    Neatloaf
It was the first I've made with TVP and it turned out great
    Neatloaf:
2 cups organic veggie broth (I made my own by throwing an organic carrot, half an organic onion, 2 organic celery ribs, 1 t basil, 1 T parsley, 1 t garlic powder and a splash of organic tamari in a blender with 2 cups water and then boiled on med heat for 10 minutes)
    1/2 cup organic ketchup
    2 T organic tamari
    2 cups organic TVP
    1 cup organic rolled oats
    1/4 cup organic ground flax
    1 T nutritional yeast
1/2 cup organic bbq sauce (I made my own with 1 small can organic tomato paste, 1 cup water, 1 t onion powder, 1 t garlic powder, 1 T parsley, 1 t basil, 1 T dry mustard, 1 T black strap molasses and a pinch of cumin- mix well and let simmer 10 minutes on low heat)
    Preheat oven to 375
In a bowl combine broth, tamari, ketchup and tvp- let stand about 10 minutes to let the tvp hydrate
add remaining ingredients except bbq sauce
bake about 30 minutes, layer bbq sauce on top and let cook another 10-15 minutes
**this recipe is very versatile- you can add onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, gravy on top instead of bbq sauce or whatever you like- I like mine quite plain and love extra bbq sauce
I bought most of the ingredients in bulk at a local organic co-op and I figured it cost about $1.50-$2.00 to make this. A local vegan restaurant sells tvp neatloaf for about $8 a pound so I'm quite pleased with the price and very pleased with the taste.

@ellaminnowpea: tarte flambee would be the translation, in germany itīs called "flammkuchen". itīs a kind of pizza but without tomato sauce and cheeze. it did take a picture, iīll try to upload a pic. but iīve had problems with uploading the last days, it always told me of a server error.

sorry, still no pic... but a better explanation so that you can image better: itīs made of a flat pizza base which you top usually with yofu, onions and smoked tofu if you wish and should taste a bit sour. so i made it with the new soya spread of provamel which actually tastes a bit sour and added some soy milk. it is meant to be that the "topping" is a bit runny and you usually bake it on the highest for about 10 mins. but i prefer it a bit mushy, so i do not bake it that high.

Yesterday I made the best gluten free pancakes, ever. I have to admit they came from a mix. I picked up some gluten free bread mix from the supermarket. I only grabbed it because they were out of Orgran's mix and I had never bought this one before. My bf noticed on the side that it can be used for pancakes. I had my doubts as mixes are usually awful but these were perfect. Even my bf who is omni thought they tasted like regular pancakes. I want to eat them every day

I think it's safe to assume she uses the plain one!

Oh, and it's not pizza... It's "flammkuchen".

yes, it is "flammkuchen", "tarte flambee" was the translation for it. and of course iīd take plain yofu. but trust me, with the soya spread it is more delicious. isnīt there some available now here in britain?

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES from "How It All Vegan".

    Tips:
    • If you're using Earth Balance margarine or another salted margarine, omit the salt that is called for
    • This recipe actually makes a lot of cookies, 15-25 for normal size cookies (maybe 10 for jumbo cookies)
    • Don't add so much vanilla extract, IMO.
    • Bake for 8-9 minutes only or before it gets too golden if you want them chewy
    Peace, love, and happiness.

Good advice, Tigerlily. The first time I made them I didn't do this and they turned out all salty and weird!

    Burger and homemade fries.
What happened was I was having a horrible day at work, and I always go to food when I'm in a bad or odd mood. I drove by a Burger King and remembered how much I LOVED Burger King. I went home and made a burger the way I remember theirs tasted and then cot up some taters into fries.

(How did you make that, from scratch or a ready made burger?)

I just ate 2 big slices of apple cake and 2 cups of green tea, good breakfast. I thought the cake would taste like malt loaf but it has much more flavour, is malt loaf vegan does anyone know?

most brands aren't. Soreen, the most popular brand, has whey powder in it. Sainsburys do an organic malt loaf that's vegan but it's not quite as rich and sticky as i remember Soreen being, it's a bit more bready. still quite nice though.

Ooh thanks Gorilla, good old Sainsbury's. I don't even particularly like malt loaf but it's the type of thing I sometimes fancy once in a while so that's good to know.

(I have never made a veggie burger from scratch either Sarah, yours still sounded nice though.)

It's such a shame about the malt loaves isn't it. I used to love those toasted with margarine (you should try the apple cake that way BC).
There used to be other flavours of Soreen malt loaves which were marked as vegan on the packet but I haven't seen those for years.

they sound nice, don't think i've ever seen them though. i don't know why they feel the need to put whey powder in it, they can't use much as if i remember it's quite far down on the ingredients list.

I popped into morrisons today, and stocked up on the gardein range.

We had the meatballs with wholewheat spaghetti, smothered in homemade tomato and herb sauce. Was lovely.

I reckon they would be good with rich gravy - mmmm vegan faggots.

Today I had some more of those cocoa dusted dark chocolate almonds. I got them from Whole Foods and they are delicious. They remind me of a cross b/w Hershey's milk chocolate w/ almonds bar and a dipped nut from a box of fine chocolates.

That is so weird, I had a back cramp yesterday (but not from laughing) when I got off the tube as I had been crossing my legs at a weird angle I think and maybe because it's cold?

I have to go to Morrisons to find these Gardein things!!!
