Who's going to the Carling Weekend this year?

I'm heading down to Reading on my own this year, cos my friends were too lazy when it came to purchasing tickets. Anyone fancy meeting? It's my birthday on the Friday whilst there as well, so would be good to celebrate with some veganish types

What do you think of the line-up? Who you looking forward to seeing?

Hello again frosty- our paths seem to cross in the festival forum

I hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread instead of starting a new one! I'm off to the 'other half' of the festival at Leeds so if anyone would like a veggie burger with me it'd be great to meet up!

I'm looking forward to The King Blues <3, Big D and the Kids Table, !!!, Sonic Boom Six and the Mad Caddies

I also reccomend Earplugs (i ordered from these people and got my package within 2 days) as I damaged my hearing at the concrete jungle stage in 2002. By standing next to a stack for 8 hours. I think it's important for people to remember the damage you can do as well as having fun, of course!

Not at all. I was wondering after I posted if whether there was a way of changing the title to Reading and Leeds.

I was told by doctors that I should wear earplugs at gigs, as I've only got one ear that works. Should do it really.

Bit gutted Thrice have pulled out. Was meant to see them support Thursday few years back and they pulled out then as well. Still, got The Bronx playing! Can't remember who else is playing now... lol.

http://readingfestival.com/lineup/ ? You should get the ones I linked to- they have adjustable filters for different sound levels, and are designed for music.

Oh my, how did I forget out the Pumpkins? Well... Billy and Jimmy anyway... Bit worried about seeing them. I saw them on their 'farewell tour' at Wembley, and they were so good, if they're rubbish this time around it's going to ruin it for me I think. Bands shouldn't reform.

Billy and Jimmy write nearly everything anyway. The biggest put off for me, is that that they play everything far too fast live. The footage from Live Earth is just as bad as when they released Mellon Collie.

The best live line up was with Matt Walker on drums back at Glastonbury in 96ish. He kept their pace under control. I wish I still had that on Video

Leeds was ace and very vegan friendly! There were about 4 different vegan food stands selling falafel, mexican burgers, tofu burgers, soup, hummus and pittas, vegeatable burgers, cakes and they had egg free mayo- fantastic!

The bands were aweosme too but I thought people here might be more interested in the vegan side of things!

The chillis were superb!! also the king blues, sonic boom six, pete bjorn and john, the eagles of death metal...

leeds was having *dust* issues- it was sandy soil blowing everywhere and scorching heat on the friday- so much so i had to hide in the shade of a burger van!! i heard reading was a little wetter?

Who did you enjoy then Frosty? Have a good birthday? You missed out if you didn't have a spicy mexican burger!!

Yeah, all the things I've seen in the press has been about how wet it was at Reading. I was camped on rock hard ground, not the slightest bit of dampness, mid twenties and bright sunshine every day, wearing my shorts and sandals and often going topless, sun stroke on one of the days, and somehow managed to even get sun burnt I'm not sure where this Reading under water lark came from I did see a puddle once, although that was near a port-a-loo

I saw a few mins of the Chilis and walked off, I didn't meet one person that said they were any good at Reading. Smashing Pumpkins were amazing, and a perfect end to the festival. Reading was pretty average on the whole I thought. Bloc Party and Arcade Fire were very good, as were Get Cape. Brand New were a terrible disappointment unfortunately. Eagles of Death Metal were rather fun, really got the crowd going, good rock stage band I thought. It'll be in the lower half on my list of twenty-seven music fests I'd say though.

I did have a spicy Mexican burger, it was lovely although I did pay for it later that night twas quite emotional.

Glad you had a good time there.

Yeah, wonder why Leeds was more orientated towards veganism than Reading I would've thought they would have had the same caterers at both. Maybe they did though, and I just didn't notice. I wasn't in a fit state for the entirety of the weekend

I keep watching Kings Of Leon on BBC4. I wish I could have gone.

I wasn't impressed with the coverage of Smashing Pumpkins. They still need to SLOW DOWN!!!!!! They should bring back Matt Walker on drums

On the subject of food, the Vegan burgers at Reading '02 were very tasty. Like a Veggie burger with a load of chick pea curry poured ontop. I didn't really grasp what a Vegan was back then

Ha ha - that sounds like something my husband would say as well. He thinks all new music is rubbish and only listens to the bands he liked over ten years ago.

I do think music sounds way more commercial nowadays and everything new I hear reminds me of something else.
I think it is my age (it reminds me of that episode of The Simpson's when Homer goes to the Lollapalouza festival.)

Saying that I would like to go to Reading/ Glastonbury for the experience.

Yeah, think I'm going to have to wait til next year to purchase at the ten quid more price. It's getting pretty rediculous the amount ig goes up each year. The first Glasto I went to cost a little more than what a day ticket would be for Reading, and it was only ten years ago! Craziness.

A couple of us were talking about getting a vegan forums group to go to a fest next year. I reckon it could be an awesome idea

(I was supposed to be going to Download this year, four of us were going to hire a camper van and stay in relative luxury but it never happened.)

This year it was about £160 inc booking fee etc.

I bought a ticket for four days of music, and got return flights for less than that for Benicassim. And there was a beach and 40 degree sunshine at that one! Haha.

Benicassim is good, not too much in the way of big rawk music though, more indie/alternative and electronica. Sziget was good when I went there, seven days of music too. We shall have to have a think I'd definately be up for it!

A VF en masse festival expedition next year is a splendid idea. You won't catch me at Reading though. I'd say Glasto, only most people wouldn't get tickets, so maybe a European one.

Although having said that, if we pull together, we could help each other get Glasto tickets.

Yeah, Glasto would be nice, I haven't been in almost ten years, and have been meaning to go back. As you said though, it is just the ticket thing. But if enough of us chip in together it could work.

personally, i would prefer somewhere in the sun, the 7day festival sounds cool; would be a real adventure a load VF people heading to europe. and probably loads cheaper than glasto too
