i don't know how one would make it, but i know that alpro make a soya-based bio-yoghurt type thing, if that's what you mean by 'proper' yoghurt?

you can buy it in sainsbury's in the yoghurt section, but presumably if they make it, it must be possible to do it yourself using soya milk, if you don't want to buy

The search button is your friend

There's a thread here about making soya yogurt; it's a bit mixed up but you should find some useful information if you read through the posts.

Plain soy yoghurts sometimes claim to contain live cultures, e.g.

Perhaps you could try using something like that as a starter.

Apparently you can make a kind of vegan yogurt using kefir grains, which are tiny cultures of yeast. I have a book called Wild Fermentation and the author describes a friend adding some of these grains to a can of coconut milk, and drinking the fermented product. It tastes great supposedly. You can't just walk into a shop and buy these grains however. Unless your local wholefood store sells them, you have to purchase them online. More info on kefir can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kefir#Making_Kefir
