Legalize Vegan
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/LegalVeganDefin/
If you are a UK citizen and still haven't signed the petition to the UK Govt please please do it now.
A legal definition of the word Vegan will be far easier to administer than the word Vegetarian as most are agreed on what vegan means - No animal derivatives in or used in manufacturing a product.

Re: Legalize Vegan
I was of the understanding that a similar petition recently failed, as the gov't felt the current guidelines from the food standards agency were sufficient. I'm not sure a petition along the same lines (and without any explanation within really as to why) will succeed this time.
not that i don't think it's a good idea...

Re: Legalize Vegan
This one is subtley different - the other one was about labelling - in their reply to that petition No. 10 admit there is insufficient legal protection.
Hence this new petition specifically about legal definition rather than just a FSA "perhaps you may like to consider........."
This would give more power to trading standards who are currently bound by 'popularly considered to be'.
Because so many 'vegetarians' eat fish you can currently argue that it's legally acceptable to put fish on a vegetarian platter (especially if / providing you say the fish are there)
