That's amazing - must put Croatia in front of most other countries I would think? How has it gone down with the public?

What's the distinction between killing and euthanasia? If someone wants their 'companion animal' killed, do they just leave it outside a shelter and let them do it in 60 days time?

I suppose at least it gives the shelter a chance to rehome them.

    Thank you.

Public are accepting this law very good. Problem is with lobies and politicaly connected wealthy individuals with opposite interests. Average citizens comments are mostly ''why didn't we get this law earlier''.

First paragraph is talking about killing of companion animals without ''reason'' - because people don't want animal any more or because another breed of dog is trendy this season

You're right, there is no difference between killing and euthanasia. As RedWellias said, it's opportunity to find animal a home in 60 days. People can leave animals in front of shelters (or anywhere) only illegaly, because it's not legal to kick animal out of home. Shelters can kill animal only if there is no place for more animals and they are obligated to try to find animal a home in those 60 days or more (through adds, socialization programs etc.) Btw, Mr. Flibble, I think that period in England is 7 days?

By the law dogs must be microchipped, but only after january 1. 2007 and not retroactively, so we (Animal Friends Croatia) are trying to implement this law retroactively on all living dogs. Abandoning will be much harder then.
