    Bristol Vegan Fayre 2008

The dates for next years fayre are Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June.

Plenty of notice to allow people to plan ahead (this includes AlisonT!)

We had a fantastic weekend there last year - so let's make this one even better.

Further announcements to follow as soon as they become available.

    Alison - I can't believe that!!!!

I did actually post in the meet-up area but a moderator moved it somewhere else - probably because I had not at that stage put the meet-up info on.

I stated in it that surely it was far enough ahead for you to come along.

We love you really - really we do!

It is a shame it's moved, I enjoyed staying at the same campsite as the morris dancer convention last year.

Still, will most likely be there

The move of date is not the organisers fault or choice. Bristol City Council planned something else on the site for the date we had in mind.
Alison, I'm sure no one would mind if you suggested a move of birthday party and wedding to the event! Or just come down for the Sunday.

As the Bristol fayre is so popular and can warrant 2 days, perhaps there would be scope for another fayre in the South West as well? Bath anyone? Or if that's too close to Bristol, how about Yeovil or Exeter? Or a fayre that moves between smaller towns each year to get publicity for veganism for people who never normally hear of it?

I'll be there! After the Birmingham Fair I can't miss the famous Bristol one! I'll ask a friend of mine to come up from Southampton as she's finding it a bit of a vegan desert there.

    YESSSSSS!!!!

Actually we organised a meal for the evening last year - I think there was about 30 of us and we were joined by some of the guys from the Vegan Society.

Then some went for drinkies after the meal.

Not having been to such an event before, what's it like?

Is it worth schlepping up from London bringing a non vegan spouse?

Oh most certainly YES! Last year, the Saturday was more exhibition-y -with some excellent talks and demonstrations as well as the millions of stalls. We spent most of the day barelling from one foodie stall to another... and it was baking hot too, so a really lovely day out. The Sunday was more of a festival-y vibe - particularly later on when the bands started playing on the big stage.

I didn't make it to the meet-up last year, as we couldn't find anyone to dog sit for the day - I'd love to this year, though.

I have entered into tentative negotiations with SWMBO and it looks like I might just get way with it.

I have based my pitch on making a weekend of it so we could do something 'normal' on the Sunday.

I guess the next question is what about finding vegan friendly accommodation?

    This link may help http://www.bristol.vegangroup.co.uk/...tml#Bishopston

I think a lot of people choose locality and cheepness over vegan/vegetarian ness as there is bags of food on site at the fayre and lots of local fooderies serving vegan food. YHA is literally just across the water from the fayre and v affordable.

I will DEFINATELY be in attendance!!! I went to last years and it was my first ever vegan event and i loved it! I stayed in a travel lodge in the city centre, about 10 minutes walk from the fayre. Ahhh the weather last year was BEAUTIFUL i felt like i was on holiday, I hope it is the same this year!

I imagine i will be staying over on the friday and the saturday night this year, I really want to stay on the Sunday night too but 99% sure that I wont be able to get the Monday off work mehhh!!!

Oohhhh it'll be brilliant though! Excited

And you southerners have no excuse not to be there! I've got a 3 hour drive / possibly even longer train ride to get down there!

i tell a lie,it was travel inn (premier inn) not travel lodge. best thing to do is put the post code of the fayre into the hotels website and it tells you the closest places

That place does indeed look lush EP. Just to warn peeps that Fishponds is like FAR from town. But there is a direct bus there I which think which goes down Fishponds rd. The accomadation looks good enough to warrant the journey IMO.
