Thread: Vegan Cookbooks with Pictures?

    Default Vegan Cookbooks with Pictures?

Does such a thing exist? I'm very much a visual person and cookbooks without pictures just don't do it for me. So, if someone could recommend a few that are good, I'd really appreciate it!

There's lots of books out there that aren't written for vegans (even vegetarians) that have a high percentage (sometimes 95%) of recipes that are either vegan or easily adaptable. Pictures cost money (both to buy rights for/commission and to print) so they tend to only be in books from large publishers.

I get a lot of recipes from www.vegweb.com and they have a lot of featured recipes with photos.
I eat nutritional yeast by the spoonful.

One such book, with lots of pictures in it, is 'World Food Cafe', by Chris and Carolyn Caldicott (one of them is a photographer).

Another cookbook which has lots of pictures (this one is 100% vegan), is The Artful Vegan - fresh flavors from The Millenium Restaurant.

Vegan Recipes, edited by Nicola Graimes.
Really lovely book, loads of pictures [including of the making process].
Information at the start, so really useful for a new vegan.
It includes a few general meal ideas, then starters, main, salads, breads&baking, and desserts.

Default Good vegan cook book with photos?

Can anyone recommend a good vegan cook book with photos please?

I am such a rubbish cook that I need to at least know what it is meant to look like!

All the books I have been looking at so far in the shops have no pictures

    What genre of food?

Pictures are expensive (to produce and print), so publishing companies for vegan books tend not to use many.

Anything really as I have no books so far although some of my vegetarian books do have a lot of vegan recipes in. I suppose I could try the library.

Or just learn to cook a bit better

If you scroll up you'll see some mentioned in this thread.

I can't recomend the Millenium Cookbook for UK readers wanting a book with recipes they can just make without adaption; it has too many specialist ingredients that are hard to find here (food grade cocoa butter for instance isn't available unless you have access to wholesalers).

I have this Nicola Graimes book that is OK. Cherry has another one which is actually the same book without different cover and name. Not sure whether the one Troutina mentioned is another identical one.

There's the Candle Cafe Cookbook - some wondeful recipes but a lot call for quite exotic ingredients, I suppose it depends if you're looking for an everyday recipe book, or one for more special occasions.

Theres lots of good sites out there (why is Cherry's not on that list?), but in general the really really good stuff (i.e. those written by restuarants and food experts) tends to be in books.

AMF, do you print off recipes and keep them in an organized file for the next time?

Nope. Unless I'm baking, where I need to be precise, I use recipes to learn what is in dishes and/or any specifics of how they are cooked, or to inspire me. When I come to cook them I just sort of chuck it all together and see how it goes.

Cookings like lots of things - if you work out what's basically going on and learn the building blocks by heart then you can figure out hundreds (thousands) of recipes with a reasonable degree of success from those without too much effort. This excellent book has no recipes and no pictures (well, not many) but tonnes of info about each ingredient you're likely to come across. This knife skills book has lots of pictures and is about 50% vegan applicable.

I personally don't care if it's expensive for them to have pictures in the book, I only like cookbooks with pictures and if there are any out there I'm going to pick those over cookbooks without pictures! I'll pay more to have pictures

ten talents, or seven talents I am not sure-the book is in my car and it is COLD!- is full of pictures. It looks to be very good. It also has little vegan info and quotes from people who promote vegetarianism and veganism (is that a word?) on the edges of the pages. A dear friend from my church gave it to me. It does have some recipes I think that may have honey in them, but not many if at all, but no other animal products. Beautiful pictures. Has some info about the five loaves restaurant also.

The Joy of Vegan Baking is a good one for desserts, with lots of pictures.

Yes, I have to havethe pictures, too, and I love the idea of saving money by getting recipes from the internet, but that just isn't the same for me. Nothing like having a nice fat book full of pictures to motivate some cooking.

I bought this one recently, and really like it. Easy to follow recipes without loads of hard-to-find ingredients, and so far everything I've tried has turned out well.
