Help!
How would I go about humanely removing fleas from pets and home? They might not be fleas, I think they could be mites from the neighbour's hens??
I certainly don't want to kill them, but I don't want to be bitten anymore either
Thanks.

"It's a matter of taking the side of the weak against the strong, something the best people have always done."
Fleas can put your family's (human and non-human) health at risk. They can spread disease. It is morally okay to kill them.
i'd check at the vets as to exactly what they are first - if fleas, we regularly treat our cats and home if necessary with preventative treatments.
hens certainly carry mites - i'd get them checked.
I'm afraid I'm fairly ruthless about fleas on cats as I feel it's a them-or-me situation.
I think some of the anti-flea treatments (such as Program?) actually stop the fleas from reproducing rather than killing them, so perhaps you could ask about those.
we use frontline and a spray for the house if necessary.
One of our cats has a major flea problem (which we think may be partly to do with her habit of sitting on the hedgehog boxes ). Ordinary Frontline doesn't seem to do the job but "Frontline Combo" (which you can only get at vast expense from the vet) does. ETA but Program might work if the cat wasn't acquiring more fleas from outside?
yes, frontline combo is the one we use.
My new vet said that the Frontline Combo is the best treatment on the market. We have to put it on our cats every four weeks as two of them have a flea allergy so it gets quite expensive.
