Hi again everyone. I'm back from my trip. It's been a pretty good go for me lately. I went to a friends house for a couple weeks and now she's here for two more so I have a dieting partner which is cool. I weighed in yesterday and since May (when I started keeping track of my weight again) i've lost 7lbs. ^.^

Hey. I'm joining the weight loss party! I am 22, 5'5 and I think ~146lb. I would like to get back down to at least 120lb. I'm going to try to stick to a mainly raw foods regime and get back into exercise............. That's all I have to say ;-) goodnight! xoxo

I've been having tests as my weight has been yoyoing out of control both up and down and I am exhausted. My GP thinks I have hypothyroidism - I bloody hope not, I don't want to take pills for the rest of my life
I can understand why Fern Brittain had a gastric band - I'm sick of constantly dieting and not getting anywhere.

This is pretty embarrassing as it happens. I last posted on this thread back in April... then totally forgot all about it .

Since that posting I actually gained a couple of pounds taking me past the 15 stone mark

The good news, from my perspective at least, is that I am now down to 14 stone and I'm a lot fitter as well.

I think that my problem was/is refined carbohydrates as in it's easier to have vegan sausages ensconced in french bread rather than cook a proper meal.

I was also eating far too many sandwiches and crisps.

Apart from that I think that setting the alarm for 05.00 and going cycling or running has helped.

Just another 3 stone to go

Hi guys... I've neglected this thread far too long. Life has been yo-yo'ing...

Parties one week, Mental break downs the next, Apathy to follow. As such, I have not weighed. Really, I don't care too right now... I'm on the boarder of a real issue and i'm not doing it this month. I'm strongly considering seeing a psychitrist.. and for me to say that, Considering my through-and-through hatred for it. You can imagen what i've been dealing with...

I guess i'll update you on what i've been up too. I start dancing in September... I'll start one class under competition group and next year, If I am good enough, I'll be part of it. Hopefully I make it... I start GED classes tommorow. Orientation was Friday. I'm thinking of getting a personal trainer... While I was in Mississippi my friends worked out with me and we helped each other... I ended up gaining a good bit of arm muscle because of it but now i'm alone and could use some new method of help to continue my toneing. What do you think? Has anyone tried it?

I think it would be great. Sometimes we just need someone to spur us on and push us a bit.

I've put on 3.5 kilo's since my op 10 weeks ago. I'm sulking cause I can't feed my gym addiction and eating the wrong things in the wrong amounts, but tomorrows a new day and I intend to lose weight big time and revisit a healthy me

Treehugga, you can definitely do this!! How are you doing now?
Animosity, I totally understand the school thing... and then going out to parties doesn't help either.

UPDATE: I've managed to lose about 4 lbs, finding a bit more time for outdoor exercize, though my schedule only allows like two nights a week. I've been trying to find a gym so I can go more regularly. I'm not really allowed to exercize outside because of my severe asthma. And I've run of meds since I'm no longer covered under insurance for asthma meds (they're like $120 each). So lets hope I can get some asthma meds and a gym and continue losing weight!! I can't wait to look toned. I've set my goal (certain pants size not really weight) for august 26th. That gives me about a month.

Ella i have just seen your profile pic and you are very slim already, and look perfect in the jean size you are already. I can understand if you want to get toned as having muscle definition is always hot but i honestly dont think you need to lose any weigh, just my opinion

Thanks, Puffin. I do want to lose some weight, about 20 lbs. I weigh a lot more than I look. BUT more importantly, I'd like to be toned and fit into my a certain size.

Annnnnd, I managed to get an asthma med from the local pharmacist since I picked up my last one there and my specialist is three hours away. That was really great of them!! I'm sure that'll help my workouts quite a bit.

I'm doing ok. trying to cut down on bread - my downfall really! It's more portion sizes with me than what I eat, Usually exercise helps but I cant do that until my body heals & I've now been in pain for 10 weeks, so I'm losing patients but keen to lose weight instead!

    Great news about the meds.
I weigh a lot to for someone 5foot 3 but i am a size 10 so i have tried to stop worrying about how much i weigh now. I feel a lot bigger than i am though so i can understand what you are saying, just look after yourself as you look just fine.

I'd really like to join too! I was doing so well a few months ago and then I got on the treat/no exercise wagon. I belong to a yoga studio and am going to try to get back to 6 days a week and eating more healthy foods again. Over all I'd like to lose 20 pounds.

