^Heston's 80's thing being the breville reminder? Sounds delicious, either way.

There's nowt wrong with that. We make 'mozzerella' & sundried tomato ones every now and then, as well as 'mozerella', 'ham' and caramelised onion chutney.

Been seeing those ads for the 5-layer burritos at Taco Bell and they looked so good for some reason?

So I remade it vegan style. It's so amazing-thank you Taco Bell.
In case anyone doesn't know what's in it, Taco Bell puts refried beans, regular cheese, sour cream, and their taco meat in a tortilla-but then there's a another tortilla over it and in between they squish nacho cheese inside.

Dunno if what I made tastes even close to what Taco Bell has but it's delicious. No pics-ate it too fast.
Either this wallpaper goes, or I do.

Okay, I didn't just eat this, but I'm going to eat this for supper. It's one of my new favorites, and it's super super simple! Fry a slice of tofu in some olive oil, both sides, until nice and golden and crispy. Then spread a generous amount of BBQ sauce (we bought the Kraft 'Chick'n Rib' kind - no worries, it's vegan!) on both sides. Put on a slice of whole wheat bread, then top with ingredients of your choice: I put salad greens and sprouts. I'm sure tomatoes would be good, too. Top with another slice of bread to complete your sandwich. Yummm...

Haha, that's awesome, Sarah! It's funny, people think that when we see delicious looking meat or dairy fare, we're going to be tempted to dig in, but my experience has always been that I'm turned off (by smells, for instance) or that it makes me crave a vegan version of that kind of food. Vegan tacos are awesome! Sometime will try to make a vegan burrito as well...

Indeed. I love fast food so I always go home and veganize it. But I like that dead meat smell. I used to pass by Burger King all the time and smell that sweet burger smell so I went home and did it myself, even warming up the pickles and bun first because that's how they do it. I haven't had a burger from them in about six years but I think it tasted exactly the same.

Edit: Also, vegan burritos are easy....?

burger king is more than likely liquid chemical smells, not dead meat.

We went to El Piano in York this afternoon, and oh my goodness it was so yummy!
    We had :-

    Which was...
    Berenjena Bangkok
    Kofta
    Pestolitos
    Papas a lo pobre
    Tortilla Espanola
    Sushi Frito
    Rice and Salsa

Then for dessert i had Carrot cake

My OH had Strawberry scheeze cake

It was all soooooo good. It is such a lovely place, the staff are really lovely, the place itself is quirky and rustic, and the food is absolutely yummy.

I think it's great that you're honest about that. I think vegans that admit they still like the smell of meat, or still like the idea, can be good role models to people who love meat and don't want to give it up. By being honest and explaining how it's not that hard a lifestyle to maintain, you might convince more people than, say, someone like me, who never really cared for meat enough to miss it when I went vegetarian. I don't get cravings for anything meat, dairy, etc. Ever. I crave soy versions sometimes, but that's it. Meat lovers might be able to relate to you more...

My partner still likes the idea, the taste he remembers, the smells, etc. of meat, dairy, etc. He's vegan because it's the right thing to do, plain and simple. Me, the moral repugnance just sort of translated itself into aesthetic (? for lack of a better word ?) repugnance: it no longer appeals, no longer smells good, etc. It's not food.

The only exception is the smell of fried foods coming from restaurants sometimes, if I'm really hungry. I'll think to myself, 'Oh, that chicken smells good', but then remember that it's more the spices and batter that I'm smelling. I wish they'd fry whole potatoes in that stuff, LOL. Not that I ever buy food from fast food places anyway, with the exception of road trips...

I just ate the most delicious cheezy tofu and potato scramble.

If you haven't tried potatoes in your tofu scramble, you must! Pre-cook slightly in the microwave or by boiling to speed up the cooking time when making the scramble.

I'm going to try that next time. Sounds delicious.

My mom used to make us what I believe is an Acadian dish (we've got some Acadian blood in us), called "hache aux oeufs", which is really simple, it's just scrambled potatoes, eggs, onion, fried in butter/marg. I think before I became vegetarian she was making it with some other kind of animal fat (back fat?). (Haha, anyone missing animal products yet? ) In any case, unappealing as it sounds to me now, I used to love it, so trying to make a vegan version of this could be fun.

I just made some homemade spring rolls using whatever ingredients I could find. I chopped up fresh romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumber, shallots, steamed brocolli and mushrooms fried in soy sauce. I then mixed in some green thai curry paste and fresh coriander and wrapped this concoction in rice paper and baked for 15 minutes. I served this with sweet chilli sauce, new potatos and steamed veg. Yum!

I made the "cheese" by mixing equal parts of soy cream cheese and nutritional yeast together and then adding some water to thin it out. I added it to almost the last stage of cooking. And for seasoning, I used some taco mix seasoning. Yummmm.
    Peace, love, and happiness.

Oooh, that reminds me, I have some Yoso blueberry soy yogourt left in the fridge.

I didn't hate dairy yogourt, but it wasn't a favorite. My initial reaction to soy yogourt was that it was a tad sour, it took a couple of bites to get used to. But I definitely also prefer it to what I remember dairy yogourt tasting like.

Has anyone ever tried grapes with orange juice? I've got some organic grapes which I picked and put in a bowl, then poured organic orange juice over top and let it sit covered in the fridge for a couple of hours. I don't know why, but the orange juice makes the grapes taste that much better Easy to put together, but definitely worth a try

What a neat idea. You could put other things like melon, apple slices, etc.; would make a simple yet delicious fruit salad.
