For me!? THANK YOU Cedarblue!
gosh - didnt take you long to sniff out the new cake recipe
I think I'm gonna make that cake. I'm off work for a week, starting in 34 minutes, so I might have to spend some of it making cakes.
stupid icing wont cool - i had to slice a bit off the top of one cake as it rose to a peak and i want to spread the icing on a flat surface WHEN COOL so meanwhile i'm breaking off bits of the sliced off top and dipping into the runny choc mix......mmmmm
n.b. you may need to alow a good hour or two for the truffle to cool down and get really thick to spread or it will drizzle out and you'll have no filling!
well, heres how mine turned out!
apologies for size of photo - havent quite got the hang of the sizing yet
Thanks for this recipe Cedarblue, it really does look gorgeous. I must give it a try. I'm always on the lookout for vegan cake recipes, I couldn't live without vegan cake!
Wow the filling and topping sounds lovely.
Truffle filling and topping
2 bars dark vegan chocolate (such as Green and Blacks), broken up
1 carton of soya cream
I will try that when i next make a chocolate cake. Thanks cedar.
Yes indeed. Be lovely poured over the cake. Adding a little syrup would make it glossy i believe but bit of a sugar overload
yes if you pour it over when it is runny it will run right over and off the edge, wont stick at all.
if you let it cool it is like ganache.
got about a quarter of the cake left.........
*edit.....two twelths* , dusts off crumbs
I'm going to make this for my birthday next week....but with strawberries instead of raspberries - yummy!!
*drool*.
That looks amazing! Thankyou for the recipe link!
I've made this today ready for tomorrow, but used strawberries instead of raspberries, and I finished it with a drizzle of the Organica vegan white chocolate bar seeing as it's a birthday cake and I wanted it a bit fancy
I'll post an inside shot tomorrow when it gets cut ('cos it's got strawberries in the middle too
Blackadder: Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?
Baldrick: Yes, it's like goldy and bronzy only it's made out of iron.
that looks fantastic ivy - mmmm, drooool.....
yeah, what a fab looking birthday cake! hope you enjoy eating it (i'm sure you will!)

That cake looks stunning!!!
Thanks Cedar, Gorilla and Sprite, hopefully it will taste gooooood!!
I have to say it's been sitting in the fridge calling out to me and is seriously testing my resolve not to eat some before it's actually my birthday.

Baldrick: Yes, it's like goldy and bronzy only it's made out of iron.
Mmm!
How come a lot of nice cakes contain chocolate? *complains*

mm...i made this (with some modifications) yesterday for my birthday which is today...can't wait to try it.
it doesn't look quite as fancy as poison ivy's i'm afraid i just didn't have the patience to decorate properly..also i had to use frozen strawberries (instead of fresh raspberries) which have become kind of soggy by now.
anyway, i'll post a pic later when it's been cut, hoping that the inside is prettier!
also, i must say the idea of using berries is brilliant. i think it would work nicely with very thin slices of pear or orange too! mmmmm
Piggy
happy birthday piggy, enjoy your cake!

not that pretty, but VERY delicious. i added some walnuts, and i used 3, instead of 2 slabs of chocolate. but that might be because i made a larger amount than the recipe called for
Piggy
phwoar!
mm, every1 loved it, and told me tastes like a cake from a professional bakery. and no-one realises it's vegan *teehee*
Piggy
Happy birthday for yesterday Piggy! The cake looks awesome
Your cake looks lovely piggy. Mine is in the oven as we speak. I put a touch of orange juice and some orange zest in. Will let you know how it turned out.
I just made a chocolate and coffee cake.
I followed the recipe for chocolate cake on Cherry's site but added two teaspoons of decaffeinated coffee and a whole bar of green and blacks plain chocolate broken in chunks( ). Then I iced it with icing made from 3 teaspoons of coffee dissolved in a little water and 8oz of icing sugar.
It is really rich and decadent.
Ooooo coffee icing I haven't had that since my nan used to make it.
Feeling all nostalgic now...
here comes the sun
ummm odd. mine doesnt look crumbly like yours piggy. Mine to be honest doesnt taste fantastic. It nice but not quite right, maybe i did something wrong
hmmm, wonder what happened there puffin? mine was so crumbly.....
i'm so pleased people are trying this recipe and (on the whole) loving their cake.
Tried another slice as you do and it tasted a lot better. Might have been the orange i put in it Prob made it a bit more sticky.
i made this again...with fresh strawberries this time, and LOTS of them!! (stole poison ivy's idea for decorating the cake not that it's as pretty as hers )
i used a different recipe for making the dough though, and since i didn't have vegan cream, i made the choc filling using melted choc, and some choc soy milk and water. oh, and i added walnuts to the dough. it was a huge hit! the strawberries make it really special!
Piggy
ooh, i could eat all of that right now, piggy! it looks lovely!
Poison Ivy --- do you need any new friends? to help with decorating, shopping ......... cake eating, that sort of thing.
I'm just an email away .......
Lol, I'll let you know Aradia
Blackadder: Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?
Baldrick: Yes, it's like goldy and bronzy only it's made out of iron.
hello vegan forum, been a long time since i browsed you, i was really looking forward to making and more importantly eating this cake having read the posts and looked at the pictures but i just tried the recipe (no icing though) and whilst it looked good it tasted truely disgusting- not very sweet or chocolatey and i followed it exactly, as far as i can tell- i don't understand. did anyone else have problems or am i just cursed?
please could you stop the noise? i'm trying to get some rest from all the unborn chicken voices in my head.
All my chocolate cakes so far have failed. I'll give this one a go tomorrow or the day after. If that tastes horrible I'm giving up!
The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well
Oh my goodness this thread is making me want chocolate cake 0.o
Will have to try this one out (and it gives me an excuse to buy some green&blacks... )
I'm gonna try this... bet it won't work, things don't tend to work for me!!!
