    Default Raw Nut Milk

    i am making some great raw nut milk from a vid on youtube - it's so easy and tasty too!

    depending on the quantities you want to make, but i used;

    1 cup raw almonds, soaked for an hour
    5 - 8 dates soaked for an hour
    3 cups water

    blend up nuts, dates and water till all mixed smooth.
    put a fine sieve over a bowl or jug, pour milk into it, press milk through keeping pulp in sieve.

    my milk kept for 3 days in the fridge in a jar. (glass is easier to clean as the fat doesnt stick to it as much_

    i also made it with cashews and reduced the number of dates.

    you can also sweeten with agave syrup.

    play around with your own recipes.

    i use the leftover pulp in my breakfast smoothies or onto of a fruit salad or fruit 'smash' salad.

    i preferred the almond milk! yum yum

    i am going to try making some oat milk soon from raw oats when i get some, or steel cut oats, and see how it tastes in tea etc., as an alternative to buying and using soya milk.

    Sounds good. I've just ordered some huuuuuge bags of hazelnuts and almonds from SUMA, so I'll be trying this soon.

    Yup yup! I have to make my own almond milk because they don't sell any here. I've been stocking up on almonds and making milk every few days. You don't even have to soak the almonds or dates. I just blend the almonds till they are an even meal, then add the water. Sometimes I use maple syrup to sweeten things up a bit.

    Sounds like a good idea, I can buy almond milk in a carton, but is pre-made almond milk raw?

    no - unless it says raw but if it's in a carton it's usually been heated to preserve. there are several suggestions for making nut milks in the raw zone if you run a search

    Will do, I assumed in a carton it would be heated. I am still using rice milk atm, until I run out as I don't want to throw it out.

    i make almond milk..thanks to cedarblue who gave me advice on how to do it aaaages ago..and very nice it is too.

    the pulpy stuff left over can also be added to muffins or brownies or cakes or whatever or just scoffed wiht a spoon..mine didn't 'keep' for more than a couple of days though.

    *reads the above post properly this time*

    sorry vavavegan..i'm not sure where you could get a large amount from..i don't make it all the time cos almonds are pretty expensive
    bulk would be good..

    *goes to investigate*

    so when making the almond milk I strained the almonds through muslin to collect the pulp, then when i had finished squeezing the muslin I placed it on the wooden chopping board that i had dried the almonds on. Then I went upstairs - then my dirty little git husband came downstairs and decided to clean the sides with the 'cloth' he saw sitting on the side! ARGH!

    there is only one small shop where I live that would do stuff like that - suppose I could ask them to get me some in bulk - it is a bit of a posh shop tho rather than a whole foods place but good idea - you don't get if you don't ask eh? Thanks Cedar!

    I have a friend who orders stuff from Suma every 3 or 4 months. She takes orders from other people too, so she exceeds the £250 (or whatever it is) level.

    i made a really lovely nut milk this morning;

    just whizzed up 1/2 cup brazils soaked 24hrs with 1 cup water then whizzed in a banana - scrumdiddlyumptious. others may add another banana or some dates if they like it sweet.

    i've a stack of soaked/whizzed/mushed almonds left from making milk earlier..

    aside from just eating it, anyone know how it can be used in a recipe that doesn't involve cooking it?

    you could use it as a raw muesli base? add extra dried fruits, more nuts, banana etc and dilute with nut milk?...or if you are making a filling for a big mushroom or leaf roll up, mix some in or whizz it in to that? ...add a bit to guacamole...to a seed cheeze or raw sprouted hummus?...
