Thread: I want pie!

    Default I want pie!

I have been trying for ages now and can't find a nice savoury pie filling. I don't really like the pretend meat and my partner won't eat mushrooms. Is there any hope?

Spinach and tofu? Lentil and vegetable? Pumpkin?

Re pumpkin, I had a nice tart in Rootmaster that is described on their menu as "Roasted pumpkin tossed in a creamy sage sauce and served in an organic bus pastry with walnut puree". A bit beyond my culinary capabilities in terms of presentation, but maybe that combination of flavours wouldn't be too hard to achieve.

    Hello by the way!

    Hi! :-D

That pumpkin pie sounds divine! I think I'll try that one! I did try a spinach and tofu lasagna and it wasn't for me :-(

    Thanks!

Just buy some clive's pies or copy the ingredients to make your own.

    I'd suggest vegetable chilli

Hi sarinnity and welcome to the forum.

Googling brings up loads of vegan pies. The following shepherdess pie recipe looks interesting but you'd have to adjust the amounts as they're based on a pie for 4 people:

    Good luck

    Hiya

Clive's pies are lovely, would definitely recommend them!

Was trying to find a pastry thread but this is the nearest I could get. Anyway, the Guardian colour supplement today has several more-or-less vegan recipes of which this one for vegetable pasties is one:

Sounds a bit of a faff but potentially quite nice. There are a couple of others here I could imagine making or adapting - not the sardine or anchovy ones obvs:

The two doughs thing does sound a faff... Think I'd just combine the ingredients and make one dough. Thanks Harpy.

Yeah, although I suppose one could mix the doughs in a bread machine or food processor and then it probably wouldn't take too long.

I tend to think life's too short to make pastry, given that it's not that good for you and you can buy it ready-made, but the idea of using olive oil rather than hydrogenated mook or palm oil has a certain appeal.

Bread machine, of course! To think I was considering making it by hand like some poor non-bread machine owning person.
