In UK you can buy vegan beer no problem, other drinks from some wholefood shop.

Dear Jayson
Little Valley Brewery does 6 bottle conditioned beers which are all vegan. (Withens IPA 3.9 %, Cragg Vale Bitter 4.2 %, Hebdens Wheat 4.5 %, Stoodley Stout 4.8 %, Tod's Blonde 5.0 % and Moor Ale 5.5 %)
From draft only the Wheat beer is vegan, however in the future we will consider to do all draft beers vegan too.
My beers are available in some shops in Yorkshire and Lancashire. At the end of this year I will start selling beer via the internet (mailorder) to mainland UK. However starting next month Suma will start selling 4 of Little Valley beers under their own label, and those beers are vegan too.
If you have more questions please mail.

Subject: Dietary Question
I asked:------------
Dear Little Valley,
I have just read about you in the latest Vegan Society Magazine so I am guessing some of your range is suitable for vegan diets.
In the chance that I spot on of your beers whilst out and about could you tell me which ones are suitable for vegan diets and of course if it bottled or cask regarding suitability as I know Isinglass is often used in Cask Beers.
Many thanks for your time and help.
Best wishes

Dear Mr Rowe,
Thank you for your e-mail and enquiry regarding Blackthorn Cider.
We have passed your query to our Quality Assurance Department and they have given us the following information:
Blackthorn like all our other ciders/perries has finings added to it to assist in the clarification. This is an inherent part of the brewing process and there are two types of finings in use, one is derived from clay, the other from fish and/or shellfish. Our products are then filtered which will remove the finings but there may be slight traces left. Therefore Blackthorn Cider is unsuitable for vegans and strict vegetarians.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us, we hope this information is of use to you.

Can you not get vegan suitable cider from the Co-op?
I don't drink it myself though.
i ignored a lot about how alcoholic drinks are made. i drink too-im a social drinker.i always thought of alcohol as being something very much veg, i mean i had no idea that it could contain animal fats or anything from animals.
Isinglas is the dried swim bladder of the sturgeoen. It is acceptable in kosher wine as a Rabbi decided that it was all removed at the end of the process. If you would like any more info on what wines are vegan please let me know,
Cheers,
George
I heard that some wines contain bovine blood! I think the vegan wine would not contain anything like that of course. I have no idea about the other forms of alcohol. I know the local vegan c0-operative sells vegan beers, ales and wine so they should not contain any animal ingredients.
I don't drink any alcohol, of course, so it is the best way to avoid any problems not to mention all the other chemicals and ingredients that may go in....some of my friends are vegetarians and also from a Christian religion that would not permit the consumption of any blood-containing products so that will include wine...I hope they know about this bovine blood business in the wines though.........!
I have contacted Westons cider and they have confirmed in writing that there entire range, bottled, draught and keg is all vegan. IMHO it's the tastiest too!

I will second that it is the best cider everPagan Vegan
and that is from the a true bumpkin cider slurper....check out the westons web site http://www.westons-cider.co.uk/ you can buy online all labeled as vegan here as well.

I usually have bottles of westons knocking around
They sell 3 litre kegs in sainsburys for a few quid - all labelled vegan of course.

Mr Fibble next time you are down sainsbury pick up a bottle or two of Westons Old Rosie they do sell it, one of the best in the range, also try Westons Stowford Press.

I've not seen that one in the midlands, i usually drink their organic stuff (it's the same price as their non organic!). I'll keep my eyes peeled thou, I'm always up for trying new vegan products, especially those that are alcoholic![]()
"Mr Flibble - forum corruptor of innocents!!" - Hemlock
Westons would be my cider of choice, but it's not available in most pubs. However there is one up near Ealing Broadway that has itHowever the stupid pub has a 21 and over policy, meaning even if I show ID to prove I am 20 years old, I can't order drinks. DUMB.
What do you drink when out?
I've just discovered irn bru isnt vegan (how gutted am I? i love the stuff!) and i usually either drink WKD or white wine so now i go the pub and cant have the wine cos its probably not vegan and cant have my precious WKDWhats a girl to drink without harming anyone but herself!!
(Although, now ive entered motherhood, i dont drink very much any more but it is nice to have a few now and then!) Oh and dont tell me any beer, lager or cider suggestions as i dont like all that - thanks!!
![]()
Some wines are OK. Fetzer white wines are vegan (they sell those in some pubs, like Wetherspoons). If you have a local pub, see what wines they sell and then you can find out if they're vegan.
Captain Morgan's rums are vegan if you like rum? I'm not sure about the "alcopops", you'd have to ask the manufacturers. I think Smirnoff Ice is OK.