Well... The school thing isn't a deal anymore, Because i'm outtie. I take the test at the end of the month. I'm at a passing level and I wasn't going to stick around and do practice tests every day.

I have to get an ID made Monday so I can go get the fee payed, Then after the test I have to go get my learners license... My Grandfather lost his job so I have to make my own money in order to go out. Hopefully the forced social interactions with co-workers will help me in the long run... I need to meet more people, I can't take this hanging out with the same faces over and over again.

The parties are what keep me going... It's when I cannot attend that I fall. Being alone with my thoughts is bad for me.

Sounds like you've got a lot going on. Hope everything goes smoothly. Hopefully you'll find some more positive interaction rather than just parties!

I am very pleased. I've been jogging everyday recently (5 1/2 mile average) but today I decided to challenge myself, I set out with a goal of 6 miles, After my MP3 player had to be charged since I forgot to do it last night... I ended up reaching for 7 1/2 since it would be in two sets. However, I ended up doing 9.

What's great is that I am offcially back to the way I was when I was losing weight steady, During recovery. I'm eating more now but because of the metobolism working again, It should even out to be about the same. I can also finish my work-outs without passing out after, Which is GREAT. I think i'm going to just keep up with the 'no weigh no measure' thing, Go with the calorie counting and exercise, It wouldn't make sense not to lose weight that way. I'll just go by the way clothes fit for now.

That's so awesome, Ani!! That's a lot of running!!!

Recovery? Losing weight in recovery? Sure that's healthy? The no weigh, no measure thing sounds great, though. Glad your metabolism is kicking back in.

Oh, Let me clear that up. When I was recovering, I had gotton back to almost eating the amount I am now and cutting my exercising down to this level but my metobolism was so bad that I couldn't eat the amount I can lose with now without gaining. So I assume, Since my metobolism is working okay again, The higher amount of calories is leveled off by that and i'll be doing the way I did then (I was losing about 2.5lbs a week)

I'm super happy. Despite being bloated from the curse of the femmes, ALL of my "skinny" clothes fit me again. Meaning the size I gained during my recovery has been lost once more.

I hope for them to fit nice and comfy again by the time I go to my friends' house for November break. That would just make me SO confident. I'm always surrounded by super pretty girls which takes a toll on my self esteem and makes me super shy but if I could wear my good outfits and look and feel nice in them, I might be able to get over that. My famliy stoped buying nice things for me when I stoped "dieting" (they supported my ED...) I would love to be able to get new clothes and get them off my case about my size. They would just get rid of SO much stress.

I have trouble with bread too! Of all the things I've stopped eating, bread is the hardest - maybe because I don't have any huge ethical belief pushing me on ... maybe I can start complaining to myself about how unethically I treat me =D

    I hope you're feeling better =(

Bread is a problem isn't it? When I was away on holiday the week before last I had a couple of ciabatta incidents.

When I weighed myself after I got back I was pleasantly surprised to find that I hadn't put on any weight. Trying to get back on the straight and narrow now.

I have a fairly low average calorie intake right now, Just enough to keep my body working properly. I guess it'll just be one of those slow diets that take several months before you notice anything. I suppose that's okay. As long as it goes away one day.
It's so hard when you're recovering from an ED and trying to get back on track, but you sound so motivated and you're doing great! Just be sure you're getting enough calories, especially if you're exercising, otherwise your body thinks it's starving and hangs on to those cals for dear life.. But you probably know that anyway.. Good luck with everything

I'm getting really discouraged and need some support!
I gained like 10 pounds on vacation. I've been back for two week and have been eating very healthy, running 6 miles every other day, going on long backpacking trips on the weekend, and going to the climbing wall twice a week for "strength training". NOTHING! I'll lose two pounds and be all happy and then the next day it's back!
Ok, I think I really just needed to vent.

Hi DaShiel, What seems to be the problem? I've been a trainer for 22 years (unofficially) and 10 officially. I can probably help you. I'm also a vegan, work out a lot, strength train etc. I'm not soliciting, promise.

    Do you lift weights?
HOw much cardio do you do, and when you do it, would you say it's hard, moderate or easy?
How many calories per day do you eat, roughly.
    Booze/sugar intake?
Do you have any injuries, disabilities that get in your way or need to work around?

    Hey, thanks for the help.
Like I said, I run 6 miles about every other day for cardio and do the climbing wall for strength. I eat maybe 1500 cals? I stopped drinking and don't eat any refined sugar. No injuries! What do you think?

