Default Live calves going out of Sheerness Docks (Kent, UK)

Sheerness Docks has started exporting live calves. These will be raised as veal on the continent - a practice banned in the UK!.

Shipments have gone out out Tuesday and Wednesday night. More are planned over the next two weeks.

You can ring 01795 596528 to ask them to stop. They've had a few calls so may not react politely

A demo is planned for Sat 17th March.
Meet in Sheerness (by Woolworths) at 10-30am for leafleting and at 12 o'clock march to docks.
    All support appreciated.

Raising Veal is banned in the UK?

What would I do about reporting it?

They aren't doing anything illegal by shipping the calves out.

But it is extremely cruel and immoral. These calves are unwanted male calves from the dairy industry. They are only a few days old when they are shipped across Europe in awful conditions to suffer for 6 months in barren concrete pens before being slaughtered and served up across Europe (including the UK).

All live exports are disgusting and upsetting for the animals involved, but the calves seem to get the worst of it as they are worth so little and are so young - they should still be drinking their mother's milk.

There aren't that many places that permit live calf exports - thanks to the actions of demonstrators. It is at the discretion of the port whether they allow live exports, so demonstrations, phone calls, letters, bad publicity can help to make it more trouble than it is worth.
