    Default Toast appreciation thread

Due to popular demand a thread in honour of the best food ever - toast!
Feel free to post your favourite combinations and make us all drool.
Oh, and you can also share your pearls of wisdom as to how to achieve the perfectly slice of toast - any tricks of the trade are welcome!

My all-time favourites have to be:
toast with yeast extract and tomato slices
toast with choc spread, peanut butter and banana slices

    Looking forward to your suggestions!

Applepie I love you...and toast of course!

I like to have four slices, each with a different spead on. Peanut butter, jam, marmalade, chocolate spread, vegemite and sometimes just "butter" and then dipped in ketchup!
I also like savoury things on toast, my favourite being cheap 9p spaghetti hoops on buttered toast! SOOOOO GOOD!

The perfect toast is achieved by putting my toaster nob 1/4 of the way around the dial and then when it pops up put it on the lowest setting and put it back down again. I know I'm crazy but trust me it works!

Oh, another favourite which I haven't had for much too long: a big portabella mushroom fried in a little oil, squashed on a slice of toast and topped with a grilled tomato. Top with another slice of toast and squash together so that the upper slice soaks up the tomato juices - delicious!

I'll go and make some toast now, and I think I'll have to try your method
What really annoys me is when my flatmates change the "perfect" setting and I don't realise in the morning, being still half asleep, so that instead of a nice piece of toast I either end up with a limp half-toasted slice or a blackened one

If you like that melting Cheezly we were discussing, toast your toast on one side under the grill, then mash an avocado on to the untoasted side, then put thinly sliced (or grated) Cheezly on top and toast until the cheese starts to (sort of) melt. A splodge of Tabasco is good on this.

Wow what a good thread. I love toast with a passion. (Almost as much as spuds )
I'm pretty boring with it though, either like to have just plain 'butter', homemade jam, marmalade or bought chocolate spread.
Or make a sandwich out of two pieces with sliced tomato inside.

If the toast is burnt, I just have spread. If it is underdone then probably jam, but otherwise whatever I feel like at the time.
No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

I love toast, I eat it every day usually.
I can easily eat 4 slices at a time (I mean eat it all in one sitting, not all together at once.)

I like it best just plain wholemeal toast with pure and natex with a cup of tea

I also like lettuce, cucumber and vine tomatoes with plamil mayo and natex as well
    Baked beans on toast
    PB and sliced banana
    Jam sometimes
I used to really like houmous, especially the red pepper one but I have gone off it a bit but that is nice on toast with sliced cucumber
Soya cheese and soya ham is good together with mayo and iceberg lettuce as well

I like any kind of carb heavy things like crumpets, bagels, muffins etc toasted.

Oh toast - I worship you.

This thread has made me think of Talkie Toaster from Red Dwarf. He cracked me up.

Beans on toast with loads of black pepper and brown sauce. Mmmm.

Maple syrup is good but messy.

    Grapefruit marmalade.

    Hmmm. Feel peckish now.

My current favourite toast topping Lebanese fig jam that I buy at a Middle Eastern deli. Brand name is Cortas, if anyone wants to look out for it. They do lots of vegan stuff, liked tinned hummus, fuls medames, tahini, etc. etc. but their fig jam is so good.

toast is my favourite food, bar none! My husband has been trying to ween me of it, but he might as well stop.

One of my favourite toppings is cold dahl (try it before you knock it!).... I made a red lentil dahl the night before for dinner ... it MUST have raisins or sultanas in it ... then chill it overnight and spread it on thickly sliced wholemeal toast. Dahl with coconut milk in it is particularly good.

Thanks to whoever mentioned lime marmalade! I haven't had it in years and it's not for sale in France! I've got a real hankering for it now.

I like to rub it with garlic and sprinkle it with olive oil and salt, though I think that's more like bruschetta, only with a normal slice of wholewheat bread otherwise, it's mostly peanut butter for me. this thread is good for inspiration!

    French bread ...

Slice it lengthwise, toast the non-crust side ..

Spread that with creamed corn, then a layer of chopped celery, top with vegan cheese ..

Bung it in the oven untill the cheese melts ...

    Very yum-yum!
All done in the best possible taste ...

I eat toast with some vegan margarine Simple and tasty. Oh and some margarine with minced garlic spread on some bread, then cook it margarine side down on a frying pan(kind of like grilled cheese in my less educated days). I guess garlic bread doesn't really classify as toast, same idea though
