Default "Made in a facility which uses dairy...."

A question people - if a label says that the product is made in a facility which also makes dairy etc. (the label usually says "may contain traces of....") - do you buy it or not? I'm just wondering how much it would affect a product being vegan, or is it just something they are required to put on the label by law (in Australia at least)?

I used to be very worried about this - till it started popping up on just about everything that I eat.

Unless it specifically says - ''Contains dairy / shellfish / eggs / etc'' I am comfortable buying it.

Largely it is companies covering themselves from lawsuits in the event of someone (or their family) with a hyper sensitivity to some of the things that can cause food allergies (sometimes leading to death) ingesting a food with a trace of the allergen - which accidently was on the equipment still.

There's a lot more discussion on that topic in the thread called Should we worry about trace amounts?
