    Default I'm dissapointed with Delia

Well I'm dissapointed that Delia does not think more environmentally in her cooking program -each meal involves meat (or, if not, its got cheese in it) I haven;t heard her say anything about imported ingredients etc. The thing is - she is a religious spiritual person - a dailey mass attender appareently. Well if she can't think a bit about others, about the environment etc - then what hope is there for the world - well not much in fact!

The women makes bread using mashed up frozen mccain rosti, potato wedges using frozen mccain potato wedges with extra oil and likened vegetarians to hitler in one of her books.

I think you may be expecting a bit too much with the environmental angle

Which one? I have a veggie friend who loathes Delia and I'm sure she'd laugh at that!

She's been lambasted for the amount of salt in her recipes too: some of her new recipes from her How to Cheat at Cooking series contain more than twice the recommended daily intake of salt in a single dish.

In one of the recent episodes she put pre-chopped frozen onion in a blender - What's the point? It was going to be blended anyway!

my mum has this book. it made me very cross. how can she dare call herself a cook/chef???? it's terrible, and furthers the culture of laziness towards what we put into our bodies....

Lol mjnewbould and cedarblue I think not!

I agree Amanda. It seems like the added fat/salt/chemicals are completely overlooked at the expense of convenience that isn't really all that convenient. I'd imagine that in the time you'd spend finding all the things in jars and frozen products in M&S that you need and blended your frozen chopped onion etc, you could have knocked up a healthy 3 course dinner from scratch.

i know...she may as well write a book on how to cook a ready-meal. that's essentially what her new book is. with all the brand-name dropping she's doing, i can only assume she's being paid a monstrous amount of money to do this...it's galling to even attempt to call it a cookery book.

it's one thing to make those quick substitutions yourself when you're ina hurry (i will admit to buying pre-chopped ginger on occasion as it keeps longer...though not nearly so good!), but to write a WHOLE BOOK on that basis???

but i expect that loads of dumb women who fool themselves into thinking they have such hectic lives will buy this and use it as an excuse to eat shitty faux-foods.

Doncha love that one? Hitler was a Catholic† too, but you don't see anybody trying to demonize Catholics for that reason, do you? I hear he also breathed oxygen and brushed his teeth. *gasp!*

I cannt comprehend being spiritualist and eating meat. Why would one want to put so much death, pain and unhealthy substances in one's body.surely it goes against all principles of spiritualism.Ugh folk get on my tits.lol.

Delia is ridiculous, her latest book is absurd. Even when I was an omni I'd never dream of buying minced meat in a can or pre-chopped veg. It takes 2 minutes to chop an onion and the expense and hassle of buying all those ingredients for one meal.

When I was a vegetarian I used a few recipes from her vegetarian book and they were all mightily laden with dull fat dairy, fatty cheeses, butter, eggs - if you ate that stuff daily you would die of a stroke

And the list of ingredients!!!! about 20 items for each recipe at least - it cost a fortune.

I'd be much more interested in a recipe book that used no more than 5-6 cheap, basic ingredients per meal and still produced a delicious meal - that's what I call talented cooking!

It would be nice to think that maybe she was trying to tempt people away from takeaways and into their own kitchens as a step towards proper cooking... but I guess it's just another angle to sell another book. The poor dear probably needs a few more million in the bank.

Hitler was the type of vegetarian whose favourite dish was baby pigeon:

    http://tafkac.org/celebrities/hitler_vegetarian.html

Presumably Delia would use frozen Aunt Bessie's baby pigeons for that recipe.
