Default Hot Damn & Hell Yeah / Dirty South

Anyone else got this book? It's REALLY cheap on Amazon, and the cover looked cool

Recipes look ok (lots of desserts always a good thing) - except all the weights are in American cups, with no conversions

I just don't know how much a 1/3 cup of silken tofu might be! My guesses had baaaad results.

Some great looking recipes in there though, all simple enough ingredients and not reliant on garlic & onion

You can buy measuring jugs with cup measurements on. I got one from Ikea.

lol i know what u mean with cup measurements.

my attempts were pretty dodgy too! silly me not realising that "cup" is a specific size.... i used a coffee mug to measure mine out lol damn there is no "doh" smiley on this forum!

what type of recipes are in the book?

Me too, I used a mug

There's alot of 'southern fried' style, and lots of mexican type foods too... it's two books back to back, one is kind of American Deep South style and the other side is more Mexicanish. Both have a big dessert section

Actually the recipes are really varied, but long lists of herbs & spices so not for lazy cooks like me.

    No piccies though

A US cup is half a US pint.
A US pint is 16fl oz not 20fl oz like a UK pint
A US cup is 8fl oz

Why the heck they measure non-liquids in cups is anyone's guess. I much prefer weighing stuff to measuring it.

US measurements are complete joke, I don't understand why it hasn't gone metric yet ><

It's a great cookbook, & for some reason it's even got a few Ethiopian recipes in there, like how to make injera bread.

I just looked at it on amazon and it got some bad reviews. Said there were errors, etc.
Has anyone actually tried the recipes and had success?

You can get conversions on the internet, just make a note on paper so you don't forget. I have both metric and imperial measuring cups/spoons etc. Asda and Morrisons do them for deffo.

I got it ages ago, and some of the recipes look really interesting but I've not yet tried any from it. I quite like the look of the seitan recipes in it, and as I've not long made my first lot of seitan I want to give those a try one day.

I've made the sour cream, Spanish rice, & breakfast burritos from the Hot Damn & Hell Yeah side, and the seitan dirty rice, & injera from the Dirty South side. They all turned out well, though I've used better injera recipes.
