Re: Making vegan food for non-vegans

I do something like that Jara, using onions, mushrooms, wine and herbs - I hadn't thought of including potato and breadcrumbs though, I'll have to try that.

Re: Favorite vegan entree to make for meat eaters?

Hello - This one usually goes down well with my meat-eating friends. You can do a bean salad to have with it for extra protein. If you can't get olive paste you can just use extra olives.

Re: Vegan recipes for non Vegans

I have had good results with the vegan version of this:

Things with pastry are a good bet in general - they are better hot...

Re: Suggestions Wanted - Cooking for Omni

    Summer pudding? http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/summer-pudding,1225,RC.html

Of course it would raise the question of what to have with it, but if you got Swedish Glace and hid the box I'm sure...

Re: Recipes for eating with fussy friends

Mushroom risotto, or mushroom pilaff if you can't be bothered messing around, could be a good solution as omnivores usually recognise that as food :D and the rice is soothing to the tum. You could...

    Re: Non-veg ex-partner/best mate of 20 years visiting...any ideas?

I quite like the Cauldron ones meself. I think the M&S one are also vegan, or they used to be - haven't looked recently (but beware of their stuffed vine leaves, which aren't, or weren't).

    I...

    Re: Non-veg ex-partner/best mate of 20 years visiting...any ideas?

We don't use soy mince much either - I find stuff with TVP a bit indigestible though I get on OK with tofu etc.

Lentils (as well as beans) can be good in dishes that are traditionally made with...

    Re: Non-veg ex-partner/best mate of 20 years visiting...any ideas?

Never mind, you can still make curry type dishes and just leave out the curry seasoning (or maybe add some to Ross's portion?). Veg stew type dishes are nice for winter.

    Re: Non-veg ex-partner/best mate of 20 years visiting...any ideas?

Good idea, Risker. I was thinking curry or stir-fry, but fajitas may seem like more of a "treat" and be less trouble.

Re: Recipes for eating with fussy friends

I agree, stickydate. On the other hand, red lentils cook really quickly. (I put red lentils in almost everything :o )

Re: Recipes for eating with fussy friends

Yes, lentils mixed with onion, tomatoes and other veg of choice are a good substitute for mince in lasagne, shepherd's pie, chili etc.

I'm guessing your friend likes her stodge, so pies could be...

Going round after they'd finished eating was a brilliant idea! What happened about the desserts, did they go down well?

    Re: Cooking for omnis

How did it go? I was thinking the same as Manzana - how can they invite a vegan but refuse to provide vegan food? However, another thing you could have made is cold couscous with roasted...

    Re: Vegan dinner for omni-family

How about couscous with some kind of vegetable stew/tagine? If you can buy harissa (hot Moroccan sauce) you could serve it on the side for those that like that kind of thing.

Re: Help cooking for a hardcore carnivore!

I think the Mexican idea would probably work well, or something else "ethnic" (maybe a roast dinner would qualify too in Italy :D).

I find it's usually better to feed omnivores something they...

Re: Vegan recipes/advice needed for omni boyf!

This sometimes goes down well with omnivores - if I remember correctly it's from the original Cranks recipe book but I've pinched it off another web site to save typing. It does contain tomatoes but...
