Default Weight Control & Uneaten/Leftover Food

If you're like me, you'll go back and eat more.
Say you make something that has 2 or 4 servings (most recipes are 2 or 4 servings). Dish out your portion and put the rest in the FREEZER IMMEDIATELY. Frozen food is less tempting than ready-to-eat food. I'm not going to get something out of the freezer unless I'm actually hungry.

EDIT: Crap I can't edit the title, obviously I meant uneaten portions not uneated portions. How embarrassing.

    OK.

    Another one:
If you eat a variety of different colours on your plate and eat at the table without distractions (so turn TV off at dinner time, and actually stop working during your lunch break, don't eat while you work), you get more enjoyment from your meal and feel more satisfied so you won't feel as much desire to eat more than you need. And the different colours in fruit and vegetables represent different nutrients so it's good to get a wide range of colours for nutrition not just weight loss.

Make sure you drink 6-8 glasses of water throughout the day.

poppet, you started a weight loss/healthy eating tip thread. you gave 3 tips that will help people who are trying to lose weight. so the title should be "weight loss tips" or "tips for eating healthier" or "weight loss/healthier eating tips" or "tips on weight loss and healthier eating" or "share your weight loss/healthy eating tips here" the last one sounds best to me i think. if you ask korn to change it, he will

poppets last tip should also include "so throughout the day, if you feel hungry, try having a sip of water instead"

i have a tip. there was a study done a while ago (i cant find it now) the article said that they discovered that the people who ate off dark colored plates ate a lot less, compared to the people who ate off of light colored plates.

    another weight loss tip:

go buy some colored paper clips, and then put a tac in somewhere where you will see it often. now take the paper clips, and attatch a paper clip to tac. for however many pounds you have lost, you can add a paper clip. 1 paper clip represents 1 pound lost. so each pound you lose, you add 1 paper clip to the chain. it creates a chain hanging from the tac. and feels really good to pick out a new paper clip and attatch it on after losing each pound. and as you go through your weight loss journey you can keep adding on.

the bright colors make it more bright so you can see your chain. its a chain of progress of your weight loss. it worked great for me when i was 15 and really overweight!

    more weight loss/healthy eating tips:

if you adore chips/crisps fries/chips, or sweets, try eating something that is similar.

    if you crave chips/crisps:

-try making popcorn instead. you can jazz it up by adding hot sauce, salsa, or make salt and vinegar popcorn.
-try eating a dill pickle. its crunchy and salty just like chips/crisps are. (baby dills are crunchier)
-make pita, tortilla, sweet, or regular potato chips/crisps. here are some recipes: http://vegweb.com/index.php?board=504.0
-or if youre going to eat real chips/crisps and its a big bag, than figure out how much a serving is, and fill each plastic baggie or container, with that serving, and then put it in the cupboard. that way youll always have a proper serving each time and wont overeat.

    if you crave sweets:

-go buy a pack of vegan gum in a really yummy flavour and chew on that instead.
-try a bottle of flavoured water.
-to curb your sweet craving, eat a vegan sucker/lollipop. they last a long time.
-eat fruits and see if that curbs your sweet craving.

But think how much bigger you would be if you had white plates!

It makes sense. If you draw a black square on a white piece of paper, and a white square on a black piece of paper, although both squares the same size, the white square looks bigger, it's an optical illusion. So therefore if you're plates are all dark, your food looks bigger, it looks like you are eating more food, but if you had a white plate you might put more food on your plate to try and make the right amount.

PS. Sorry sometimes I'm not very clear with my posts, I got a PM from someone offering to change the title to something clearer so that will be taken care of in the near future.

nice poppet! thanks for telling us all why that works!

another thing thats good if you love chips and want a healthy alternative, could be cut up carrot sticks with a salty dressing to dip them into. then its crunchy and salty like chips.

It's fun making those raw spaghetti spirals. I make them from carrots, cucumbers and squash. The raw food movement is big over here.

Our plates are black. Maybe we should get some light colored ones for my bf. He needs to gain a few!

Doesn't that only work if your food is white or pale coloured though?!

So long as it is lighter in colour than the plate.

I'm not sure how well it actually works when the psychology of a dieter is applied to the optical illusion,
but that's the Mathematical logic behind it anyway.

Measuring cups and kitchen scales are probably a better way to go about it,
Although it might also be you enjoy your food more and feel more satisfied after your meal when the plate, dark, blends into the background, and your eyes focus better on your food.

Really, I think this sort of thing makes too slight a difference to warrant bothering to buy a new set of tableware.
    But I haven't tried it so I suppose I can't say.

This dark plate thing is interesting. I think the darkest plates I have are a light green lol. BUT they're square and seem real little. Maybe I should try them for the small size.

Oh, and I freeze stuff too. Mostly pasta sauces, curries and gravy. It's just easier to make a full recipe than try to change it for one (sometimes even when I halve a recipe it ends up with a couple of portions).

Casseroles are the worst. At 10 PM I'll be eating a pasta casserole right out of the serving dish. And I'll eat it cold. Gross, I know. The freezer thing might work though....
