That's awesome! Thanks! I'll definitely check it out when I'm up there. Now I just gotta figure out what we're gonna do for the rest of the 2 days we're there.

I went to TJ Scallywaggles two days ago and it was reallyyy good.
I got the small meatball sub and the large sproccoli (spinach and broccoli) pizza, they were both really amazing.
It's also right next to an asian vegan place, which I didn't try, but on my next trip to Boston I'll definitely be going.
Oh, and you get a free cookie if you put money in the tip jar, and they're very tasty
I also saw a bunch of desserts on the menu, but I didn't get any. Among them were carrot cake which I can only imagine would be delicious!

They have some good reading material too, I guess they're affiliated with an anarchist group in Boston, so it's interesting.

So definitely make a trip to TJ Scallywaggle's if you're in the Allston area!

Terem, I know what you're talking about, it's called grasshopper. I wasn't crazy about it... Kind of bland. Could just be what I got though. Should've went to TJs

I think tofu sauteed with Spicy Bamboo Shoots, Onions, and Scallion. Spicy my ass! The sauce was like gravy, bland bland bland.

Too bad the vegan restaurant just up the street in Brookline, My Thai, just closed. I used to go there for my bday. At least their main restaurant in Boston chinatown is still going strong.

There's also Wheeler's vegan ice cream which we've been meaning to go to!
And Veggie Planet at Club Passim in Harvard Sq. is excellent. Up in Davis Sq., Blue Shirt Cafe is yummy (not a vegan restaurant, but plenty of vegan choices). And there's the new vegan raw place in the North End...Grezzo I think it's called, haven't been there yet.
Boston really has a lot to offer...don't know why we're never mentioned in VT or anything!

T.J.'s closed. Grasshopper must be overwhelmed being the only place in the neighborhood that, pre-recession, had three.

It's a shame about TJ's and My Thai. Those were both amazing places.

Yeah, TJ's closed. It's a shame, I was really coming around to the place and starting to enjoy it more.

Grasshoppers is my favorite though. If you go there, you MUST get the "no name" and "sweet and sour sensation".

    Trust me!

Oh, by the way, another Vegan Pizza place opened where TJ's was. It's called "Peace of Pie" (I think). It's very good!

Hope you'll keep this up, Bexx. I find myself including the URL in replies to inquirers AND reposting it occasionally to Facebook and other online sites (through Shareaholic).

I think that the various veg-Meetups are good resources for getting started in any area BECAUSE the diehards who run them often have enough information to get a person going, and others in the network who are NOT frequent attendees can answer questions in the Meetup forums. A simple calendar archive gives an idea of what a network has explored. True, MOST meetups don't do much of value; vegetarian groups often just dine out; but a group need NOT be that way, and some good vegan energy can often bring a semi-dormant group back into full blossom.

We now have a vegetarian/mostly-vegan diner in Boston(Cambridge) called Veggie Galaxy! It is fantastic! Veggie Burgers, seitan loaf, tofu omelet, Boston cream pie, and much more! Also, in neighboring Somerville(5 min by subway), there is a fairly new gourmet vegan restaurant called True Bistro.
