The Soil Association (SA) has released its report, Not What the Doctor Ordered, in which it’s determined that hospitals and sports centres in the UK need to shape up and start offering healthier choices.

It looked at vending machines in a sample of sports centres and hospitals, across England and Wales, and found they are still dominated by the fatty snacks, fizzy drinks and confectionery that have been banned from schools to protect children's health.

Peter Melchett, SA’s policy director, says: ‘Of all places, you'd expect hospitals and sports centres to be promoting healthy eating and healthy choices. Venues that are supposed to be helping people become healthier and fitter, should not be offering up such poor quality food.’

Failing to provide healthy options contradicts the government's health policy identifying diet and nutrition as one of six key priority areas for improving public health.

The most surprising example in the report is of the C2 children's ward in Addenbrooke Hospital, Cambridge, where every Saturday is 'Burger King Takeout Night', and is even advertised on the website.

I've only very very briefly looked at the report, so not sure how vegan friendly it is, but hopefully still interesting.
