ThankuI guess so it is alot different
    - I mean another thing I didnt mention is creating a route, outside.I am lucky I guess that there is a large park near me.. I run a bit round that, then on the street, and back up a bit of the park.
I think I should 'ban' myself from the gym, and getmyself used to being outside running.
Cos I feel I am copping out if I run at the gym.I want to be able to do my exercise anywhere, even if I am staying with my parents or whatever. and I can do that if I accustom myslef to running outside.
Tis the only aerobic exercise I enjoy really.

Ug, i used to feel comfortable running outside...not so comfortable on the sidewalks with lotsa passersby, but once you get in "the zone" it is easy to ignore everyone. Now I am not so comfortable with it for the same reasons as you. My endurance has decreased, and so I know I would have to stop often, where as at home on the treadmill it is easier to just slow down for a second, grab something to drink and keep on keepin on.
I recently just joined the fitness center at work and it is so amazing, at only $10 a month there is so MUCH equipment for everything you could want to work out...5 treadmills, 3 tvs, a radio, a gymnastics room...oh man, it is so nice...now to get my ass in there, i am just nervous about working out with other people.
I was a member of an all womens gym and it was all I could do to keep them from trying to converse with me nonstop in the most annoying fashion. " You seem to be getting a good work out," "have you measured yourself lately?" " who is Iron Maiden?" ha...true story, i always worked out in my maiden shirt...

I just wanna have a gym all to myself...and the sidewalks all to myself on a sunny, breezey day...*sigh*
    ...take it to the bridge...

I run outside and on treadmills at the gym. I prefer to do speed/hill work on the treadmills but distance work outside. They are different - but as others have said it is just a case of practice. Treat running outside like you are starting running all over again. It sounds like you are probably trying to go too fast too soon and are struggling with the pace. You will soon get into it and it is definitely the right time of year to be running outside! Good luck!

True Holly-Treadmills are great for just upping the pace and running you a** off, without worrying about anythiung else.
I will treat it like that again, I am just scared of losing the fitness level I have built up!

You inspired me Sugarmouse. I went running first thing this morning, only 3 miles though but man, it was a lot harder the before. Probably because I hadn't fun in 5 months. I'll get it back though. Thanks for the motivation!

Well I am glad I been someones inspiration. I am going to have to do this slloooooowly I know. I did few laps of my block today. Thats another thing aswell ,how do you plan your route? With a treadmill its pretty basic isnt it.You dont have t othink! All these questions. I might jus cut my losses and buy a treamill.lol
I really hope thouigh that I can become a proper runner, outside. Instead of a treamill runner. Tis a little ambition.

Don't buy a treadmill! You'll never run outside! Then you will you do when you go away a few days? Treadmills don't fit in even the biggest luggage.
I'd find on good route, a loop and then expand on it. The loop will get bigger and bigger. When you feel like it's getting easy, which it will, go another block and see where it takes you. It's like an adventure!

I took the first step and went and tried on some running shoes yesterday, apparently I am an under pronator with high arches. I liked the Asics nimbus shoes but they couldn't tell me at the time if they were completely vegan or not but are going to find out Still not sure I'll make it around the block even but I'm going to give it a go !!

Ah, a supinator just like me

I'm running with the New Balance 1061s and I find them very supportive. A little too heavy for me (my last pair were super light) but they're bouncy, comfy and great for supinators. And they're vegan

Just thought I'd post the email I got back from asics incase anyone was thinking of getting some anytime

    Hi Tracy

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Asics products.

I am pleased to confirm that all of our running shoes are made of Synthetic
leather. The easy way to be sure with our products is the product code, if
the second letter of the code is an N then they are synthetic, any other
second letter would usually mean that they are leather, this same principle
also applies to other shoes in the Asics range, as well as our fashion
    brand, Onitsuka Tiger.

Both the Gel Nimbus, Gel Enduro and the Gel Trabuco are free of animal products.
(they'e the ones I specifically asked about)

I can also mention that the glue used to manufacture the shoes is
    completely free of animal content.

I hope this information is helpful and if you require any further
assistance please do not hesitate to contact me

I ended up getting the Nimbus 9s, they're really light and comfy. I'll probably also get the Trabucos for off-road too as they're waterproof and should be good in the muddy/forest trails round my way.

Still early days and I'm not all that good at it yet but hoping it'll get easier soon !

Any larger breasted women run? I have gigantic breasts and they flop all over the place even while walking briskly and while wearing a super supportive underwire bra. I know a lot of women recommend sports bras but I just don't understand how a flimsy piece of spandex is gonna prevent these 36DD's from jiggling. I wouldn't mind the jiggling so much except that it's annoying because men stare and also because it hurts after a while.

(And no, this was not a clever ploy by me to get more forum crushes by mentioning my bust )

I bought one of these, they go up to an e-cup and its so supportive, everything is under control but not squished and it's so comfortable

Not sure if you'll be able to find the exact brand in Canada but there should be something similar?

