YOU used TEMPEH?!?!?!
I've never had dried strawberries. What are they like?
YOU used TEMPEH?!?!?!
I've never had dried strawberries. What are they like?
or maybe he only forces jo to eat it?
Nope, I used it. And it was okay! I was determined not to be beaten by it!
A combination of steaming and copious amounts of veg, red wine, herbs and tomatoes disguised the taste.
good job!
I have forced myself to like many things over the years by trying them over n over again... olives, tomatoes, wasabi...
can't deal with sea veges* still though. i've tried a billion times.
(*except chinese seaweed salad and sushi if it has rice on the outside)
eta: would u like a 'chicken' salad recipe? its yummy.

I finally made my first bento the other day so I could have a little picnic since it's been so nice out. Sadly, my lunch was not very photogenic, but it was tasty nonetheless!
Top: dark chocolate, carrots, almonds, dried cranberries (inside the pink bear thingy), peanut dipping sauce for cold rolls (inside the plastic carrot), roasted red pepper hummus
Bottom: Cold rolls/spring rolls (stuffed with vermicelli rice noodles, lettuce, shredded carrots, bean sprouts, breaded baked tofu, and basil)
On the side: "free" apple (I "stole" it from my school's dining hall)
Sorry it's so huge...I can't seem to resize it for some reason.
Great bento!
On another note, does anyone know where the "post a pic of good vegan food you've eaten" thread has gone? I think it should be made a sticky.
Hey I'm kinda new here but had to pop in to say that I'm v impressed with everyone's bentoing skills .. they all look so cute and yummy. Food just looks so appealing when packed into those little boxes... maybe I'll have to get one (even though it is rare that I would need a packed lunch).

It's the ever popular Sosmix roll with some cooked pinto beans and chopped brazil nuts added to the mixture, wrapped in puff pastry and baked.

I yet have to try that. Mind you, I've had those packages of sosmix sitting in my pantry for a month!
I totally want a Pingu bento box. But I'm rather broke atm and some baka at ebay outbids me all the time...
I just googled Pingu...so cute!! I hope you're able to get the pingu bento, pavotrouge!
I found this site. Somebody obviously has too much time on their hands to make (non-vegan) bento!
today: half a seitan beer brat on a bun w/ mustard & sauerkraut, choco-choco chip-walnut cookie crumbled in the bottom, broccoli w/ goddess dressing, pasta salad
veganhomemade.wordpress.com
Jambox, could you tell me when you get the recipe for the Goddess dressing? I'm sure you've mentioned it before, but I forget!
Kitteh, I normally use the bottled dressing, but here's one that approximates it, from The Peaceful Palate.
Tahini Dip
Makes about 1 cup.
1/2 cup tahini
2 Tbs lemon juice
2 Tbs soy sauce
2 Tbs vinegar (I use apple cider vinegar)
2 garlic cloves, pressed or crushed
Whisk all ingredients together, and add water for desired consistency.
tomorrow: hot sauce glazed tempeh over lettuce, steamed kale, herbed millet, dried apricots, prunes, choco-choco chip-walnut cookie

[2] Baby sweetcorn, and sugarsnap peas.
[3] Hummus and chilli marinated olives
[4] Frys Braii sausage, Smoked Cheddar style scheese, crackers, soy sauce flavoured nori seaweed.

Not included in the photo: a banana I didn't eat yesterday. Yes, CB ... too big to fit in with the fork, especially as the dried apricots claim that space as their own.
Jambo, that eggplant zucchini salad looks soooo good! What are the spices you used? Just leeks?
VC, loving th sprout salad as well.

Ella - Yep, just leeks and oil w/ the squashes, salt and pepper on the eggplant. The red pepper sauce went over it, that's where all the flavor was.
tomorrow: black beans & sweet potato burrito w/ cilantro, grilled eggplant, sauteed zucchini, patty pan squash & leeks, taco sauce in the container, herbed millet, red pepper sauce, choco-choco chip-walnut cookie

Jo's bento for today (clockwise starting top left):
Alprop natural yog with mandarins and maple syrup;
green beans;
vinegared onion and cucumber salad;
potato salad;
dried mango and dried strawberries in with the fork and spoon.
Oh and a coconut sesame snap.
mmmm, that little pool of maple syrup looks mandarin-dippable!!
i love the look of the tortillas you use there jambox, mine look pasty white and a bit thicker.
Cedar, they were some sort of jalapeno tortillas my friend bought, and the burritos were cooked covered in foil so I think they were steamed quite a bit which helped.

JBR: your bento boxes always look so yummy; they must take ages to prepare. It's a pity you aren't closer or I'd offer to swap bento box packing with you.
the red pepper sauce sounds good, jambox!
I haven't found dried strawberries over here so far... maybe I'll try dry some myself in the oven?!
some recent bento:
Pavo, those lunches look amazing. And you eat so healthily, as well!
What is the dish on the far left in the second picture?
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” ~ Alcott
LOL it's actually only torn Turkish pita bread and hummus
pavotrouge, the sushi looks really yummy! what's in it? and did you use brown rice? (i've tried making it with brown rice before but it never turns out the right consistency )
This was the bento I took to work with me last night. Nothing special but was yummy!
A kiwi
A plum
Lemon jelly with fresh mango and more kiwi
Random mixed curry thing - kale, chic peas, garlic, onion, spinach, mashed brussell sprouts, green beans, wholegrain rice and tomato and basil marinated tofu in a veg stock and tandorri curry powder sauce!
