That looks lovely Beanstew. Are they homemade veggie burgers?
The chicory sounds intriguing..........I've never tried that.
I like Sandra, she keeps making me giggle. Daft little lady - Frosty
Thanks, packet mix is best............at least anytime I've tried to make homemade burgers they always fall apart!
I'll have a look out for chicory tomorrow and give it a go.

Made some vanilla light sponge fruit cupcakes with vanilla frosting for my Dad and Gran (who are both big time meat-eaters). They loved them! Yay! ^_^
Here's a rubbish camera phone picture of the cupcakes:
Love Melanie

They look so good Melanie...........I LOVE cupcakes!
I must try that DiaShel.........I've tried a few times to make my own veggie burgers but so far they break up when I fry them.
I like Sandra, she keeps making me giggle. Daft little lady - Frosty
other peoples dinners and baking always looks so yummy....i must get round to downloading my photos onto the old comp!
i've a good picture of my pineapple upside down cake hanging around waiting to be admired!
Thanks Kitteh for helping me out. xxx
That's were I've been going wrong.............it's always night time when I take a photo of what I've made and it just comes out a sort of uniform yellow colour..........not very appetising at all!

My kitchen is really dark so I use a flash with a diffuser.
Blackmail is such an ugly word. I prefer "extortion". The "X" makes it sound cool.
I've taken some of mine using the flash................I don't know what a diffuser is though...............is it built into the camera or something external?

Stuffed Jalapeno with guacamole and salsa from Saf (although it's clearly not a jalapeno)
Chocolate torte
Thanks Risker. This looks very pretty, but kind of confirms my fears about Saf, which is that it's arty-farty nouvelle cuisine with small portions that leave you hungry. I'd love to be wrong - am I?

You can buy diffusers from companies like Speedgraphic http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk/flash_...tc/187_0c.html if you are using an accessory flash gun with something like an SLR. The Sto-fen Omnibounce is a low-cost option. A softbox is even better (though dearer) and is what a professional product photographer would use in a studio. If you only have a built-in flash on your camera, a (clean) paper tissue or a white cloth held over the flash when you take a picture gives a similar effect at no extra cost. You might need to experiment with doubling the tissue to over to get more thickness and extra diffusion - but that is all part of the fun of photography.

A Rizla works pretty well as a cheap diffuser too.

Many thanks for confirming about Saf. I may well eat there some day; from everything I've heard, the food is good. But methinks I am more attracted to Beanstew's picture of chilli. Ah, the many and varied joys of vegan food!
Am currently on the road; look forward to new cake pictures and some very yummy photos of food eaten in D.C. once I get back online properly..

Everytime I open this thread the first thing I see is Kitteh's donuts. I think we need to post more so we're on a new page before I fly over then a gorge myself baked goods.

I agree. That cream doughnut makes my mouth water. Maybe she could drop you one round. It's not far - only two inches on my map.

Did I mention it makes my mouth water?

I agree. Come on Kitteh... two inches!

Would a similar thread, with images of good vegan food - but which also contained the actual recipe - be a good idea? If no specific recipe has been used, or more or less detailed description of how the meal/food was could be added instead.
Some recipes (most of those in recipe books, I guess) are copyrighted, but in such cases, it would be enough to mentioned which book/recipe is called. What do you think?
I will not eat anything that walks, swims, flies, runs, skips, hops or crawls.
Excellent idea Korn. Don't think there would be much of a problem with copyright as most people (if they're anything like me) adapt recipes anyway so they differ from the original. I think it would be great to know how they're done. Especially Kitteh's cream doughnuts!
“You can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead.”
Actually Korn. Had another thought. Would it be worth making a searchable database, perhaps freeform. that people could post into? I haven't actually seen one for vegans anywhere else.

:P Are you still coming to Aus?
I think most people link to the recipe if it's online or mention which cookbook it's from and we do have a recipe sub-forum.
More photos (in the hope that we move onto page 10 with no more donuts!)

Sure - I still think it's a goo idea to have the kind of thread I suggested... We have five long food picture threads already, and a separate thread (recipe sub-forum) where pictures and recipe links always appear in the same post would eg. be useful for people who needs a quick recommendation for a good looking meal - or good cookbook - without spending time on trying to figure out where that recipe is from, or what t's called (in order to search for it somewhere).I think most people link to the recipe if it's online or mention which cookbook it's from and we do have a recipe sub-forum.
There's of course nothing wrong whatsoever with also having threads with food pictures without references.
I just think the other solution is more useful, for more people - especially vegan newbies.

Sorry, I missed this post before the thread was closed (again: use start a new one!)....
Yes, we could have a separate section for recipes - but it would have to be searchable using the normal standard search feature, otherwise, people would have to search different places. Right now it seems that a separate thread (maybe even a subforum? hmmm....) called 'Recipes with pictures' would be just as useful. But thanks for the suggestion. Let's think about it....
PS - before anything else, the vBUlletin team needs to improve the Search function here. vB4 search has some improvements, but the old (pre vB4) version was a lot easier to use.

As promised! I am back from the road and have three sets of pictures. The first are some simple dishes I made in August. The second are some cakes I made before going away (for my Mum's birthday, a neighbour's birthday and a hen night (batchelorette party)). The third are from a restaurant in DC. I'll put the second and third batches in subsequent posts.
Home-made lentil and tomato soup with home-made bread:
Home-made bread with olives, sun-dried tomatoes and herbs:
Live and let live
Silken chocolate mousse cake for my Mum's birthday (recipe adapted from My Sweet Vegan by Hannah Kaminsky):
Slice of chocolate mousse cake (this tasted so good!):
Chocolate cake for neighbour's birthday:
Pink sparkly cupcakes (strawberries and cream flavour) - I don't usually do pink, but they were for a hen night:
And again, but with some colourful sprinkles:
