Seeing as it's pancake day next week I thought I'd make some pancakes. The last time I attempted them they didn't turn out too well so I was wondering if anyone had a recipe for pancakes that tastes good?

I made some a while back using a traditional recipe but substituting half a mashed banana per egg. It worked really well but they tasted of banana strangely enough so I wasn't too fond of them.
how's this: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=5235.0 ?
oh and this one: http://www.eighth-day.co.uk/recipes/ppancake.htm
(one i've actually tried, and liked)
all of the pancakes that I have tried making using whole grain flour take FOREVER to cook. I mean literally so long that I give up when they still have raw middles. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

You need the oil to be really really hot before you put the mix in, when you put it in it should start solidifying immediately.
I don't really have anything significant to say but I think that pancakes are the bet food in the world hands down.....especially with tempeh sausage.....damn I'm hungry again
mmmmmmm...cupcakes
Thanks Risker.

Haniska not too much batter in the pan either......and make sure your batter is runny or you willend up with thick gloop that never cooks!
allow me to be the first to specify that these are for UK, not american style pancakes (otherwise known as crepes). Don't use these recipes if you intend to make american pancakes.
If you have Vegan with a Vengeance, there are some great pancake recipes in there.
Check out the Toronto Vegetarian Podcast at veg.ca/tvp !

ice cream's always a good one. spoon some into the middle of the warm (not hot) pancake, roll up and drizzle with melted chocolate or a fruit sauce. fruit compotes and good just on their own too. nice big chunks of fruit or whole berries stewed 'til tender with a bit of sugar.
ooh! ooh! Appley-cinnamony! Ooh! ooh!
...my dog loves Pancake Day, cos the first one always ends up rubbish (why is that?) and she gets the first pancake.
golden syrup isn't a no no jc, but i don't want vibrating teeth

I used to make a lot of pancakes and the best were from using quinoah (?) flour and ricemilk..........they had all the little pinholes in like the ones in the shop. I will look up the recipe again before Tuesday.
This forum really makes me hungry all the time for some reason...........
Pancakes with syrup and strawberries............mmmn!

Dumb American #2 here. I'm still confused. Please could someone translate or show pics for these and define syrups used:
A) are called pancakes, aka flapjacks or griddlecakes:
Syrup traditionally would be maple syrup, artificially flavored maple "table" syrup (usually high fructose corn syrup with other chemicals), a common brand is Mrs. Butterworth's. Blueberries or bananas in batter optional. Side fruit optional.
B) crepes, much thinner but similar batter, usually (or may not) be rolled into cylinder, similar syrups but almost always stuffed, rarely eaten plain, batter is "painted" onto cooking surface and peeled off:
TIA.
So American pancakes are big and puffy and American crepes are thin, like you can roll them up?
That's the way it is in Australia too.
Happy Pancake day especially to Bryzee your sounding so excited about pancakes! Im looking foward to some tonight

Thanks Risker. To make "A" I used this recently:

Using the exactly stated soy milk amount they came out a tad too thick, even for for my preference, but overall I think they were good. Next time I'll add some more soy milk. The author is from the US so I assume she means "A", but if watered ("soy milked") down even more, I don't see why it wouldn't work well for "B". I liked the cinnamon taste, but I'd omit that for "B" application, personally.
So is there a food called a "crepe" in England and if so may I see a pic?
TIA.
I'm terrible at making pancakes.
I think the word "crepe" and "pancake" may be more or less interchangeable in the UK although there are "crêpes suzette" which IIRC are extra thin crepes with some kind of orange sauce? You don't hear the word crepe all that much outside restaurants, though.
Great recipe:
Quinoa Pancakes:
2 cups quinoa flour, 4 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2cups + 1 tblsp. water, 2 tblsp. veg/sunflower oil
Make small 10 cm + pancakes
You've probably all had your pancakes by now. I regularly make these and they turn out fine.
1 cup flour ( I use spelt but any will do)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup soy (or other) milk
mix and cook. yum!
You can add bananas or berries or whatever the hell you like.
I like them with grated apple, some flax seeds and a dash of cinnamin added to the mix.
oh i love pancakes, i eat them so often! My favourite are always chocolate pancakes with chocolate chips prinkled int he midde (so that they melt) and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!I'm so excited to make some tonight! XD
I want a pancake!!! they have them at work in the canteen but not vegan will have to wait til tonight!
Yeah, eh?
Haha.
I just had my 10-grain fluffy pancakes with warm banana slices, maple syrup, walnuts and veggie sausages! Yummmm.
(I used 1.5 tbsps of applesauce in the batter in place of egg)
A French Canadian made me some crepes with blueberries once...Remembered as one of the best breakfasts of my life.
oh my god this was soooo good. we had one first with swedish glace vanilla in the middle, rolled up and poured hot chocolate sauce over it. then had 4 with oranges and lemons (oh, and sugar) on top.
I so want to make another batch...
I'd run out of plain flour so had to use gram flour, it didn't work very well, I don't recommend it.
ohhh im going to make my pancakes now!!
yay
I'm so pleased I adapted one of Cherry's recipes - 5 heaped dessert spoons of self raising flour, a pinch of salt, 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence and half a pint of soya milk whisked together - I used my non-stick wok and didn't even need to add any fat!
They were excellent with the usual sugar and lemon and my non-vegan kids all voted them better than the eggy batch I did afterwards! Yippee
Six months in 'n' going well! ...
I made the banana and pecan ones from Vegan With A Vengeance. They were awful - only made edible by smothering them with maple syrup. Next time, it's back to the straightforward flour & soya milk recipe.
The caramel Swedish Glace I served them with was lurvely though.
Here's another one to confuse you all: who knows what a pikelet is?
It's another name for a crumpet isn't it?
A small crumpety pancake?
