/2 oz of palin flour. Not in a great eating mood but like to be busy so bake more than i ever eat.

Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
i almost fell out of my seat on the tube last night - in the londonpaper (free evening commuter paper) they have a 'fast supper' recipe every night. the recipe last night was....asparagus and sundried tomato frittatta. from vegan with a vengance.
i couldn't quite believe it - but thought it was pretty awesome :) quite often they pick a book and run a 'theme' through the week, so hopefully there'll be some more this week, and they'll get london eating nice, friendly food for a change!

Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
The carrot cake is the best carrot cake i have ever had. Takes a bit of making but it is worth it. I highly recommend it.

This book is worth every penny for the scrabbled tofu recipe alone :)
However all the recipes are available on their website if you are strapped for cash...!

Re: Vegan with a Vengeance
I finally received this and the cup cake one. It has made my week. Last night, I made the white bean soup with roasted garlic which went down really well with my family and today the pasta dish with tapenade, hoping that some tapenade would be left over but they virtually licked the dish out..We have just tried the first vanilla basic cupcake and it came out a bit on the heavy side. Will have to experiment a bit more with that.
Definitely converted to Vegan with a Vengeance for now. I heard that they were working on a BBQ book too which should be good. Anyone know when it's coming out?
