Before I became vegan I took regular trips to York, my primary reason being JG's Fudge Kitchen hehe! Dairy free fudge, great news, but bad news for my bank account...

has anyone tried 'the fabulous fudge factory' fudge? yum!! it comes in original or with cranberries and they do coconut ice too. i only used to be able to find it in certain health food shops, but i noticed that my local holland and barrett had it in the other day for £2.99 - bargain!

JC, I work in h+b and I personally think the price is ridiculous, even with employee discount! It's nice though. I haven't tried the coconut ice by fabulous fudge factory but I did by the coconut ice bar in Julian Graves the other day for 1.25, it was gorgeous!!

yeah i suppose it is quite expensive for what you get. i mean, i thought the price was good at first, but then i bought some and there were only about 10 pieces in the pack (which isn't good considering how quickly i ate it!!!) i might have to try this coconut ice bar, i'm really intrigued by it! plus i really love coconut. speaking of which, has anyone ever tried the vegan-style bounty bars? now they are a rip-off - they're like 80p for a snack-size bar!!!!

Do you mean the organica ones? I've tried the nougat one, it's really nice. Considering they're organic I don't think the price is too bad..

yeah those ones! i wouldn't mind if they were a standard sized bar, but they're not, they're tiny! gosh, they don't half take advantage of us vegans!

Tell me about it, Waitrose charge like £1.80 for a small pack of Vegan jellies - total ripoff.. I just buy the veggie haribos, but unfortunately the ones that aren't sugar covered are beeswax coated so that kinda limits me..

The jellies in waitrose are with the organica bars and other specialist type stuff. As for the haribos, what area do you live in? They sell them in Asda and Sainsburys but only in the halal section... if you live in an area where there aren't many Muslims you won't have this. The pack says "Vegetarian Kosher Halal", they're about 79p a pack.
There are 8 but the only ones I believe to be Vegan are the cola bottles, sour tongues and the mega sour ones (which contain gorgeous jerry flavoured jellies-yum!).

umm no there aren't many muslims round here... i guess that means no jellies for me - damn! i've never seen the free-from range in our waitrose - but then again i've never really looked - it's definately something worth investigating though

When I checked these before xmas all the ones I saw contained insect products. A search online seems to indicate that some at least have beeswax, thou I can't see any online ingredients listing.

I actually accidentally made fudge the other day when I was trying to make a frosting for my vegan cupcakes. I was only experimenting
I never measured....but it was 8 oz of dark chocolate melted, 1/3 cup earth balance (vegan margarine)melted. 1/2 cup silk coffee creamer, and about 3 1/2 cups icing sugar. I whipped it until it was nice and soft and fluffy. oh yeah and I added about 1/2 cup of regular soy milk too.
I got a phone call and forgot it in the mixing bowl. when I came back an hour later the frosting hardened and when I ate it it tasted just like fudge....it was wild. I'm sure you could add nuts and stuff to it too. it is sweet though....but so is all fudge

This is a really easy fudge recipe (especially if you're lazy like me and leave out the nuts, marshmallow, and vanilla): http://shmooedfood.blogspot.com/2006...gan-fudge.html. I thought it was delicious, and so did the omnis who tried it (admittedly, they'd never had fudge before and had no idea what it was either).
