My name is Jenny Brown and I am the director of the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, located in Willow, NY, USA. We rescue abused and neglected farm animals and educate the public about the plight of over 10 billion -- that's "billion" with a "b" -- animals slaughtered every year in the US alone . I am contacting you today to seek your support in a fundraising campaign related to the New York City Marathon.

Last August a young goat in Brooklyn was picked up as a stray by the city pound. Very likely an escapee from one of NYC's many live kill markets, he arrived here at the farm severely malnourished, diseased and limping. We named him Albie, and upon examination we discovered his legs had been "hog tied" tightly together and consequently the bone in his front right leg had begun to die. Despite constant visits to the local vet, his hooves fell off and we decided it was best to send him 4 hours away to specialists at Cornell University's Large Animal Veterinary Hospital. While at Cornell it became clear that Albie was at risk of needing a full leg amputation. Thankfully, they decided to do just a partial amputation of the bones below his hoof to see if his leg can be saved. Albie is now recovering back at the farm, and although he's been through a lot he's becoming more trusting of people every day. Please read his whole story Here.

Martin Rowe, an avid runner about to embark on his very first New York City Marathon wanted to raise money for Albie after reading our newsletter. Martin's campaign asks donors to pledge $1 or more per mile, and each dollar will be matched by an anonymous donor up to $5000. There's an optional 10-mile bonus if Martin completes the run in under 4 hours. That's a possible donation of $10,000 or more to help cover Albie's vet bills as well as support the many other health care costs of the animals at our farm sanctuary. Learn more about the campaign here.

This is about more than a single injured goat. It's about raising awareness of a system that is abusing millions and millions of animals, poisoning our environment and damaging our health.

How can you help? We are trying to contact as many runner's clubs as possible to take on the same challenge, by either directly pledging money for Albie or spreading the word amongst friends and family.

Many thanks.
