This place doesn't exist anymore. I visted and discovered its turned into "TomToms Bar De Tapas". The menu is mostly meat with a few vegetarian offerings, and pricey too. I got the feeling I was a nuisance by asking for a vegan adaptation and they just had to put up with veg*ns who came expecting The Bean Counter to be there. Not recommended.
I managed to find this place eventually as its now called Café Cilantro. It has slightly different opening times too, which I can't quite remember. It's completely vegetarian and the menu is labelled with what is vegan/vegan option.Quote:

Hello! I'm planning a trip to manchester with my husband (lato-vegi) for a couple of days in june. I was hoping you could reccomend some nice places to eat? Prefrebly quite near the centre as we're staying in a travelodge quite central.
Also has anyone been to greens recently? We want to go somewhere nice as its a special anniversary for us. Otherwise everything else needs to be cheap:)
Anywhere for breakfast too? If not it will be homemade bread and jam.
Thanx for any suggestions!
A reminder of this upcoming event:

Sounds like a fun day out!
I'm going to to go to this. It will be my first visit to a vegan fayre of any type so I am very excited :)
I went to Greens about 6 months ago. I wasn't that impressed really. It was expensive and very noisy; too big so too many people talking all at once. I had the noodle broth which I wasn't keen on but my friends curry was nice. IMO the Greenhouse is much nicer, both the atmosphere and the food. It also has a bigger selection of vegan food.
You could try the Eighth Day on Oxford road for vegan breakfast.
Thanx for the reply maisepaisey. (hope i spelt that right)
I was begining to come to the same conclusion, I looked at the menu for greens but it didnt wow me, (and for that price I want to be wowed) and seemed a little snooty. The greenhouse has had good reviews so we shall eat there. Thanx for the advice for the breakfast too!
Is Greens the one in West Didsbury, pretty much next to the big pub?
That's not very descriptive is it?! I think I know which it is...but I've never been, I remember looking at the prices there and being horrified!!
Manchester vegans - where are you?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (echo into the distance)
After a month of being vegan, I finally met my first Manchester vegan at a friends party - she was a friend of a friend, and we only got a chance to chat for like a minute...):(
There must be more Manchester vegans!!!!!
Yeah....sorry about that Chris.
we pop back up now and again though!
Yup, same here. I fell down the M1 to London.
Yeah I'm from Mancland...but live in London now!
I live in Bolton. It's about 20 minutes away from Manchester. I go there every week to do shopping and to relax.
I hear there is quite a few left. The ones who held on to their return ticket to The Big Smoke, and came back in one piece.Quote:

Oh thank you for those links - I suppose I should have been more proactive and found those!!:o
Last time I went to Bolton I remember seeing the aquarium in the museum there - there was this knifefish which looked so amazing - but its tank was really inadequate and it could barely turn! It was like putting a huge fish in a tiny picture frame.
I'm a Manchester vegan! How are you all?
Quite a few Manchester folk at http://www.veganfitness.net
I'm from Manchester!

My brother lives in Salford. Poor thing.
"Now we're not saying that a small donation will get them out to Alderley Edge or Hale, but just £2 a month can see that they get clean water, sanitation and clothing that isn't Nike or Reebok."
Am I the only vegan who went to Manchester from the south-east?
You proabably are, because why would anyone want to do that ? :p
Nope - I was born in Suffolk and lived in London for ten years until I was 16, followed by Kent for five years. So I am wholly southern! :-)
Do I count as I live close to Manchester (Cheshire - Macclesfield/Wilmslow way)
:)
And I don't know ANYONE I've met in person who is vegan!!!!!!! (I''ll have to partake in the next local meet)
Stef
You count, technically I am from Cheshire, living in Altrincham....has a Warrington postcode, but under a greater manchester council!
I never knew anyone who was vegan round there either!
I was born in Oldham, but grew up in Failsworth in Manchester.
I'm going to the meet for the Manchester Vegan Society on saturday. anyone else coming?
