Default Barbeques - work of the devil?

Am I alone in hating barbeques? What is it with summer and the burnt black on the outside and raw in the inside food phenomenon...and the perpetual stink of them all summer!!!
    Even vegan barbeques suck!
If I've got friends coming over I'll cook the day before and have a picnic outside or whatever, not spend five hours trying to light the coals then burn whatever it is to a crisp! I can make much nicer stuff, hummus, salads, cold pasta salad or whatever than burnt veggie burgers and black tofu on a stick!
I think they are the work of the devil......anyone with me on this?
    Silent but deadly :p

They're rubbish. My parents have a habit of giving me one for my birthday too. Lucky me . Incidentally, I think Devil's Barbecue is my new nickname, Pob gave it to me.

    Don't say that!!!

I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about where VBB would end up if he wasn't careful!!! And it was Satan's Barbecue.

And now no-one has a clue what this is about!

I actually like barbecued burgers. Fry's ones come out pretty nice, and it's not so hot as cooking in the kitchen in this heat. We have a gas one, though, so it's a bit easier not to char everything.

I hate barbeques, this past few weeks it has been really warm here but I have to keep my windows closed because of the horrible smell wafting in from peoples barbeques!
I wouldn't mind so much if they were veggie ones but when you know what they are probably burning it makes me feel ill!

I like barbeques but our bbq is really shitty and doesn't work good. It takes ages to heat up.

I am Indian and in the very short time I have been exposed to the barbecue culture in this country, I have to admit that I like the concept, but not burning animal carcass. I like having a good barbecued vegan burger in the company of friends and chatting away.

they have an advert on at the moment - its showing some sausages on a BBQ - it is basically warning people to make sure they cook their meat properly.

Yes, I have seen that one, I can't help chuckling though at the thought of someone getting food poisoning through eating animals, I know that's not very nice of me but it's like the animals are getting a little bit of revenge!

    barbeques are ace!

I've got my own big gas one at my parent's for vegan use only. I'm about to buy a small gas one for camping (more environmentally friendly than using disposible ones). Unfortunately my only outside space is a small balcony with glass panels that probably wouldn't enjoy getting hot

I do have an indoor chargrilling thing thou

I hate them! At my college, as soon as the weather turns warm there are BBQs every afternoon for some function or another. I live on the quad so they happen alllll the time there, but I can't shut my windows or the ratties will roast as there's no air conditioning

I love barbeques. When I get a house I'll have to have a Vegan BBQ housewarming and we'll have some barbequed Fry's burgers, sausages and veggie kebabs.

Portobello mushrooms make a very good burger filling. If there's any left

I like family bbq's! The only thing is if it's at my sisters house, her and her hubby always make way too much food and loads of left over meat poor animal!

There's usually a lot of vegan food, the usual fake meat things, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, bbq'd pineapple on salad yummmm!

I love grilling veggies, but i have to say i don't get the whole idea of "cooking out" or "grilling out" as like a function...I don't know, people always say to me, "Are you going to "grill out" tonight?"

    What does that even mean???

to me, grilling is a way to cook food, so asking me that is like asking if I am going to microwave or use the toaster!

I guess here bbq means drinking lots of beer in your backyard with neighbours.

I love to grill in the fall best. The gas grill doesn't work right when it gets too hot. Year round griller here!

Love vegan barbecues, hate flesh eater ones Last night some neighbours were having a barbie. Theres no way I can keep the windows open with the stench of burning flesh, bearing in mind that besides the awful smell those fumes are carcinogenic. I don't want my family to breath that. There should be a law against barbies, unless they're vegan that is

Definitely the work of the devil! The food is chared on the outside and quite often undercooked on the inside and the smell of paraffin makes me feel quite nauseous. Loads of people near me have them, and of course it's all dead animal, so that makes the smell even worse. People can be quite selfish as well by having them in parks and on the beach and the paraffin smelling smokes wafts over everyone and everything. Who ever invented the nasty things should be roasted on one of their own creations!

Yes, people still use the stuff despite being told not to. Incredibly, some even use petrol! There was a case on my local news recently about someone who was badly burned when they used petrol in an effort to light a bbq.

There is the distinct pong of paraffin in the air for hours near me (bless my neighbours ). I've seen them put paraffin on their bbq.

I was king of the grill back when I was an omnivore. However, I feel so sorry for those of you served burnt food. You don't have to burn/scorch the food to grill it. Most people do burn food on the BBQ, which is sad. When I prepared meals, I tried not to burn anything. I grilled everything I could: Pizza, turkey, breakfast potatoes for mashing, chicken fried rice, meatloaf, corn. But I grilled because I like the flavor hickory smoke adds to vegetables. Hickory sweetens up veggies nicely. I haven't had a vegan grill since I have switched because I mainly enjoyed grilling up masterpieces for the joy of wowing my friends.

I advise you BBQ haters to try some things. To avoid burn, rotate frequently and shield with aluminum foil.

Grill some vegan pizza with hickory smoke. You'll love it.

Get a grill basket, pile in the veggies, including mushrooms. You'll love it.

Vegan meat analogues (being veggies) sweeten up when smoked since they are veggies, anyway.
