I am loving this thread.

I tried a something new yesterday and I highly recommend it.

It's easy, cheap and very filling.

I got the idea from chestnut burgers I made. I noticed how thick and meaty they were so thought I'd make a chestnut roll.

I used creamed chestnuts from a can and also bought the filo pastry frozen because I was in a hurry.

I emptied the chestnuts into a bowl and added breadcrumbs, italian herbs some cumin and seasoning.

I then laid out the filo pastry, put the filling on top, wrapped it up and put it in the oven for 30 minutes on gas mark 6.

I then put tomatoes, spinach, water and a splash of cider vinegar into a saucepan and cooked till they had reduced slightly.

That looks really good Karmafunk - Chestnut roll , I must try that ,

Here's what I had for dinner tonight, quite simple spinach salad with purple cabbage coleslaw ( chopped cabbage, grated carrot, onion in a Vegan mayonaise, paprika dressing) with steamed sweet potato and green beans,

I made a really indulgent (and scary) hot chocolate.
I used clipper drinking chocolate and sainsbury's sweetened soya milk. I also used a dorset naga chilli (1 million scoville heat unit chilli, the strongest chilli in the world)
Looks awesome Clipper drinking choc is my fave. I melted a Bendicks Bittermint chocolate into mine the other day and it was yummy choccy minty goodness!

When I try handling the foam, I usually screw up though. My boyf. has an electric frothy thing (ooh-er!) that does a good job, but the froth gets too light. I guess there's an art to it! (or I'm in a greedy rush to drink it and make a mess as a result!).

Upload them somewhere that allows remote linking (such as flickr), then surround the url of the photo with

Use a separate flickr account to your personal one (if you have one) to stop people from easily finding it.

    Many thanks
I do it using a milk whisk (hand not electric) while heating the soy milk through, easier to control the type of foam and it lasts longer, it also lasts longer if you add a little sugar at the beginning.

You need to type IMG instead of img. But also I think was because you used the page instead of the image url. I'm not quite sure how flickr works though so someone else will probably advise you better.

I just bought some pickling vinegar and pickled some red cabbage with green beans, chilli, and peppers.

Thanks It didn't take long to make,- I just made the coleslaw using shredded red cabbage, grated carrots and onions,-and then mixed it all together with some Plamil mayonaisse and some paprika. I steamed the sweet potato and green beans .

    Your pickled cabbage sounds interesting,

store-bought naan, broiled with olive oil, garlic, basil, oregano.
Toppings: mango pickle, avocado with lime and salt, lime pickle.

    Salad with a Roasted Portobello

Corn Fritters (Cherry's www.parsleysoup.co.uk) topped with tofu scramble with portabella mushrooms, onions and spinach. Side of allvegetarian.com's Vegan Bacon.

Tourlou (recipe here)- We get this at a Greek restaurant and it is so delicious I set out to recreate it. The picture does not do it justice.

    Labelled up now ruby!

eta cedar I'd already had the cannoli which I knew was delicious from a previous visit but I wanted to try the peanut butter bliss so I took it home.

Over almost 3 weeks I ate loads more meals out than those above but I didn't always take photos.

you can get passage on cargo vessels but it is very pricey and food is not something you have much choice over so it's not a good option for vegans.

There are cruise ships between the UK and US, including the QM2. There was a deal recently for £699 per person - UK to NY by air, returning by sea on QM2.

Goes against the whole point though, if you have to get there by air. Altho here there is a Southamptom to New York which takes 6 days.

Looks awesome Clipper drinking choc is my fave. I melted a Bendicks Bittermint chocolate into mine the other day and it was yummy choccy minty goodness!

I bought Clipper drinking chocolate before I was vegan and had to throw it out because it has whey in it (and milk solids too I think)

Apologies, the Clipper Drinking Chocolate is vegan, the Instant Hot Chocolate (which I had) is not. And anyway it was horrible. Hopefully the Drinking Chocolate is nicer, I might give it a go.

I think the type of soy/rice milk plays a big part in the taste too! Thick soy milk seems to do the job better than lighter stuff like rice milk.

I'd quite like to try making it with a nut milk like almost or hazelnut. Mmm!

Are there any London-based restaurants that make dishes that look that grand? The 'fanciest' veggie restaurant I've been to is Demuths (in Bath).

I like to make cocoa with G&B organic 100% cocoa powder, brown sugar and rice milk (oat milk is good too, it seems to come out thicker and creamier) and sprinkle ground nutmeg on the top.
Blackmail is such an ugly word. I prefer "extortion". The "X" makes it sound cool.

Apologies, the Clipper Drinking Chocolate is vegan, the Instant Hot Chocolate (which I had) is not. And anyway it was horrible. Hopefully the Drinking Chocolate is nicer, I might give it a go.
It is fantastic, it's really important to use a rich and good quality milk alternative with it, personally alpro sweetened or sainsbury's sweetened (same thing) is the nicest, Rice milk is a bit too weak really and needs reducing in the pan on a lower heat, oat mil has a fairly strong taste but can work pretty well too.
If I sink to the bottom I can run to the shore.
