Don't know. It's Lidl so i don't look at any of the labels as i will not recognise them. It is the only packet of dark chocie biscuits they do though.

I've been using Bisto gravy granules for ages as it states on the container they are suitable for vegetarians and it doesn't state that they contain eggs or dairy. Plus, I read on a vegan site they were suitable for vegans!
    It just says........contains:celery, soya, wheat!

    What else could it be?

I'm going to have to contact them directly to find out what the truth is!

Oreos available in the UK are NOT vegan (unless you find the American ones imported and sold at a ridiculous price).

By the way, Lidl brand products are called "Parkside".

I'm going to have to look in Lidly more often I think as they do seem to do some vegan food. My Mum bought their mince pies at Xmas and they were vegan AND delicious!

What about Oreos in the US? I think it's only certain kinds, but I'm kind of confused. Back when I'd recently stopped dairy (don't remember if I was vegan or if I was just stopping all forms of dairy, either way it was pretty early), and I remember that I was at a social event and there were big cakes and a plate of Oreos. I thought, "Oh, yeah, Oreos are vegan, aren't they?" and went for them. Didn't even think about different distributors, changes of ingredients over time, or different varieties of cookies. Also, there wasn't a package in sight, even though it was stated that they were Oreos. Nowadays I would ask or if unable to speak (more likely scenario) go without.

I am sure that the last time I looked at a packet of tooty frooties they had something bad in them like shellac or cochineal, could be wrong though. They did used to be ok I know but it looked like they had changed the recipe.

I had no idea Jelly Tots were vegan, might have to go get me a packet of them later! I was pleasantly suprised that Bourbon biccies, ginger biccies and most brand of fruit shortcake biccies are all vegan and highly dunkable.

Tooty Frooties are listed as vegan in my copy of Animal Free Shopper (7th edition).

I will check the ingredients today to make sure but they had better be vegan as I eat a packet nearly every day!

I've just got off the phone from the customer care at Rowntrees and they have told me that Tooty Frooties are indeed NOT vegan.

I feel a bit sick at the thought of eating crushed up insects. I am also very angry at the fact that the Animal Free Shopper listed them as vegan!

That is strange as not only were they in the last vegan shopper I bought (admittedly I don't own the most recent one) but someone once forwarded me a Rowntree/Nestle product list and it definitely said they were vegan on there along with jelly tots and some mints and other things

Well...they can't be as bad as that 99% list PETA came up with that one time, can they be? (And I'd ALREADY told my dad that coco-puffs was vegan before I looked at the package, before I saw that the list I was reading was sourced from the PETA 99% list. *smacks self*)

Is the lactic acid in Jelly Tots none dairy then? I've been avoiding them all this time unnecessarily then

I'm pretty sure Jelly Tots are vegan (I have no conclusive evidence though). The lactic acid used in food production is rarely, if ever, derived from milk.

It is very confusing, I have the latest animal free shopper but don't really trust it as recipes are always changing. I have always assumed jelly tots to be ok though, I hope they are.

    Yes, it is philfox!

The nice lady in customer services told me today Jelly Tots were the only vegan sweets Rowntree make!
Plus, lactic acid used commercially is nearly always non-dairy these days!

I believe (don't quote me 100%, but I've read a lot on the Internet lol) that lactic acid is almost never from a dairy source except when it's in a dairy product.

But the thing is Tooty Frooties were NEVER suitable for vegans so shouldn't have been in ANY edition of Animal Free Shopper!

They also list Rainbow Drops as suitable and the information I got from the company said they aren't!

I think from now on I'll just contact the company directly to ask about a product.

Rainbow Drops were vegan up until a few months ago when cochineal was added to the ingredients.

You have to wonder why they do stuff like that! What bright spark thought, 'Oh, I know these Raindbow drops aren't pink enough.......let's put crushed up insects into them, the kid's will love it!
