Hummus is made with tahini, which is made from sesame seeds. You could make your own and put extra in there. Hummus is great!

you can add them to baked goods, make pates out of them, use tahini like veggiegirl said in cheese or other sauces, add them to stirfries, make salad dressing with tahini and other ingredients.

if any of these sound good i have lots of recipes.

Seed cheese! Sprouted pumpkin and sesame seeds make the most delicious seed cheeses. Take raw hulled seeds, sprout them for a day or less, and put them in a blender with enough spring water to make it creamy. Eat as is or ferment a little. You can add herbs or spices, or lemon juice, or anything you like to give them more flavor.

I could have easily made a terrible, terrible joke about the title of this thread.

    Instead, here are my suggestions.

Sprinkle some sesame seeds (or whichever kind you prefer) in things like your breakfast cereal, in soups, salads etc. I do that everyday and it helps me implememt more seeds into my diet.

    Ooh this sounds good!

I add seeds to everything! I especially love to add hemp seeds to smoothies before I blend as my blender chops them up and dissipates nuttiness throughout. And muffins are great with all sorts of seeds in them as are sandwiches

Grind some up in a blender with salt and use them as a condiment.

Adding to a smoothie works for me, too. Just use water as the liquid in the smoothie and the seeds will make it creamy once they are blended in.

People are probably sick of me posting this recipe but here goes:

    PROTEIN BALLS (TRUFFLES)

    2 tablespoons:

    pumpkin seeds
    sunflower seeds
walnuts (or any nuts you like)
    flaxseeds
    sesame seeds
    peanut or any nut butter
    tahini
    maple or any sweet syrup
    malt syrup if desired
    1 tablespoon cocoa

    Grind dry ingredients in processor
Mix all ingredients together with fork and then with hands.
Use wet hands to shape into balls and roll in coconut and refridgerate.

Delicious and full of protein and essential fatty acids.

You can also add dried fruit, choc or carob chips etc

Oh, and does anyone know if the whole seeds are more beneficial than an all natural sunflower butter (that has no added oils, sweeteners, and preservatives)?

If it's just as healthy, chochs4me, you can eat sunflower seed butter on a piece of toast...it's delicious!

It makes anything from 9-12 depending on how big you make the balls.

They keep well in the fridge, but you'll soon gobble them up. I keep mine in a plastic container in the fridge for about a week.

I usually eat 2 a day as snacks.

As a bonus, they seem to have helped with my weight loss as they are very healthy with good fats and sustaining b/n meals.

Sometimes I don't bother grinding the nuts and seeds but just mix them in whole. It's just as nice.

    DUKKAH!!!

    It's really yummo -

Basically in a blender or food processor blend almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pepita's and freshly toasted sesame seeds with a mixture of spices and a little salt.

Traditionally used with chunks of bread dipped in oil, you can sprkinle it onto salads, sandwiches, or use with dips and vegetable sticks.

Experiment - if you can make it last that is, tastes wonderful.

Spices to use include coriander (cilantro) seeds, cumin, or a favorite curry powder - just to add extra taste. For a zing, add chilli while grinding - again to taste.

Wow!! Thanks for all the suggestions!! I really like the sound of those protien balls i will defo give them a go...

The seed cheese sounds good too but - excuse my extreme ignorance i am sure, but how do i sprout seeds? And how do i tell if a seed is hulled? (sorry i'm pretty new to being vegan so theres a lot of new foods and ideas for me - yummy ones though!!)

Also with the smoothie thing - i tried to make one just as i was stepping into veganism and out of omni -ism but i only had a couple of mouthfuls and it made me feel sick - like for the rest of the day!! I think i probably put wrong ingridients in or something and i put honey in too (i know, i was trying to put the last jar of honey to some use before i bought it no more!!) maybe thats what made it taste yuk! Anyway could anyone give me an example of a smoothie recipe they make with pumpkin and/or sunflower seeds that would taste better than my previous efforts...

Foxytina - i like the idea of making pates with seeds as i'm always looking for something new to put on my sandwiches so any nice recipes you have for pates would be much appreciated!!

Oh and Pilaf i had seed the terrible joke in my thread as i wrote the title i thought someone was bound to pick up on it - glad you kept the joke to yourself though i may have blushed!!

Anyway - thanks for all your help and suggestions!

My usual smoothie is like this:

    1 banana (peeled)
wedge of yellow melon (peeled and seeded)
1 apple (i usually core it but don't peel it)
    1 kiwi fruit (peeled)
    1/3 mango (peeled and stoned)
Handfull of frozen forest fruits (makes it taste better and be nice and purple)
Enough water for a nice consistency
Omega oil and or mixed seeds

Adjust the quantities to get a couple of nice big glassfulls out of it.

The apple makes it nice and sweet. Pear is good too, but it has to be ripe or you get a grainy smoothy.

You beat me to it VeganBlue and it is lovely.

    My normal smoothie:

    About 1/4 Ice
    2 bananas
    30mls hemp seed (6 teaspoons)
    30mls sprouted nutrition powder.
Mixed berries (e.g. Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries - fresh if in season, frozen if out of season)
I tin of strawberries in fruit juice (this adds sweetness and liquid)

Mix it all up and enjoy

N.B. I use Hemp seed because it has the perfect ratio (3:1) of essential fatty acids plus it's nutty!

You can grind up raw pumpkin seeds and mix into most sauces, they will thicken the sauce and add to the flavour. Especially nice in tomato sauce. If you put in a lot sauce gets quite thick, I've used this to make a sort of white sauce with soya milk.

sprinkle ground hemp seeds into stir fry or put on soup.

Sunflower seeds nice on pasta, with or without pesto. Sometimes I sprinkle sunflower seeds into rice or quinoa before cooking.

You can liquify cashews to make a sort of buttery sauce, really nice on fruit or soya ice cream.

I like them like that - crunchy bits!

Yes, you can get them hulled (husks removed, look paler) they are a lot softer and not crunchy, they almost disappear in smoothies, etc. Hulled hemp may be better for those who aren't so keen on seeds? They have a very gentle taste.

You can also sprinkle pumpkin and sunflower seeds with Tamari or Soy sauce and dry roast them. They make a lovely savoury snack.
