    Default Vegan Birthday Castles

Hey guys, it's the missus' birthday coming up, and I'd love to take her to one of those really nice castle type hotels for the weekend. We live in the south east of England, and wondered if any of you guys knew of anywhere cool to stay (anything that looks like a castle, or has amazing rooms with 4 poster beds, or has an amazing view etc) that also does vegan food?

Bit of a long shot, I'll otherwise start ringing around some of the castles and enquire about specific menus.

    Any help much appreciated, thanks

Someone told me this place was vegan-friendly though I must admit it doesn't look it from the menus on the site.

Might be worth an enquire, if it isn't too far for you to go.

I happen to know someone who once stormed Guildford Castle dressed as a norman and lay siege to it before being evicted by the police. Perhaps you could do something similar?

That place is fab. My veggie friend had her wedding there. The owner/chef is vegan, so although there are a few non vegan things on the menu it's very vegan friendly, and the food is amazing! Rooms have vegan soap and vegan chocolate and herbal tea too

    Obviously I have photos
soup - thai flavours I think, quite coconutty
dinner - I had a bit of everything, almost (Only one thing wasn't vegan.)
dessert - was a poached pear with chocolate sauce
and for breakfast I had baked tofu on sprouted clover. Yum.

Not exactly a massive castle, but certainly mediaeval and atmospheric, and the four poster room I had a peek in looked lovely.

Yes, I thought I'd read/heard that, but they seem to be keeping quiet about it on their web site!

Now I come to think about it, a friend of mine did try to book up for us to go there once, but it seemed to be full quite a way ahead, so Purple had better get cracking if it appeals.

Edited to add - the photo of your dessert speaks volumes, Cherry

Yeh, I notice there's fish on the menu now

It's a shame they don't feel they can be fully vegetarian Maybe they need more vegans to visit.

Hey guys, thanks for the response - that looks pretty cool that place. It's 150 miles, which isn't too bad. Google map says 4 hour journey though, but that's okay. Birthday is coming up pretty quick, so I do have to get my arse in gear!

Someone stormed guildford castle? lol! What was that in aid of? :P

And for those of you who have only a little (or no) knowledge of Guildford... behold - our very own bearded lady http://images.google.co.uk/images?sv...dy&btnG=Search

(unfortunately no good pictures exist at the moment, and wikipedia removed the bearded lady reference because they thought it was a joke ).

in fact, just google for "bearded lady" in google, and she's the first picture you get!! She's practically famous

Lol! That's great, didn't know she had a myspace

Obviously that's someone else just collecting pics of her, but I've seen her around a couple of times. Usually wears that leopard print coat. The weirdest thing is, she came into subway once (when I was just ovo-lacto-v), and sat opposite me. She was wearing eye-liner, which I found quite strange.

I guess maybe it is a guy, but a transvestite/transexual? Not quite sure why you'd put eyeliner on, and not notice a huge beard, but hey ho

Isn't that the trend these days...to be non gender specific?