Well for positives, I measured myself this morning which goes to show that I had a bit of confidence. The good news, I've lost all the inchs I gained back during recovery. The bad news, Now i'm going to feel the need to keep track... Which I guess if done right might be a good thing, I'm a little scared of what will happen if it isn't such a good thing...

More of the bad is that this evening while getting ready for my jog, I couldn't find my new shirt and when my Grandmother told me that it might be in Moms dresser and I found it there. I made the comment "I don't know who thought it was Moms but seriously, There's no way she could wear an X-small and it's got the sticker with the size right on it... Does it look like it would fit her? *clearly pointing at the bust line* (I was commenting on the fact that she's almost a D cup, Not her weight.) my Grandmother replys with "Well, will an X-small even fit you? (in a snarky voice) looking at my waist with a look of disgust on her face the whole time..." She's been constently calling me fat since I got over my ed, It really hurts me that she would rather me be depressed and killing myself as long as i'm thin, than be healthy and lose the weight slower.

I feel like everyone is against me. I just want to leave and never come back.

It wouldn't have hurt me so bad if I hadn't still be obsessing over the comment my Aunt made about my feet being really big & wide... (I have to wear narrow shoes by the way) she wears a 5 and she thinks anyone that wears a bigger size has "fat" feet. I wear a 7 because my feet are kind of long. and she has to try all my shoes on when she visits and then tell me how cute they are but she could never wear them because her tiny little feet get swallowed by them, and it's a real shame that cute shoes like that don't come in small sizes for women who don't have "fat" feet.

maybe someday she'll grow up (sorry I know it's your aunt.)

I wear an 8 1/2- 9 shoe, btw. and my feet are really narrow. It's a nightmare, but anyway. she's fulluvit

YAY! I've lost another 3 lbs. I was kind of shocked by it, tbh. I think it's been the lack of time, school and work are getting hectic. I've been eating snacks spread out throughout the day instead of proper meals. I think it helps me a lot to take the focus off food and the stress around food prep. Muuuuchhhh easier. Lets see if I can keep it off over the weekend.... tailgating is not good for my weight!

that's good, ella, if i lived alone i would eat that way, maybe not even cook, just graze on crackers and fruit and salad and bread.........i have to make 3 meals a day for the others though and we all like to eat together.

anyway, good that you lost another 3lbs, my weight is going up again even though i have lost another clothes size

I did some measureing a while back and found that I have actually lost a couple inchs here and there. Waist, Lower abdomin and arms. I haven't been eating regularly lately unforunately... I've been having breakfast at lunch time (when I awake... heh) lunch at dinner time and dinner in the middle of night. No big deal, though. Still plenty of exercise. I met some amazing new friends today and one of them took my pic... usually the thought of someone looking at my picture just freaks me out... but I must say I didn't think I looked "fat" in a picture for once! which was just amazing too me.

Well I wasn't sure where to post this so here it is. I have NEVER been in the situation in my life where I had to lose weight. I could always eat whatever I wanted and I never really exercised. I have gradually been gaining weight for a long time. I just seem to notice when I realize the number on the scale is 10 pounds more than what it used to be. I am just under 5'7" and I always weighed 116 (which was prob. underweight), then for years it was 126, I moved into the 130's, then the 140's, and I cannot believe this but I am now in the 150's. I've been in the 150's for awhile and am creeping very close to 160. I am a bit freaked out by this. I'm sure people who read my posts in the "what did you eat today" thread won't be surprised. I love food and I guess I eat a lot of it and I think my metabolism has just quit on me.

I have gained weight in my breasts, abdomen, stomach, hips, butt, and thighs. A year or two ago I finally started buying jeans, underwear, and bras in a size up. But if I'm honest I have to admit that even those are tight now.

I know I should cut back on eating and start exercising. Neither of those options appeals to me.

I want to lose about 5kg (10/11lbs), and I feel exactly the same as you do veganwitch. I don't think I eat to excess, but I eat badly and don't drink nearly enough water. I've tried almost every sport under the sun at one time or another in my life but none of them has really grabbed me. And at the moment just the thought of exercising makes me tired. Help!

Fiamma, maybe we can help motivate each other. I want to lose about twice as much as you but anything will be an improvement over what I am now.

