Default Production Company looking for people to take part in a documentary about meat

The below advert to appear in a meat related TV program (which will be filmed later this year) was forwarded to me, I have looked into it further and it is an application for “Kill it, Cook it, Eat it 2” as you know this program was incredibly biased. It promoted itself as a platform for debate on the issue of killing animals for food but turned out to be nothing more than an advert for local farmers and butchers (farmers even praised it!!!).

Before I knew what the application was for I contacted the production company saying I might consider it but the large amount of bias involved in these types of programs put me off – I then described the faults of “Kill it Cook it Eat it” (not realising that they had made it!...no wonder they have not got back to me!!!)

As you know they edited out the opinions of the representative from the Vegetarian Society and aired NO vegan opinions. They didn’t show typical farming practices (as that would mean showing factory farming) they didn’t show typical slaughter practices –instead showing slaughter at a family run, award winning slaughter house. As you are aware if they really wanted the audience to see typical slaughter practices they would put a hidden camera in an abattoir and show the audience the footage from it! Of course best practices occur when you know you are observed!!!

I suggest people here write to the production company (e-mail is below). If you saw the last one complain about their bias take. If you did not see the last one then still contact them and ask them how much time they are going to dedicate to a “no meat” view (instead of a “humane meat view), are they going to include a REAL debate the reasons to reject meat.
    Their address is meat@fireflyproductions.tv

Thanks - I've written to them, not that I see myself as a candidate for participation but it would be good if the next series were more representative.

Oh harpy, I think you would be an excellent representative for us! I wish you would go for it!

I could see myself either getting heated and making a fool of myself or being sick or crying, so I wouldn't fancy it... erm, maybe that's why you wouldn't fancy it either. heh

That's very kind of you, twinkle, but I'm much too squeamish, and also I'm not as confident holding forth in person as I am in writing.

There are a lot of people who are good at that sort of thing, but whether they will be willing to take part after the last time I'm not sure. At least if there are veg*ns there there's a chance that their viewpoint will get a mention, whereas if there aren't...

I got this non-committal answer to my query about whether they would be correcting the lack of coverage of the vegan/vegetarian viewpoint in their next series:

Thank you for contacting Firefly with your thoughts about our returning television series Kill It Cook It Eat It.

The first series prompted a huge response from viewers, participants and industry specialists alike. We believe it was the first time the field to fork process had been examined in such detail on television and many people were positive in their comments about it.

Because it was the first time an abattoir procedure like this was shown on TV, we reflected a 'best practice' business. The point of the programme was not to take a particular view, or to say one method of food production was better or worse than any other (the carnivore vs herbivore argument).

In our second series, we aim to provide a forum for further discussion and to involve the studio audience in more of the informed debate. We are seeking a broad range of opinions and experience and believe the people involved in the programme will all have an interest in the subject - whether it be for or against. We are working with a number of organisations with differing views and will provide a balanced and intelligent studio discussion of many issues.

Thank you again for contacting us.
We hope you appreciate the new series when it is aired.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Harpy

I have had virtually the same reply from then so it is obviously a standard one. But I did have an extra bit

We are reflecting simply what goes on in the meat production industry to bring meat to the plate. This is not an under-cover investigation.
I will be writing back, and among the points I am going to be make are….

We are reflecting simply what goes on in the meat production industry to bring meat to the plate.
Not in typical term which is what you should be doing if the program was to have any meaning at all.

many people were positive in their comments about it.
Probably those in the meat and live stock industry who would have no doubt breathed a sigh of relief that best practice, rather than typical practice was shown. Organic meat is 5-8% of the market. Every veggie and vegan I spoke to was angry but sadly not surprised by your shows complete bias

In our second series, we aim to provide a forum for further discussion
Further discussion?! Firefly edited out what the attending representative from the Vegetarian Society said to the studio audience after the killing of animals had occurred. There was no discussion in the first place!

We are working with a number of organisations with differing views
Which organisations please as I did specifically ask for a list and you have not answered my question

will provide a balanced and intelligent studio discussion of many issues.
Which issues? Since your questionaire only had one question for veggies and vegans you answer I do not beleive you are intetested in "many" issues, only promoting meat issue.

I would encourage everyone to send even the smallest e-mail to them

Keep up the good work everyone