wow, I really do talk bollocks sometimes don't i?Mr Flibble - in reponse to snaffler
It practically lept out at me in morrisons about 15 minutes after that post. Thus tonight I'm going to be taste testing the difference between it and the organic. For purely scientific purposes you understand![]()
"Mr Flibble - forum corruptor of innocents!!" - Hemlock
regarding irn bru. Are you sure? Have you been told that by the manufacturer?
from the realfood websiteAlso we are advising vegans to avoid any fizzy drinks with Beta Carotene in them, as the manufacturers claim not to be under a legal obligation to tell us whether they use gelatine as a carrier for the product. The only exception to this rule is Irn Bru. They emailed us and told us that they do not use animal derived ingredients at any point in the manufacture of the product and that Irn Bru is therefore suitable for vegans.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! you just made me so happy!I had checked the isitvegan site & it said irn bru wasnt vegan plus i couldnt find it in the animal free shopper - but i guess a statement direct from the company would be reliable enough! phew!!
![]()
Hmm. I think if the isitvegan website says it isn't, and the realfood one says it is, then maybe we need to check with the manufacturer ourselves. There shouldn't really be conflicting reports. I hope isitvegan were just making assumptions. Fingers crossed![]()
I'm kinda skeptical of any list of vegan products compiled by a distributor/reseller for the purpose of flogging more stuff.
As an update, Old Rosie is indeed very pleasent![]()
"Mr Flibble - forum corruptor of innocents!!" - Hemlock
Is there a Canadian list? How do you keep track of what's vegan and what's not? Do you print the list out and take it to the liquor store? I know NOTHING of different brands so when I go the liquor store, I don't know what I'm buying at all.
Peace, love, and happiness.
You need a good memory!! I can remember a lot of stuff sometimes but I keep a list of vegan things in the car, then I can take whichever list I need into the appropriate shop. You could also store info on your mobile.Tigerlily
I don't know about a Canadian list...maybe you could start a thread about it?
"Do what you can with what you have where you are."

I don't have a mobile phone and I have a bad memory, so taking a list like a loser it is!![]()
Peace, love, and happiness.
westons bottled ciders are vegan
and budweiser is vegan but they sponsor bull fights I have been told.
also bud has alot of crap in it - its great for setting off alergy attacks for all sorts of things.
I cant uderstand why the big breweries discrimate against us so
G
Before this turns into another duplicate thread I thought I'd point out that there's an existing thread specifically concerning spirits, liquours and other ingredients regularly found in cocktails here. Both westons and bud have been discussed previously in them.

CIDER is food just in liqued form, they say 5 a day, so if the orchard is closed on the way home and I can't be arsed to scrump 5 apples I drink 5 ciders![]()
Back to the original question:-
Most White Rum is vegan all the well known brands.
Bedweiser is vegan and is pretty pure no chemicals but the parent company of Bud own sea world in florida, they do not promote bull fighting or own bull rings.
Becks is a great option.
Holstein Pils is also another.
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams
bud has sulphites as a preserative - as does most "dead" beers
it can be quite nasty although its not labeled on the bottle - but its definately there.
Im not sure about becks - as I have been told a few times that it was vegan but is no longer.
I dont drink larger as a rule and after 2 small bottles of bud set off a week long allergy attack I wont touch the stuff again.
Ive also heard the bull fighting sponsorship several times.
Its so hard to keep up with all the changes
cheers
G
Gibby,
If you are saying that Becks is not vegan, what is your source of information? I asked them myself a while back and was told that it was, and this is generally accepted by the vegan community. Also, it's produced under the German purity law for beer which prohibits the use of any additives.

