Exclamation Elizabeth Shaw Mint Crisps B.O.G.O.F!

Just thought to mention this: On Tuesday in the Co-op they were on buy-one-get-one-free (yeah, so it would have been wrong NOT to get myself some, seeing as it WAS nearly my birthday ) Anyway, as I'm sitting here munching my way through a box of them right now I thought it only fair to share the information in case some of you might want to stock up on them for pressies - what with you-know-what just around the corner (I'd hate to be the first to use the 'C' word already! )

Don't know how long the offer lasts for though! So I take no responsibility if anyone has a wasted journey .

    Default Energy Saving

    UK Specific post:

I've been searching for several months for a good deal on rechargable batteries, as I plan to never buy another AA or AAA disposable battery again. I already use rechargables in my digital cameras, but not everything in my appartment (remote controls etc).

I've finally found one such deal, and am making an order today. The company is MyMemory and sell Uniross 15 minute chargers with 4 AA batteries for 17.99 (sell for about 50 quid in dixons!). The batteries that go with it (it will do normal rechargeables but not in 15 mins) cost 5.99 for 4 (either 2100mhA AA or 800mhA AAA). They ship from the channel islands so there's no VAT, and the delivery charge is reasonable. On top, the discount code MP1 gives 5% off. The downside is that they insist on shipping to the card's registered address. I would truely love to know who all these credit card holders are who stay at home all day waiting for deliveries, but in the meantime am resorting to the archaic sending a cheque method so they'll deliver to my workplace.

I've also been replacing my light bulbs with energy saving ones. Sadely most of my lights are spotlights inset into the ceiling which I can't change, but I own a few lamps too. Energy Saving light bulbs have gotten a LOT better since they came out, I remember one of my friend's house had them and it took several minutes for them to brighten up, which was really depressing at night and you can hardly see. They are now a lot better, but I don't like the colour that the curly ones give off. B&Q currently have 60w equivillent energy saving bulbs on special for 99p, but I've paid slightly more and gotten some GE ones that come in a green and red packet, which are normal light bulb shape (although a bit bigger) and cost about 3.50 each. They blink once when you turn them on first, then brighten up within about 10 seconds. The light they give off is pretty much identical to a normal light bulb, but give off hardly any heat and use about a fifth of the energy. Good for the environment, and my electricity bill (which for the last quarter was disgustingly high). They're highly recomended (unless you have dimmer switches)

I might give those GE ones a go. I rarely have lights on. But they'll help to save the planet when I do have them on. It will take ages for them to pay for themselves, though.

I wish that street lights would go off at midnight. Lighting for security could be activated by movement. Office blocks and shops have lights burning all night.
    A complete waste of energy.

I agree, and movement activated would actually let burgulars know they are being monitored too. I live in an appartment block in a city centre and without heavy curtains it never gets dark in my bedroom 24/7/365 because of all the light pollution. Astronomy is pretty much off the cards at the moment.

i thought i'd let UK people that today i saw packets of 6 Condomi condoms for 99p in, not surprisingly, a 99p shop in Brighton i don't know if they're a chain or what, it's just called the 99p Shop, but maybe some other pound shop-type places will have them. i was in there to stock up on Astonish products, a bargain at 99p each!

I've bought packs of 12 condomi in a 99p shop before, it is potentially a national chain. They're in date and seem legit, just need to find someone now to enjoy the purchase with

On the subject of light bulbs, I signed a bit of paper i got sent from powergen ages ago for 2 free energy saving bulbs. They finally arrived on friday. Only 60watts and the curly type that are currently in b&q for 99p, but they sent 4 and i'll probably give them away to someone at some point

I really like strudel, but I am trying so hard to avoid hydrogenated fat. You'd think it was impossible to make pastry without it

Crumble is a good home made alternative to strudel, so I might have to make some to make me feel better

There's a deal on with frozen party foods at Sainsbury at the moment (can you tell where I do most of my shopping? ). Only vegan option is the potato rostis - 1.99 a pack or 3 for £5.

Chilled mini bhaji and pakora selection were buy 2 save a bit (forget how much).
I bought them for the freezer, so had to forgo the rostis due to lack of space.

    Strudels are still bogof.