Here are some things I need to change or have tried:

*I have a jump rope and a stationary bike so I am thinking I should at least try those.
*I like to think I drink a lot of water but I know I don't drink as much as I should.
*I think I have actually started to watch my portion size better (have been doing this for a while).
*Since I've been using a bento for lunch I eat more veggies/fruits/nuts and less bread.

What is realistic weight loss? A pound or two a week?

Well noone ever calls me that either. And when I look in the mirror I don't see a fat person but I don't see a thin person either (which is what I used to see). A couple of years ago a coworker asked me if I'd lost weight. It was the first and only time I'd been asked that. It made me think that apparently I looked like I needed to lose weight. I always used to get comments that I was so thin and how did I stay so skinny and if I was skinny b/c I was a vegan. I don't get those comments anymore.
*sigh* What got me really going on this was I have a wedding to go to on Sunday and nothing fits me really.

    veganwitch.

I think a pound or two a week is realistic, certainly no more. I have a jump rope too!!! And some "freestyle jump roping" workout DVDs - they're fun but tiring!!! Burns LOTS of cals...

Just have to get back into it I suppose. I also have to eat more veggies/less carbs and drink more water.

I know I keep on about the trampoline but . . . I really hate to do any exercise but the trampoline is bearable and sometimes it is almost fun!

I just created an account on www.fitday.com
It lets you keep a food journal, activity log, and lets you keep track of your weight loss progress.

My goal is to lose 27 lbs by 1/28. Ah...I have such lofty goals.

Marrers, is this one of those big outdoor ones or a small indoor one? How long do you have to jump on it for to burn adequate calories? We have a cathedral ceiling so maybe an indoor one would be good...lol.

I have a big outdoor one but now the weather is getting poor I'm going to get a 40 inch indoor one - I don't think you have to jump too high on those so you should be okay. No idea about calories though. I try to do 10 minutes each day plus about 20 minutes Calanetics.

Thanks for the info Marrers. 10 minutes a day doesn't sound too bad. Maybe I'll look into one of the indoor ones.

I want to get one of those little trampolines too!Apparently it burns on average about 238 calories an hour. However I dont know how anybody can determine that, surely it depends what you do on it and how vigorously?
know how you feel veganwitch, although my weight has gone up and down over the years, it crept up on me at one point, from being thin to suddenly realising I was alot bigger than I thought i was!

I have managed to get slimmer recently.
Some things that have helped me...

I am a nibbler, which means I eat all the time! This could be a downfall but I have managed to control it by curing urges to snack with really low calorie foods like salad with low cal dressing and soups made with tomato juice..both kinds of food tht no matter how much you eat, they will not fill you out just up!

If exercise seems daunting, remember to do it at your own pace, as little or as much as you like. Workout DVDs are good..and as you notice your body change you will begin to like rather than loathe them!
I like to search through youtube for workout routines too

I am bad for drinking enough water so I buy the fizzy flavoured kind.
Anoter thing I like to do is just keep it in the back of my mind, what I want to look like, realistically, It stops me reaching for the bread (my downfall again!) or biscuits.

    good luck veganwitch and fiamma.

i'm in an annoying situation in that i'm on medication which has made me gain weight, and i know that no matter how hard i try to watch what i eat or exercise i won't lose the weight until i come off the meds, and i don't know when i'll be able to do that. i know that's the case because it happened to me when i was taking it before (about 6 years ago), and i have a friend who's on a raw diet and exercises a lot but is still overweight because she's on the same type of medication.

i'm 5'7" too and was a steady 126lb which i was ok with and could eat pretty much what i wanted without gaining weight. but since i went back onto medication i've slowly been putting on the pounds and last time i weighed myself i'd gone up to 140lb. none of my jeans fit me any more and i just feel like i'm carrying a lot of extra weight. people used to say i looked skinny too but not any more. last time i was on meds i got up to 156lb which was scary. i went on a really restrictive diet and eventually shifted 10lb, but i just couldn't get rid of the rest until i stopped the drugs.

i hate being hungry, don't find fruit and veg filling at all and there isn't much exercise i enjoy. i know you mentioned the trampoline Marrers but i don't have room for one (i have a very small house and practically no garden). i drink a lot of water but it doesn't help.

*sigh* i don't know if there's anything i can do about it, just having a bit of a moan really

aside from the drugs, which i know is a big difference the numbers of your weight gain mirror mine exactly. spooky. i half wonder (or hope) that my problem is b/c of a thyroid conditon. but of course i don't want to go to the dr. and actually find out if that is the case.
