I just picked up Neal Barnard's "The Get Healthy, Go Vegan Cookbook." I'm really excited as the recipes look really simple and inexpensive. I was just wondering if anyone had also read it or other...
Yup! Co-sign.:lol2:
I'm sort of trying to lose weight. I've put a bit on in the last few years due to medical business and my satiety is really out of whack. It isn't at a point where it's a...
Thank you Leedsveg !
Thanks Barry!
Oh hi! Good to hear there's more than one Victorian in these interwebs!
Went out to a cheap and cheerful Italian place with my brother. Had a big bowl of veggie penne with mushroom, celery, tomato and other goodies. Then we popped over to Kmart and picked up some tasty...
Mate, I don't think fear is a particularly great motivator. Pushing may be a mistake. In my own experience, people pushing and pawing at me to do something - wear X, watch Y, don't eat H, change T -...
Bumping this:
Any Melbourne vegans around these parts? Anyone? Bueller?
It's the great divide in our household (besides meat and whatnot): Cow Ooze vs. Bean Juice!
Aussie Soy Lite. It's really beany (it's not made to taste like cow ooze). I also love Yenson's, but the lack of fortification rules it out for daily use!...
I'm really looking forward to its release in Oz. But I have to say the mention of The Philippines as one of the low level meat-consuming Asian countries made me LOL. Hard.lol A family friend who...
I've just started making porridge with quinoa. It's so quick and easy! I cook it with water, and then just add soy milk afterwards. Delicious.
Hope I don't give anyone a "groundhog day"-esque feeling, but I was just wondering if my 2 tablespoons (actual spoons, not measuring spoons) of this* properly refrigerated flaxseed oil was enough...
Wait, wouldn't failing to meet nutrition requirements result in failure to meet nutritional requirements? I'm not sure if m personally OK with eating less than my body physically needs. Kilojoules...
Hi. Long time no type!
Due to some changes in my medical situation over the last 2 years, I've gained some weight.* I've decided that I want to add to my routine (walking/public transporting...
I went to Vegie Hut for the first time last week. It was great and my omni SO was enthusiastic about the mock meat and veggies on offer. I have no idea where monkey head mushrooms have been all my...
Last week, I ate at a completely vego restaurant for the first time since going vegan. The monkey head mushroom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hericium_erinaceus) I ordered tasted more like chicken...
Update: My levels are fine. My endo said I should consider dropping my intake when summer rolls around. So now I'm just going for a blood test through my GP every 4 months or so.
Indeed. Not to mention they shifted the parameters downward in the late 90's. People who were once "normal" are now "overweight." Previously "overweight" folks are now "obese."
I would like another option:
The BMI is hokum!

This has happened twice to me recently. We bought lemon lime and bitters that turned out to have cochineal in it (it was listed as a number), and we bought the wrong brand of rice crackers by mistake...
Crud, I've done it again!
I wasn't on vit. D before I was informed of my deficiency. In addition to that, my rather straight-laced endo just wasn't a fan of my new-fangled seaweed hippie calcium...
I wasn't taking any before the doctor prescibed them. Turns out that for the last few months, I've taking a tablet too many. I blame his handwriting and my fear of squishy bones!:D
Sorry. I'm bad...
Went to the endocrinologist last week. I was at <10L. Now I'm at 91. Yay! Turns out I was overdoing the pills! I'm down to 2 a day. And I don't have any problems re. processing vitamin D or calcium.
I'm sorry for your loss, CarrieBerry.
I'm far more mindful about what I consume, in a way that goes beyond what I eat or issues relating to animal cruelty.
I've begun monitoring the ingredients in my food, skin care, household...
^^A Shapely Prose fan on Vegan Forum? It's like all my interrnet hangouts are merging!
Ooh, I might get one of those - but I'm not sure my lack of utter skinniness would be seen as a good thing!
I'm sorry, I can't really help you. My vit D issues haven't affected my energy level. I hope things improve for you.
Aussie Mite (yeast-y goodness) on toast, with tahini instead of marg - so tasty!
My second "anniversary" is on the 28th. Woot!
Thanks for the advice everyone! I've decided to take the pills my doctor prescribed at least until my next appointment. That way he'll know what I've been taking, exactly how much I've been taking...
Good idea!:) Thanks. Although, I'm not sure if any of my omni friends and family will take them, as they of course get all the nutrients they need without even trying, or even knowing how much of...
Well the supplements my endo man put me on are non-vegan, gosh darn it!:( Question is, what should I do with my existing supplements?
I have no problems getting sun here in Melbourne, it's the sun that has problems getting me!:D
I spent some time looking up rickets and osteomalacia (the adult form of the condition) last night....
Well, I just got back from my endocrinologist. Turns out that shielding my easily-burned skin from the sun has brought me to the brink of rickets. I have the lowest vitamin D count he's seen in quite...
I always keep some microwaveable (is that a word?) veggie burgers in the fridge in case of food fatigue.
I only recently started checking the funny little numbers (additives). Turns out the crackers I had just bought contained fish derivatives! I then switched to stuff with simple, letter-filled...
