I cannot honestly say that vegan fare tastes better, but it definitely feels better.
I strive to be as organic as I possibly can, but living and working, it isn't completely possible. I don't skimp to save money though.
If I were an animal that had been slaughtered to feed meateaters, I'd probably feel better knowing my hide was being used by a vegan who actually cares.
For me the real issue is always focused...
Man is the most dangerous animal. It's one of these that's most likely to get you.
we have approximately the same level of NaCl in our fluids as seawater
athletes can have low sodium problems in hot weather leading to low bp
salt tablets are provided to worksites in extreme hot...
I use two large spoonfuls every morning. I mix it with my Mueslix cereal, which is sufficient in fiber and grain so the flax meal is going to get well digested along with the cereal. I just put a lot...
My earliest exposure to vegetarianism was in San Francisco's Haight district. This was in a very positive and creative environment, and was primarily health oriented, with the concern for animal...
Early societies worshipped plants and trees. They would often sacrifice a person to replace the spirit of the grain harvested. While such myth is considered superstitutious today, they would...
If you base your food fare on whole grains like brown rice and legumes, you should be quite alkaline.
The only place I can get good produce is Wild Oats. They sell meat, fish, milk, eggs, etc. Back in Portland it was Natures NW. These places all started vegetarian, all seem to be anti-union, exploit...
You are probably right since some smoked varieties are very firm, but unfortunately, many if not most, are not - these days anyway. I would still just add it at the end. It will become just as hot as...
Breads obtained from specifically natural food sources, do seem to contain very high quality ingredients, much different in taste and texture than commercial whole wheat from the supermarket. One...
I wouldn't advise simmering the smoked tofu for 15 minutes. It is already cooked and would dissolve, making for a murky looking stew.
I use beans for my stews. Smoked tofu is expensive and better...
Linus Pauling responded to this in Vitamin C And The Common Cold. I came away with the understanding that large doses of vitamin c should be taken separately, such as in the morning, before eating. I...
They don't weigh much. Still $12/lb is steep. Hopefully the cost will eventually be easier. From my first try the shitake seemed richer and just feels more nutritious.
It has been more than apparent to me since I worked up a paper on emissions for a college health project that the health consequences of smog are dreaded and not a fair exchange for the conveniences...
Inspired by this thread and other notices about omega 3, I've returned to eating flax/soy bread, and picked up a bag of flax seed meal. The store had it refrigerated and it is very fresh, so I'm...
This is my gripe too. Some rice version I've gotten is tolerable but all the soy types I've tried were absolutely hideous. :( The only really good one was an almond cheese. It tasted clean and was...
I sure would like to do this. They don't hold well in the fridge. Can you get any "special" spores? :D
Never used to take them. Now I'm getting six a day (medical) and also take one V Complete multi-vitamin, and two HiC vitamins. Wish I could just stop the medicines but three of them are amino related...
I've been making Dhal for two decades but never so well. I make it simple, just adding garlic, curry powder, salt, fresh ground pepper, and cayenne. Lots of curry powder. Some olive oil too, and a...
And all this time I though that automobiles were a danger to deer, and other wildlife. Not to forget bicyclists and pedestrians. Oh, and a danger to people too. And damage to the atmosphere. etc.
The ones I'm familiar with are cold sores. The "cold" here is a herpes virus, simplex one if I remember correctly. Just about everyone carries these around and they will pop up on the gum tissue...
I get these crude looking boxes of cut leaf Assam tea from a Mediterranean store. I don't know what it is since it's in Arabic. The store suggested it. Very full flavor black tea. I still like...
This guy makes Professor Arnold Ehret's "Mucousless Diet" seem reasonable.
Actually, strange looking as he was, the Mucousless diet did make more sense. Just didn't go quite far enough!
Even though I don't have the business lunch dilemma, it's happened before where the boss will insist on "us" going out together. They always act as if you are fussy and hard to get on with.
Just...
I first ran into this in college. It's taken me most of my lifetime to actually start to realize it. Still on the caffiene but I've gotten away from the candy, cookies, etc that I used to eat...
Well, this list certainly motivates one to use fresh organic unprocessed foods, if not already doing so. Is it no wonder that processed flour and canned food ruin one's health and vitality? You are...
Chargrilling doesn't reach me at all either. Well done smokehouse tofu might be a different story. Definitely don't want any burger that resembles meat as much as a Boca. I can eat it but the Thai...
My trap is loaded with them. Maybe this is another reason for the damn ringing in my ears. :(
Yeah, that's why I've got the setup at my crib.
I go by one downtown here often. The music in there just plain sucks too.
Besides, the dog would definitely make a scene if I left her alone to...
It is, as they go, unstructured.
My dog is unwalkable so I run her at least five times a week. Or more. Since I work all day, as soon as I get in I'm stretching and gearing up. We run along the...
It is smoke, grease, and salt that gives bacon it's big appeal. The taste of uncured bacon or ham, such as the so-called "fresh ham" is really a hard one, particularly for the real bacon addict, and...
Once long ago after first renouncing meat, I ate eggs. I convinced myself that since they were the seed for more chickens there was no conflict with my meat-free intention. And "Diet For a Small...
I think there is some yeast product in there but not sure. I'm not at home or I would check the box. I will do so when I get home. Well, is yeast animal exploitation anyway? Certainly is an animal in...
Crossing the Pacific once on a cargo ship I relieved the bow lookout at night. My friend Frankie showed me the dolphins riding ahead of our plowing water, getting a ride. This was way out at sea. I...
I'd rather be there but here it's two turkey's, ham, butter, pies, etc. and even though I've been careful not to mention being a herbivore, everyone knows and the hostility is just below the surface....
Sitting in the park one day, prior to canvassing for a recycling campaign, a young fellow eating a ham sandwich on white bread, noticing I only brought almond butter on whole wheat sandwichs to eat,...
Well, only to mean that is the main source. Nuts and seed butters like tahini are a real favorite but shouldn't be the basis of one's protein. Then there is brown rice which wasn't listed but would...
This is surely an interesting and informative discussion. I remember sharing a ski lift at Heavenly Valley once with an agriculturist who stated that frozen vegetables are more nutritious than fresh...
