Thanks Foxy, these look very interesting. I'm going to have a go, since I've got loads of kale to get through here
great cant wait to hear about how they turned out!

omg i made these tonight. these are sooooooooooo good they melt in your mouth. they are DELICIOUS. this is a FABULOUS way to get some greens.
i used white vinegar in place of apple cider vinegar, and i sprinkled them with nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper instead of just salt.
sooooooo delicious. these are definitely worth trying.

I might try it with bok choy instead. I have a huge bunch in my fridge.
sounds lovely foxy, thanks!

I can't help but chuckle when anyone on this forum mentions kale in the context of a tasty snack

LOL, mr flibble, do you dislike kale?

I think kale is great! Especially with onions, potatoes and garlic and a sprinkle of lemon juice. Mmmm, kale

Kale is da bomb.
..but what would they do with all the cows?..
I tried it with raspberry vinegar and a bit of that sea salt with seaweed in. I snaffled the whole helping myself...since the rest of the family were not that interested...Too bad for them ;-) not that I shouted very loud to tell them that it was ready.....
I will use less salt next time.
mmm yummy. and it'll take care of your vinegar craving, too!

Cherry was inspired by this thread and is cooking kale downstairs
Someone help me! I don't think this room's door has a lock and it's too far to the ground to jump from the window!

I think if it was me I would jump out the window and take my chances.
HAHAHHAA mr flibble.
ruby, yes, it helped my vinegar craving!!

Is there any other kind of veg this would work with?
Lol. I was expecting it to be gross, but not wanting to waste the veggie box contents thought I may as well go with it. I ended up not caring that Mr Flibble wasn't keen (I'd have fainted if he liked it, so 'Not bad' is quite a compliment) because I wanted to eat more of it! Not sure about chips though...
Well if I ever get kale in my veg box I'll make them and tell the results, if I like them it will be a miracle! lol

yes emma. theyre delicious. i should have titled the thread chips/crisps.
it was funny because last night i found myself in the fridge mowing down on the leftover kale chips. they were so good. they stayed crunchy in the fridge.
emma, the vinegar isnt really to give it a taste, more to just balance out the bitterness of the greens. you only need a tiny bit over all of them. i added more just because i like vinegar though

Chard, I've got plenty of that! lol

i put the oven at 350 degrees.

I might try it with cabbage lol
I think that this would work with dried onion or garlic powder. I stocked up on those when I bought that uncheese cookery book and haven't really used them. I'm going to have a go and see how they turn out. I liked the nutritious yeast idea too.
Interesting, never thought of using kale like that. Shall give it a go next week and let you know if the kids liked it, if they do then result as they wont touch the stuff.
i think kale is delicious but ive always found that onion powder, garlic powder and nutritional yeast really bring out its richness and envelop its natural flavour. it doesnt need much salt though. only a touch. kale seems to be naturally salty tasting on its own.

i had some of this about an hour ago..it was tasty but it's taken me the last hour to get the bits outta my teeth..

They don't taste vinegar-y at all so don't worry. I think it evaporates or something.
I have cooked these almost every night this week. Can't find kale here but used bok choy. So delicious. I'm going to try it with other leafy greens too.
I'm surprised it works with bok choy as kale has a very distinct texture.
Good to know!

those look really good! -- I am going to try that! I have lots of Kale too! -- I usually lightly steam the Kale then chop it up and mix with hummous, then bake for 5-6 min! ..... tastes really good!
I am becoming addicted to these too!! Blondemummy I tried a batch with a splash of tamari which came out wilted rather than crispy. I liked it like that too. If I could keep the crispy ones long enough I'm sure they would be good to add to a sandwich but I just keep eating the whole supply...
Yummy! I put garlic on one batch and cayenne pepper on another, both were awesome! Two thuimbs up!

I wouldn't have dreamt of trying this recipe if it hadn't been for the rave reviews here---it really doesn't sound like it should work.
Tried it and they are delicious---I am now addicted to them
I do what I can and that's better than doing nothing
I just tried these and they are nice. I thought I was being a baby with disliking kale as it's so good for me.
This will be my new way to cook kale from now on.
This is also very easy to make in a dehydrator, if you prefer stuff raw

Quitting something because it's hard is wrong, and quitting something because it's wrong is hard. One takes cowardice, the other bravery.
I used not to like kale but now I do - I think for most methods of cooking, though possibly not these chips, it's probably better to remove the thicker bits of stalk first as they never really get cooked. (Of course it's a bit timeconsuming to do that if the kale has been thoughtfully chopped into little pieces by the retailer.)
How nutritious is the kale after being crisped up in a normal oven (not a dehydrator)?
I had kale chips today I prefer mine really simple, just a minimal amount of canola oil and no extra salt or seasoning except what's in whatever dipping sauce a I use. And usually I just squirt some organic ketchup on them.
It's just removing the water... I would imagine they're close to as healthy as regular raw kale.

I made these once. Did not like! Sorry!
Peace, love, and happiness.
