do you make all these cutlets, cake, sausages, casseroles etc jambox?? if you do you are superwoman indeed **bows down**. do you buy and eat pre-made things like sausages, cutlets etc?
I do make most of what you see in the lunches. I live alone and tend to make full recipes, so I eat off the same things for a couple days in a row and often freeze extras. The sausages were made last weekend for a brunch. The cutlet I made a double recipe a couple months ago and put extras in the freezer for such an occasion as today where I needed a bit of protein to round out a meal in a pinch. Casseroles I tend to make, eat a few servings, and freeze the rest for easy future meals. I did not, however, make the chocolate kahlua pie which is finally gone. A friend brought that to my brunch and then left half with me!
I do eat pre-made faux meats every once in a while, when I just don't feel like making them or don't have the time. But I much prefer to make things myself.
wow, you two are bentoing a lot (I just made up that verb).
I've been lacking inspiration lately, and am sooo happy that a parcel with some new bento goodies arrived today and can be picked up tomorrow morning.

Yeah, for me it's not so much inspiration as that I have to take a lunch everyday or I'll be having french fries and a dressing-less salad. It'd be fun to get decorative sometime though.
I ordered my bento box yesterday, couldn't resist the temptation any longer to have a 'proper' one rather than my ordinary tupperware. And will come in handy as I'll be spending long hours in the library for exam revision...

@emmap & applepie: you could use any household rubber band to hold it together, I guess I'd provide you with some as I've got loads of bento accessories I never use but I keep on loosing the belts T_T
Astrid, I love the Urara sets I've got the red variety, 'twas my very first bento box and still is my favourite one. Lovely for getting started!
I've had it for two years and it's still in a very good shape (some of the cheaper boxes I bought after that aren't any more ).
it's okay, thanks pavotrouge, me and applepie have conferred and we're gonna make our own!
i'm also buying some snazzy orangey ones from ebay (for when my crafty snipping and sewing goes hideously wrong)

Your first bento box looks great! Isn't it a good feeling when the box is all ready to go - they look so perfect it's almost a shame to start eating the contents!
I've now ordered the blue Urara set and some additional containers. So looking forward to start using it! It will be a couple of weeks till it arrives though...
Tomorrow: Mediterranean four bean salad (on its last legs), toasted mini wheat bagel, jamaican brown rice & peas, baby spinach w/ baby carrots on top, half a pear, more baby carrots on the fork
(Condiments on the side to share with my coworker, who I am also taking lunch for. More details on the burger in the photo thread after I get her approval.)
ta-dah!
my first bento box..even though i whinged to you VC, it does fit a fair bit of stuff in - guacamole + raw basil hummous + a few bits of cucumber
top layer (hiding) is pak choi + rocket..a few grapes, olives and baby plum tomatoes..brazil nut pieces, skinny brocolli, diddy carrots and slightly interestingly shaped cucumber. i sneaked in a square of chocolate into the lid. not much else will fit in there really
did you get yours yet applepie?

Mmh, looks yummy your first Bento!
I got mine yesterday but was studying at home all day. I'll make my first one tomorrow for the best library lunch ever

emmap your first bento box ROCKS! Did you find it filling? I think the size is deceptive - mine seems tiny, but when I've eaten everything in it I'm well stuffed! Yours is a different type to mine though, so not sure how they compare.
Oh I soooo have to get me one of these lunchbox things... Any idea where to get them in Scotland? Is there a decent UK website I can order from? Thanks
Here we go, my first Bento!!!
Not very imaginative, can't compete with your masterpieces, but I was still majorly stuffed from last night's birthday dinner and didn't want a substantial lunch.
Salad in the bottom, and a wholewheat sandwich with yeast extract and tomato in the top, plus a box of raisins. Obviously, the nana didn't go in the box
I can't wait to try out all the other things I have in mind - never thought that library lunches could be so exciting!
