Is there a too fat to tell button???

    I am at 25.7
What's funny is that at age 24 I am in normal range...but it's at the high end cause I accidentally put 25 in and I was classified as overweight.

Oh and since I did this in college I have lost 8 points in the BMI! That is awsome and makes me feel better about being borderline overweight.

I don't feel so bad now...this woman on TV's BMI is 43! She's on some show about weightloss and is trying to lose weight though diet and exercise only...without doing the whole gastric bypass...
Guess what her diet tossed out? Dairy, eggs, and red meat! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That was awsome (although they have her eating chicken and fish and she is whining the whole time)

BMI = 22.7 in Winter, 22 in Summer.

I found I lost half a stone on becoming Vegetarian 17 years ago, and another half on becoming vegan 15 years ago. Which one more of the many benefits of our wonderful religion, sorry diet!

25.34, but I'm somewhere between endomorph and mesomorph build. The problem with body mass index, is that there are major difference in builds and it doesn't take that in to account in an online application. I have the ability, like a lot of men with my squat build, can be very healthy at 180 pounds or so, even though I'm only 5'7. Not because I would be okay with carrying forty pounds of fat arouund of course, but because I can gain muscle mass and lose fat relatively easily without any particular heart strain. I know at least one extreme ectomorph that can not gain much muscle mass and would have to gain a lot of fat even to be an 'ideal' weight for his height.

What's all this nonsense about tall men having eh, you know. It's definitely not related to hight.

They say I'm overweight. *sighs* Which I am not.

BMI is stupid. They don't take into consideration that I have heavy bone structure, that I'm quite curvacious, and that I recently lost 40 lbs. Also the fact that my doctor said I was in very good weight range.

I started the poll to show where vegans in general are with reagrds to their bmi. I guess the poll results would still be better than for non vegans in general, even if the bmi is stoopid.

The two links in the first post both state "Remember that weight is also related to build, and you should make allowances if you are stocky or of heavy build. Your BMI will vary slightly according to gender" by the way.

    Congratluations on losing 40lbs.

I think that was fun! I even got a kick out of the stones vs. pounds.

It brings up an interesting concept for me, though. I ranked in the "ideal", but I totally think I'm overweight, yet all my girlfriends tell me they "don't want to hear it " (because they think I'm "skinny") . I reckon there's the medical perspective, the ego perspective, and the social perspective of relativity (?)

I don't know about their BMIs but most of those cardinals we've seen on TV seem to have waistlines far in excess of 90cm, over which there's a greatly increased risk of heart attack.
(90cm for men, measured at navel level, and 80cm for women)

I've read that we should forget about bmi and concentrate instead on maintaining our waistline to be under a metre - easier to figure out and it suits me!

Sorry Eve, the waist measurement above which the risk of heart attack increases significantly is 80 cm for women and 90 cm for men, and that's measured at belly button level, which is UNFAIR !
Mine is 88cm and I've got my BMI down from 25 to 22.5 in the last 4 months which, I reckon, gives me bragging rights!

I don`t really believe in BMI, because it does not take into account your body composition i.e. fat/muscle ratio.

Athleths weigh more because muscle is heavier than fat and, according to BMI they may be classed as heavy while they are actually lean as a rake!

I had an aerobics instructor with similar height and weight than me but she looked soooo different, lean and athletic! Yet, she added that her body fat is 12% - which is too low, but body fat is what, IMO, we should go for. The same numbers as BMI apply (20-25 being ideal, 25-30 slightly overweight, etc) for women and a little less for men.

I voted for my "normal" BMI range of 21.9 even though at the moment i'm only 15.4 because i've been ill for months and lost lots of weight. I should slowly get back to normal now i'm better so that's why I voted for that.

i hear that! I have gained a lot of weight back though cause I really can't workout. I can't wait until everything in my body is back to normal. I am back in my size 11 jeans :-( and back up around 170 lbs. I can lift weights again as long as I don't get to strenuous...but no cardio.
And I think a good 30 lbs are in my boobs.

I am 175cm and 100kg... i want to loose weight, but it is not really the eating that is wrong, but more that I don't exercise... I must do more... more walking or get on the bike.

We must not have had enough Americans take the poll. Once more americans take the poll I'm sure it will change the results drastically from "ideal" being majority to "obese, very obese, etc." How sad...

I think she is concerned b/c your BMI is in the anorexic range....
As for the poll....what with the "lose some weight" suggestions in the overweight BMI.....it would be ok if it said "gain some weight" in the underweight category.
