Did the chef just say chicken stock?????

Yup! I Heard that too! I hope it was just a slip of the tongue!
I've written to points of view about it and emailed readysteadycook to ask.

Excellent!! You're going to be famous at this rate

I saw Ready Steady Cook too - and I heard the chicken stock part!! It didn't seem that creative, having one 'main' and three deserts! lol but I suppose it does depend on what they get brought in for their ingredients vs what they have in their 'storecupboard'.
Just before they finished though, it looked like the chef drizzled honey over one of the dishes! It looked like it was one of those runny honey squeezy bottles he was using, even the person I was watching it with thought it might have been honey.
But the vegan lady didn't seem bothered, and she didn't bat an eyelid when he said chicken stock - who knows if she honestly didn't care, or if she was too embarrassed to say something? She didn't look embarrassed.
Funny that Ainsley said they get lots of letters from vegans!
I just checked their website - in the recipe for the risotto it says 'vegetable stock', and there is no sign of honey in the other recipes, but no sign of anything else he might have been pouring over (from a squeezy bottle!).
Perhaps it wasn't honey, could it have been maple syrup or something similar? I didn't see it so I can't comment, but I know that you can get things like maple syrup/golden syrup in squeezy bottles.
that's true!
Dear Risker,
Thank you for your e-mail and interest in Ready Steady Cook.
Yes it was a slip of the tongue! He did, in fact, use vegetable stock.
Kind Regards

Good. Shame the woman didn't correct him on air.

I expect they'll mention it on a later programme.

he might have really used chicken stock but then they got so many complaints that they just SAID it was a slip of the tongue we'll never know! I hope they do say something on the next program. I always thought that show was taped so they could have just re-said it and edited it?? I'm sure I've seen a blooper of the show that they couldn't have aired. Maybe they don't like to have to edit it so they only do it when it's dire need lol
A friend of mine says they said dried egg (even though it was clearly egg replacer), chicken stock, and honey. Whether these things were used or not, the impression was given that vegans eat those foods. Particularly as the contestant didn't say anything and ate the food
The Vegan Society is lodging a complaint and asked if people who saw the program can complain to the BBC.
Also you can complain to Ofcom here:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/pro...?itemid=286480
If they investigate and uphold the complaint then the BBC will have to read the ruling out.
It was on when the first post was made in this thread, 4:30PM January 4th BBC2

Ok I've sent a complaint to them
will someone complain for me - I'm too busy!
(I promise it's not just laziness! We are emigrating for Australia on Tuesday!)
What's the actual complaint? That it made out vegans eat food which we don't?
To be honest all I saw seemed to be the guy accidentally saying 'chicken stock', I'm not going to make an official complaint about a slip of the tongue.

Honey and eggs were mentioned as well, apparently.
It's not a live show, so could easily have been edited. It's pretty important that Joe Public doesn't get even more confused about what vegans eat.
I've written to offcom too.

Just out of interest did anyone hear anything back from ofcom? I've checked their website and they've made no mention of any complaints being recieved about it.

Oops - yeah I did. They said it wasn't their problem, basically.
Helpful!

I maybe didn't make that clear - it's not an area they cover. Whether that is because it is the BBC, I'm not sure. But they said that they had no power over the content of programming on the BBC.
Boycot the BBC!
They are horrible.
Now they've got a guy on it who says he's a vegetarian, but not a strict vegetarian because he east chicken duck and fish.
He's brought prawns on because he says they're a type of fish.

Hahahahaaaaa that's sooooo stupid!
We have an Australian version of that show and I once saw a vegan on it. Of course, he lost.
Actually, it was a celebrity edition. The host of 'Australian Idol' is a vegan.
The vegan lost on this one too, I don't think it was unfair/biased though as the food the chef made wasn't as good as the competition (creativity wise). The votes did come pretty close still anyway which suprised me.
