    Wow, thanks so much. I've bought a few gluten-free pastas made with corn and rice flours and been pretty happy with them. Good enough for me, anyway! It says they only post products in the US at the moment but I'll definitely have a look out for quinoa pasta around here, 'cause I'd rather be eating quinoa than rice.

    Kale, quinoa, vegan sour cream (must...have...spinach dip), soy or almond milk, tofu and tempeh, steel cut oats, and miso paste. And of course fruits and veggies and the occasional pint of vegan ice cream.
    See, in all our searching, the only thing we've found that makes the emptiness bearable is each other.

    Vinegars:
    Rice wine (Asian sauces)
    Balsamic (dressings)
    Red wine (for dips etc)
    Malt (chips, and for cleaning/use as a fabric softener)

    In big jars lining my kitchen I have:
    Wholewheat pasta
    Wholewheat spaghetti
    Rice noodles
    Cous cous
    Bulgar wheat
    Quinoa
    Brown rice
    Arborio rice
    Dried pinto beans
    Dried rosecoco beans
    Dried black eyes peas
    Dried red slpit lentils
    Dried chickpeas
    Dried turtle beans
    Flour - plain (we don't by SR, just add appropriate amounts of raising agents to plain)

    Tins/cartons/packets in pantry:
    Chopped tomatoes - lots of these, I stock up when decent ones are on offer
    Passata
    Baked beans (been on offer lately so we have a million)
    Chapattis - again, were cheap at Tesco lately
    Olives - about 30 jars as were 75% off (can you see a pattern emerging?)
    A few tins of cooked chickpeas/lentils for last minute meals

    Herbs/seasonings/spreads:
    Soy sauce
    Organic veg stock cubes
    Reduced sodium yeast extract with added vitamins (low salt supermarket Marmite!)
    Nutritional Yeast
    Ketchup
    Mustard
    Garam Masala
    Ground Cumin

    Cumin Seeds

    Medium curry powder

    Paprika - both regular and smoked

    Question Help With Grocery List

    Hi! I am going shopping today, today is day 10 of my new lifestyle and I have made a lot of mistakes from not understanding labels, things like Vit D and other additives. I'd like a few ideas for some vegan must-haves in the kitchen, and some stay-away ideas as well. Grape Nuts are not vegan I was bummed. Anyway, any help is truly appreciated, thank-you all.

    I think everybody approaches food shopping differently. Some people plan meals before they go to the supermarket, others (like me!) pick up things that look yummy and try to figure out what to do with them!

    I do not carry that long a list of staples. Soymilk, soy yogurt or pudding, tea, sugar, rice cakes, bread, vegan margarine, sunfower and olive oil, peanut butter, chocolate spread, chocolate sprinkles, potatoes, brown rice, pasta and noodles could be classified as items I always buy when run out of. Cucumber, bell peppers or tomatoes, endive or lettuce, apples and carrots are also bought every week, but most of that is eaten by our rabbit and guinea pigs. Vegetables and things like tofu or other meat alternatives vary every week. Depending on the type of week or my budget we buy a mix of fresh and frozen or just fresh. I seldom if ever buy in bulk.

    Lentils and instant oats (crushed up rolled oats no added sugar or anything). Nuts and seeds. I like sunflower seeds cause they seem to be the cheapest and almonds as I have read they are healthy. I don't really keep anything else as a staple. I used to keep rice all the time as well but I've found that I eat all together way to many grains as it is so I probably don't need to eat the rice for any nutrients or what ever and I never really liked it all that much anyway. If I had unlimited money id add frozen berries to the list but I dont and so only buy them when im feeling rich.
