Default Food firm in a stew over Gandhi curry

    From Austraian abc on-line:
Mahatma Gandhi's family is pleading with the Indian Government to force an Australian takeaway firm called Handi Ghandi - "Great Curries...No Worries" - to stop using the vegetarian pacifist to sell its food. According to its website, the company sells a range of meat and vegetarian curries - including beef, which is sacred to Hindus and forbidden. "It's offensive," Tushar Gandhi, the activist's Bombay-based great-grandson and head of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, told Reuters. "It goes absolutely against all his beliefs. Using his image to sell beef curries and such doesn't gel".

A photo of the cafe shows their incorrect spelling for Gandhi too! Ignorant lot.

That to me, is very disrespectful, to use Gandhi like a gimmick to sell curry. It is equally disprespectful to sell BEEF using his name - considering cows are sacred to the Hindu religion.

Actually most Hindu's I know are vegetarian and I think they would be disgusted by this.

Some people have no shame and will do anything to make a buck.

Over here there are quite a few Chinese Buddha restaurants, now Chinese buddhists are usually vegetarian/vegan so one would expect a vegetarian menu, but oh no, most Chinese people can crow bar a bit of meat into any dish.

I would hope the majority of dishes were vegan tho, if not is really just as bad as handi gandi, using a religious entity to apeal to meat eaters isn't logical to me, they clearly don't care about the religion if they are going there for such foods. The pork and such is what appeals to the carnivore majority why muct they disrespect these religions for no gain, it makes no sense only outrage. And countries wonder why other countries hate them. If someone blatantly and openly disrespects what you believe in, what emotion finds you?

Seems that the Gandhi outcry has forced the restaurant to make a new logo, though they apparently keep the name of Handi Ghandi. I guess they deliberately mis-spelt the name of Gandhi, as the name is protected under India's constitution (but not outside of India.

The Lennox Heads based company that has two shops on the Gold Coast, plans to open two new stores in Sydney in 10 weeks time.