Hi
I have 4 seperate friends who are vegan who have told me this, and I have seen it on other forums that it is nolonger vegan.
I agree german beers usually are vegan but isnt becks now brewed in the UK for the UK market?
looking in the animal free shopper its nolonger listed.
However I would check yourself to make sure as my info could be wrong.
Things change so much its so hard to keep up.
didnt they do the same with Heiniken and Stella a while back?
Ill email scottish courage - who supply it and comeback to you when I havea reply
cheers

I was told that Shepherd Neame beers and particularly Spitfire are vegan.
It turns out that only the bottled beers and the keg beers are. Most draught ales are in casks except two in nitrokegs (smoothflow type beers).
Lagers seem to be available in casks and kegs.
Answer to my query:
Thank you for your enquiry about our beers.
None of our cask beers are suitable for vegans as they contain a cleaning
agent made from fish. All of our keg & bottles beers are suitable as they
do not contain this agent. This only applies to our company as other
breweries use different procedures.
I hope this is of assistance to you & you have the opportunity to try out
some of our beers.
Many Thanks.

Although Becks is brewed under license in various countries around the world, all the Becks I have ever seen in the UK say "Brewed in Bremen, Germany" and they are brewed under the German Purity law which states the only ingredients used are Barley, Hops and Water and yeast." When you buy it, just check for that statement, and you know you'll be OK.
Looking at some web sources, it also appears that all the licensed breweries also adhere to this rule, so it should be vegan wherever it's made.
How good it is to be well-fed, healthy, and kind all at the same time. Henry J. Heimlich
According to this page ("11 Reasons why the Reinheitsgebot is bollocks"), item 3:
3. The only permitted ingredients are malt, water, hops and yeast. . . .except for sugar in top-fermenting beers. Exactly why this is allowed in top-fermenting beers and forbidden in bottom-fermenting beers is a riddle to me. You will note that German brewers don't advertise the fact that sugar is sometimes allowed in their beers.
How vegan friendly is german sugar?
"Mr Flibble - forum corruptor of innocents!!" - Hemlock
Hmm..
Becks also specifically states on the bottle what the ingredients are, so I don't think that the sugar is an issue with Becks.
That being said, I think it's likely that german sugar is probably from beet (like most european sugar), which doesn't need the refining process that cane sugar has. But, like you, I don't rely on probablys for my vegan verification.

Extremely quick reply from Wychwood about vegan beers. They make SO Organic Blond Ale for Sainsbury which is labelled vegan.
Basically only their organic beers are vegan.
Hi Rob
Thanks for your e-mail.
Other beers we brew which are vegan are;
Wychwood Circlemaster
Duchy Originals Ale / Summer Ale and Winter Ale
Brakspear Live Organic Ale
These are also all organic ales.
I hope this helps.

Becks is defiently vegan I emailed them less that 3 months ago and it listed on many vegan databases. All becks I see says imported from Germany.
Back to the reason for my post for those interested Jägermeister is Vegan
Dear Jayson,
We refer to your inquiry dated September 21st, 2006 which we like to comment as follows:
Jägermeister is an herb liqueur produced out of 56 herbs, roots, fruits, etc. These are without exception natural ingredients.
Animal products are not used for the production of Jägermeister and are therefore not contained in our product so that we can assume that Jägermeister is also suitable for vegans.
We hope having been of service with this information. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,

Betreff: A Dietry Question
Dear Jaegermeister,
I am writing to ask if you can advise me if your product is suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets.
By this I mean does any of the process form pre and post production contain or use any animal derived products and animal derived by
products and of course any animal products during production. If this is the case it would be deemed unsuitable for vegan and vegetarian diets.
I hope you are able to help me and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future as this will help me make my purchasing decision much quicker.
Best wishes and thanks for your time
Jayson

Badger beers are vegan in bottles, cans, and kegs, but not casks.
Dear Rob
Thank you for contacting us, it is always wonderful to hear from our
customers.
To answer your question all of our Bottled and Canned Ales and Keg beers
are suitable for both Vegetarians and Vegans. However, our Cask Ale is
not. An animal product is used in the filtering process with Cask Ale,
and as such is not suitable for Vegetarian or Vegan consumption.
I hope this helps and answers your question.

Snaff, i thought you only drank Scrumpy? What's this polluting your system with proper ales and beer?
AbFab, look at you and your champagne, what's the special occasion or is it just breakfast time?
All these questions need to be answered.
I dont mind some of the real beers but they are so hard to get 100% vegan where as the cider is, yes I favour the scrumpy but I am partial to the odd ale or two.