I got back into running properly about 3 months ago, after a ten year absence. I tore muscle and injured my knee running down hill too quickly being competitive. Since then when ever I had gone to the gym I always used the cross trainer as it is non-impact, for about a year before started running properly again I was doing an hour on the cross trainer 2 or three times a week, burning over 1,000 calories a session, to build my strength back up.

Since I started running again, I've had no problems and I have signed up for the Birmingham Half Marathon (October 26th). I ran 8 miles last night and I am feeling really good, running 3 - 4 times a week at various distances with just one long run.

Looking to push up to 10 miles next week. I am very pleased with the results thus far.

Anyone else taking part in any running events in the near future?

It's something to do with how your footwear lands when you are running.
I ran for a running club for nearly 20 years and never used to take any notice when some other runners used to go on about pronation as they were always the ones who kept getting injured.

Thinking about starting running again as I need to get my blood pressure down.

    I have a question re.running..
My problem is,I am a grazer in terms of my eating pattern..dnt eat large meals really just always nibbling on something!
Also, I am quite spontaneous with my runs. I run almost daily, sometimes twice a day and often jsut decide to there and then, no pre plannig.
I have heard conflicting info about eating and running..Some say it is best on an empty stomach, some say tis best to eat as soon as possible afterwards, some say eat slight amount before...
I tend to go with that as long as you havent eaten anything real heavy, it doesnt matter when you run as co inciding with when you eat. If I eat a couple of crispbreads or something and then 10 mins later decide to run, is that ok?
Is it better fitness and fat burning wise to do it on a totally empty belly?
    Anyone any imput?
    Thankies

    Sugarmouse,

Whatever works best really. However if you eat anything heavy before running you will find that you will probably have a tougher time (I know I do). I generally don't eat before I go for a run if I run in the morning.

If I run after work I generally eat some fruit of something mid afternoon and that works fine until after my run.

I really don't rush to eat after a run, I really don't think it is that exact a science. I just eat when I feel hungry.

Most people say don't eat for at least an hour before a run, this makes sense to me so I tend to follow it, If I really must eat within the hour before I have some fruit as it's not heavy and I still do just fine.

Hope that rambling above makes sense

I knew a girl who could scarf down half a pizza and a bag of doritos minutes before the gun went off for XC meets and still run a fantastic race. She was arguable a freak of nature, though.

Personally, if I even catch a whiff of something before my races I start to feel nauseous and crampy. I've got to give my stomach 2 1/2 hours minimum before running or else there's going to be a puke parade.

Lots of runners round these parts, eh Glad I don't have the busty problem some ladies are speaking of! I used to run regularly but haven't really got round to it of late (stay fit enough just walking eight miles round trip to college and back), would like to get back in the habit tho. There's nothing quite like the feeling of running very early on a bright summer morning before most people wake up, winter morning aren't quite as inviting!

In fact... don't think i've been since that time in may - I was living in Poole (in Dorset) and a few of us (we were 9 housemates) had been up all night, having a strange, but nice (and quite excitable) time and when it started getting light the others were flaking out and I was still wide awake, so I got my trainers (from 'vegetarian shoes' shop in Brighton, by the way, i am impressed with them, the soles are very durable and they're comfy as hell) and took off for a jog. Not sure when I was going to take a turn and go back round the block to the house, i thought back to earlier i'd had a conversation with my friend about being spontaneous and grabbing moments, so i took heed of that and went with my whim where it took me : all the way to Bournemouth, through the town (don't know if you're familiar with Bournemouth, but traffic at 5am on a Sunday consists of only alcohol delivery lorries and ambulances...), past scattered collectives of wasted barefoot people who'd not drifted home from after clubbing, through the gardens and didn't stop (or even feel the need to, unusually) until I got to the beach. then hopped up on one of the beams under the pier and just watched out over the water for a while, with the sky all gold and pink.

This might be a good place to ask - don't suppose anyone's in the South West Surrey/North Hampshire (UK) area would be interested in taking part in THIS:http://www.grimchallenge.co.uk/grim8/

it's an 8 mile run, wade and crawl over army-vehicle training ground in Aldershot, on Sunday 7th December, sponsered for a number of charities you can choose from (I'd probably go with Crisis, who i've been involved with before, but there's a selection). I'm trying to find someone who'll do it with me quickly before there's no more places!

    Default Re: Running etc.

Does Vegetarian Shoes have a website? I ordered some running shoes from MooShoes awhile back and they were the most uncomfortable things ever . It's difficult to order clothes online sometimes, as the material and sizes can vary depending on the brand. I was a little discouraged about picking up running again (I started a little over 2 weeks ago) because I was worried I wouldn't be able to find a suitable pair of vegan running shoes. Fortunately New Balance makes quite a few synthetic models; I picked up a pair a couple weeks ago and it's been great!
