:) "Real food" (i.e. unprocessed vegetable matter) is arguably preferable to both from health and, er, gastronomic point of views, but there's nothing wrong with the occasional veg mince or bacon for...
Hello - yes I heard vegans mentioned on the BBC news as one of the groups that are protesting. I'm not as well informed about the protest as I should be but will join Blueberries in wishing them...
FWIW we tend to use a mixture of lentils, cracked wheat and veg in place of mince - have tried one or two of the fake minces in the past and found them a bit indigestible.
I haven't tried raw ones but it seems plausible given that if you pinch them they don't sting you. You could always dip your finger in the smoothie before you taste it to check...
I don't buy it but I read something somewhere about Linda McCartney mince having been withdrawn and that it was thought to be because of contamination with raw soya (definitely better than horse). I...
Maybe if he hasn't already he would enjoy getting involved with a veg/animal youth group with people facing similar issues? This might be a possible starting point...
Unless there are enough vegans there to keep you in business I might (as you mention) avoid including the v-word so as to attract meat-avoiders etc as well. I think I'd also (as Risker says) avoid...
Garlic bread usually goes down well, as do felafels and hummus. You could do the garlic bread at home and wrap in foil then just heat up when you get there. You could buy the other stuff ready made...
There are sometimes cotton ones around - not all this expensive http://www.hackett.com/hackett-regent-cotton-suit PS OH says try Peter Christian though theirs may be too casual
If you don't want to eat "convenience foods" too often you could always prepare some food in advance and freeze portions of it (assuming you have a freezer) - that way you know what went in it. Mind...
That sounds good. If you can get big (portabella) mushrooms you could marinate and grill them whole, and serve them like burgers. I think you can barbecue asparagus too though I've never tried it.
Hello. It could be all sorts of things, not necessarily diet related - stress, for example. A low calorie intake or extra exercise could do it as well I think.
I think she did, but she didn't seem to make any specific claims about needing anything that she felt wasn't available in her previous diet? Without that link, it's not clear how a "craving" is...
From that blog Alexandra J doesn't really seem to be claiming that she had a biological "need" to eat meat (e.g. because of a nutritional deficiency), just that she fancied eating it and didn't...
I would inform yourself about the nutritional aspects of a fruit-only diet though, because there are valuable nutrients in some of the foods you will exclude, e.g. calcium and iron in green leafy...
Hello - some medicines have non vegan ingredients and others don't, but all are tested on animals, so most vegans prefer to avoid taking them when possible. If you need to take pills to stay healthy,...
No? I'm sure what I had was fine but apparently it wasn't that memorable seeing I've forgotten what it was :/ I don't think I liked it better than, say, Saf though. But Saf (the Wholefoods one) don't...
I did it fairly gradually but I'm sure was aware of the definition of veganism and didn't believe that I was vegan at the time when I was focusing on cutting animal products out of my diet (I had...
The Vegan Society has this guide http://www.vegansociety.com/healthcare/catering-guide/catering-guide.aspx which might be helpful if Vegan Ireland hasn't done one yet.
I'd forgotten, but at one time I used to have the watercress one - suppose it could be iron related, or maybe it's just because I like it a lot! Don't think science supports a link between...
I agree about not putting off potential vegans, but changing the definition of veganism will only cause confusion. Here's an interview with the chap who, with his wife, coined the term, not that long...
Hello, sorry to hear you've been ill and had problems getting the food you want as well. A lot of people say dairy consumption (or intolerance) is associated with excess mucus though I don't think...
As well as the forum threads, this article references a few studies, which perhaps you could look up http://www.livestrong.com/article/281690-incidence-of-osteoporosis-in-vegetarians/
I don't particularly like the tone of this but I think the argument re chemo vs surgery may have some validity http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2011/04/12/yet-another-misleading-alt-med-cancer-te/
Poor you. Anything with TVP tends to gives me indigestion, but tofu is fine. Don't think it's an allergic reaction in my case, just can't digest the stuff.
