Talking Vegan Catering in London area

I just wanted to let people know about Skye Cooks who have catered two entirely vegan events for me recently. The food has been fabulous and a real hit with all my guests - the vegans, veggies and the meat-eaters.

They aren't a veggie company but certainly do impressive vegan food. I would use them again.

Here is a list of what I had for a buffet:-
    1. Catalan spinach and cumin filo parcels, with a chili tomato dip.
    2. Wild mushroom filo money bags.
    3. Cherry tomato and caramelized tart tatin.
    4. Tuscan sunshine vegetables with vegan pesto in a basil pastry cup.
    5. Marinated tofu purses filled with minted broad bean pate.
    6. Ciabbatta crostini with artichoke pate and deep fried rocket.
    7. Gado gado salad. (Platter of raw vegetables with an Indonesian peanut sauce).
    8. Calzone filled with butternut squash, peppers, aubergine and sundried tomatoes.
    9. Filo cups with butter bean and chervil puree topped with a sun blushed tomato half.
    10. Montpellier peppers. (Roast baby peppers filled with cherry vine tomatoes, smoked garlic, olives & capers)
    11. Crisp wonton cases filled with crunchy asian salad with peanuts and sweet chilli and lime dressing.

Looks really good. I noticed however on their menus page that they lists oemthing containing honey as being vegan. They also have something made with masarla listed as being vegan, I'd be interested to know which brand they use as I've yet to find any that are confirmed vegan.

I've emailed to ask about the honey and masarla, will let you know what they say.

I meant to include some pics in the opening post.

It was - I hired a delightful waiter from them for that party cos it was on a boat and I didn't want to have to clear up myself! (It was my 40th!)

Haha, rightly so! You shouldn't have to clear up after yourself and your guests on your birthday. Did you have a great time?

I certainly did - it was great!

I wasn't sure I'd be capable of clearing up at the end of the night to be honest! And I had a coach to catch (I hired a coach to take everyone who lived in my area to and from my house - to ease the stress of waiting for the stragglers when the boat was ready to leave! Not to mention to spare our blushes as we were all in 80's fancy dress!)

Haha, wicked! Sounds like you did a pretty good job at the whole co-ordinating thing anyhow, what with a special coach organised!

Did everyone dress up suitably well, or were there some people being boring and coming in normal clothes?

There were one or two who didn't make a suitable effort . . . but overall people embraced the theme with gusto!

Skye at Skye Cooks has emailed me this in response to the queries raised by Mr Flibble:-

"I can assure you that we use the following as sweeteners in vegan catering:
    Maple Syrup
    Palm sugar
    Jagery
    Cane sugar.

I will look at the menus and revise the wording, I am well aware about honey not being vegan and therefore do not use it, however it may have been entered into a menu description without my concentration working properly!

I did not know however that masarla was not vegan. Thank-you for alerting me to this. "

Just wondering if anyone has used any vegan caterers recently that they would recommend for parties etc, please? A friend has been asking me if I know of anyone - it's for Milton Keynes though, not sure if that counts as the London area but this is the most relevant thread I could find!

Meanwhile I will pass on Marrers' Skye Cooks recommendation even though I can see it's not that recent. Their website still seems to be alive.
